#2 Concrete Slab Roof Construction Steps - How to Setup Decking Formwork - House Building In Jamaica

- This is the second of a two part video in the "Building Your Own Home In Jamaica Series" in which I will be guiding prospective home owners how the formwork for Concrete Slab Roof Construction is setup.
Flat Roof Decking
The backdrop to this video is the Cashew Grove Housing Project in Irwin St. James, Montego Bay. The scheme is partly being developed by the National Housing Trust (NHT) and private individuals.
There are huge savings in doing it yourself. Building your own home with the requisite guidance.
The cost to build a house in Jamaica is between $90 USD (low end finishes) and $130 USD (high end finishes) per square foot. ( material and labor included)
A average 2-bedroom house in Jamaica, 900 square feet, would cost approximately:
$81,000 USD or 12.15 million JMD for low end finishes, and
$117,000 USD or 17.55 million JMD for high end finishes
The average cost though is $100 USD per square foot or 90,000 USD or 13.59 million JMD.
Here is Breakdown of construction costs for a two-storey 2 bedroom house:

c. Floors and finishes 15.2%
d. Roof and roof finishes 7.0%
e. Staircase and balustrading 3.4%

Certified Copy of Deed of Gift / Conveyance *
Certificate of Tax Payment
Accompanied by a letter from a Lawyer or Justice of the Peace *
If you are not the owner of the land, a Letter of Authorization from the owner, stamped and signed by a Justice of the Peace or a Notary Public, should be presented.
Other documents may be required to conduct a complete review of the application, to be requested where necessary.

what you Said, the bottom layer is 6 in. and the top layer 12 in., anyway I found your video interesting, it provides a lot of help for diys
Not a bad video. However, since it appears that you are not yet into adding illustration during your video editing, I suggest you at least use a piece of 1/2 inch water pipe or electrical conduit to indicate what or where you are referring to. Take for example: viewers cannot determine where on the building was the front or the back. I wish you well and will be looking for to see more of your contents. Blessings bro.

The electrical and plumbing are specialist fields. You would need persons in those areas to provide that information.
So what if you want to make changes in the electrical an plumbing for upstairs how would you go about that..
The Electrician and the Plumber would able to make the necessary adjustments if the need arise. I hope understand your question and is responding appropriately.

How does the cost of premix concrete compare to buying your own aggregates and mixing by hand for the decking?
Mixing by hand cost far less. However, the big draw back is finding the persons who are will and able to do the work.

Made a foundation but contractors put the post footings on top of the foundation not set the steel rod footings on the bottom.of foundation .what can I do now?
I am not clear on what you are saying but it is best to get someone that is competent to have a first hand look to give you a second opinion.
@@businesssolutionshomeideas1099 thats the thing noone cant check now cause its complete. unless broken again. when we cast the foundation they just put the posts column steel rod on top of the foundation cages not dig the post columns footings deeper like i see some videos have. if you understand what i mean. so basically now i have my foundation casted and i can see the post columns footing on top of the foundation concrete. it was not casted at the bottom.

Those are pieces of building blocks. They are placed there in order to raise the bars away from the surface of the concrete.

You did not give me the desired thickness but I calculated it at 6" thick. It will take 36 to 45 bags, depending on the PSI you want.

Length times width..example 30 feet by 20 feet = 600 square feet..that for the ply wood..concrete is cubic feet or cubic yards. Length×width × depth of of slab..

Yes. Especially for the overloads.

Between 1/2 and 1 ton - half inch steel and approx 1/3 of a ton 3/8 steel. It depends on the amount of columns that will go in.

It is dependent on how thick the slab will be. You want to ensure the steel is deep enough, that the concrete will not chip away or crack. 1.5 to 2" below the surface.

Nice work bro, do you know the standard rate per square feet to put up a decking including the steel work and carpentry? Got a 600 square foot roof I'll be doing shortly.

Please how many tons of steal and cubic meters of concrete is required for a decking of 400m2.
Approximately 5 tons. If you plan to build on top of the decking then you would need more for the overloads and preparation for the walls and columns.
84 cubic yards of concrete @ a depth of 6 inches

It will take approximately 3 to 3.5 tons considering that there might be plans to build on top.

30 lengths would do if there is no plans to build on top. One length of 1/2" steel is 29.5 feet. The formula would be (12 + 14 + 1.5 + 1.5) x 12 divided by 6 divide by 2 = 29 Lengths 1.5 represents the allowance for cantilever, the times 12 is conversion to inches, 6 is the distance between the steel bars and the last 2 is dividing the bars into 2.

1.2 tons is adequate. If you are planning to build on top you would have to include more for the overload.

What are the pieces of 1x3 boards for?
Please be more specific about the piece of board you are asking about.
Those 1×3 or whatever it is..is for height and level of the decking or depth..for example..a 6 inches thick slab.. is from the ply to the 1×3

Some of your information is not quite right sir... you need to go and research about the use of steel to combat against tension and compression of concrete. Please leave this kind of advice to a professional Civil Engineer.
