Personally I don’t think he was manipulated here. I don’t think he cared if Starlight died or not, but also knew how tough it would be to explain away her sudden disappearance (as it was with both Lamplighter and Translucent) and probably thought she would be easily disposed of later if she didn’t change her attitude like Maeve once did. In a way, he actually manipulated Maeve into thinking he was doing her a favor.
Now homelander is playing 4D chess with Edgar, is starting to lose his mind( like really lose it), and is constantly fucking with almost every member of the seven at this point. Season 3 homelander is amazing.

Something terrifying about Homelander is that he can literally hear everyone's heartbeat and blood pressure, meaning that anyone who fears him can't even hide it. He already knows.
That's really not helpful tho, that happens with literally everybody who knows him. Even if they're not afraid and even if they don't know how much of a psychopath he is they'll still have increased heart rate and blood pressure because they idolize him... Everyone who he interacts with will have a fast heart rate whether they're scared shitless or fangirling over meeting him... He wouldn't be able to tell if it's fear or excitement from that alone, he has to rely on facial queues and body language just like the rest of us.

They've pretty much confirmed they're not going that way, considering Black Noir got his ass beat by Maeve, and also he has been shown to be slightly injured before. If Diabolical is considered canon, Black Noir was sort of a mentor to Homelander back in the day which explains why they seem close.

The Boys had turned the 7 into the 3 in the space of a month. Translucent was dead, Deep was gone, Starlight flipped & A-Train decommissioned. Actually closer to the 2, since Maeve backed Starlight. Realistically, they were doing much more damage than we thought.

I think he's simply made too many enemies in the show:Maeve hates him,the boys and Starlight Hate him (and without dropping spoilers the boys are more of a threat now), A-train and the Deep hate him because he treats them like Dirt,even Edgar and his lackeys hate him at this point because he's more of a liability and a risk than an asset. If all of these enemies put aside their own differences and join forces not even Homelander would win against them.

I think he's simply made too many enemies in the show:Maeve hates him,the boys and Starlight Hate him (and without dropping spoilers the boys are more of a threat now), A-train and the Deep hate him because he treats them like Dirt,even Edgar and his lackeys hate him at this point because he's more of a liability and a risk than an asset. If all of these enemies put aside their own differences and join forces not even Homelander would win against them.

Frankly its ludicrous that this psychopathic version of Homelander wouldn't just kill Starlight or kill Butcher the many times he had the chance to. At least in the comics, it turned out that Homelander wasn't actually the one doing most of the really terrible stuff, and that it was his identical twin who was framing him for it. This helps make sense of why Homelander wouldn't just outright kill Butcher.
