This is an unpopular opinion but I genuinely do think Homelander loves Ryan and not just the idea of a ‘thing’ loving him unconditionally. Because when you narrow it down Ryan essentially IS him and a younger more innocent version that has a chance not to turn into the tragedy like Homelander himself. The scenes he shares with Ryan are some of the most human and scenes like this seriously demonstrate that Homelander DOES not want him to undergo the sudden culture shock of the outside world that he has to endure in fact he was willing to even compromise with Becca at this point until Stormfront manipulated him. I think raising Ryan would definitely make Homelander more human maybe even a better person but obviously he’s destroyed that right and being a parent and proper role model is something that needs to be earned and it’s just too much of a gamble letting the two getting aquatinted further give HL’s track record. Homelander doesn’t deserve that happy ending either, he needs justice for his crimes first.
