The best hair care advice I’ve received is from my 103 year old great grandmother. She has had long type four hair her whole life and it wasn’t complicated caring for her hair when she grew up. Black people have tried to con people into buying all these different products that you don’t need.
We really have to address how us as Black women need to take ownership for the hate we have for our hair because until we fix it from each other (and again, I even speak personally for myself) things will not get better.
truly! nobody wants to admit our resentment, and i get it - we've spent so much time trying to uplift each other after immeasurable years of being torn down by others that admitting any type of self hatred feels like a setback to the whole community, but pretending it doesn't exist also won't make it go away.
@@sigh_yuri Exactly, it's like i tell people all the time that true love is the truth and by pretending we don't have this issue, we are not truly loving each other so that we can grow and be better.
I so appreciate your content. Been natural since 1990. Everything someone tells me they love my hair, I tell them I have only one piece of advice: do less. It's just hair.
ITS. JUST. HAIR. we can talk about social justice issues all day long and i'll agree with you till the cows come home, but when talking abt basic care, it's just hair.
The problem is a lot of the uplifting Black women do is all performative and not genuinely felt. You can’t fake self-acceptance. Your actions (or lack of action) will eventually reveal how you truly feel. Some of us spend way too much time worrying about trying to correct the next woman instead of using that same energy to correct ourselves.
the same community that was supposed to make us independent of relaxers is now pushing us BACK to them cuz their idea of haircare is too tedious and toxic
Saiuri, I deeply enjoy your natural hair content. All of your content is lovely. You helped me to love my natural hair (I’m growing it out). Thank you for being you.
My comment may be irrelevant to your argument. But I felt compelled to voice my opinion. I have been “natural” my entire life. Been watching TH-cam videos on how to style “natural” hair since 2010. And yet, I’ve NEVER considered myself a part of any “community”. I simply watch the videos, see if the tips or techniques work for my hair and keep it moving. I’ve never been that concerned with what another is doing with her hair. Of course I sometimes have my opinions, but I mostly keep them to myself. Whatever a woman chooses to do with her hair, that’s her business. I’ve always found it weird that Black women feel the need to have a “hair community” in the first place. For me, my hair is just a SMALL part of my identity, not my entire identity. It’s like Black women make their hair their ENTIRE identity.
@ It’s just not THAT serious enough to need a community for. At least not for me. Whether or not a Black woman chooses to wear her hair natural, relaxed or weaved up is not really my concern. Whatever methods another Black woman uses to care for her hair especially ain’t my concern. I literally just don’t care. I don’t see how or why that needs to ever be my concern.
advice from the curl specialists: wash at least one a week, cut out raw oils and butters, detangle with a good brush in the shower, add water to conditioner to make it foamy for water detangling, porosity doesn’t matter for basic hair care, etc. after they spent years slandering then for defying the natural hair community, insulting their hair and looks, etc
@@sigh_yuri woww the weekly washing is nasty work man, i remember the dirty hair grows crap was gospel. and the porosity stuff, the second everyone found out what that was it became another obsession sighhh..
I found out that our hair has lipids in it, so it’s not only porosity, there’s other factors as well. Scientists only know so much about our bodies. And I’m so sick of hearing porosity this and that, like that’s ALL there is to it.

@Grapetime welll???? What's the advice? Don't leave us hanging here!

@@sigh_yurilmao, great the topic has been reached…again. So you’d dare go against the sisterhood?
nothing but facts. people really idolize others while not knowing or caring about who they’re listening to.

Thanks for keeping it real! As a black women we should be lifting each other up instead of bringing each other down

Tell em girl. Everything you said was on point. I don't participate in the natural hair community because it can be so toxic and nasty
the same community that was supposed to make us independent of relaxers is now pushing us BACK to them cuz their idea of haircare is too tedious and toxic
yup...im letting my hair grow and when it does get to where i want, i wont give advice. not when length is the goal. i need our girls to dream bigger
please dream bigger!!! there's so much more to hair happiness than length, esp when you simplify your routine

It's a very flawed community unfortunately

Cause they are trying to wake black people up that is why they have a hair community.

Dang, I thought the natural hair community died back in 2021...
i honestly wish it had, it's nothing but a well of misinformation, disinformation, perpetuated anti-blackness, double standards, and toxicity.
I love your hair. 👸🏾💚
