just got a 97 2 weeks ago for 500. cosmetically, it was great. dismantled everything but the engine and gave it a good cleaning/paint job. sat for 5 years so alot of the easier parts have been replaced. i have zero experience with motorcycles, but ive learned so much in such a short amount of time. replacing the belt with X-Ring with a 15T/45T set up for a balanced wear-in. other then that im going for the bobber style, a post-apocalyptic demon machine. its looking great so far. 5'10, 200lbs and it fits perfect. am definitely interested in Keiths belt drive! THATS SIIIICK. love learning from you guys. thank you so much!!
clean bike. i love mine after i did some crucial mods. i built a big bad belt drive .i built a tailored seat , built forwards and did stage 2 carb and exhaust. it is quik and pretty. go see it at my chanbel. these suzuki 800s are under rated.
Just bought my 02. yesterday..about the same bike. paid 1800.. thought I did good.. I'm 5.10 and it fits me good...can't wait for some warmer weather.. thinking about putting a Batwing fairing on it...always like that look. Great vid.BTW.
@@peterkozlowski3118 I would have to say yes... If you have any kind of experience riding a dirt bike or something along those lines. If you understand the fundamentals of riding a motorcycle. If it's your first time riding and if you do not have a clue than I would have to say find something smaller.
Nice Video, I just got the same one but its a 2000, I am noticeing that the engine temp light comes on intermittenly when I ride, I looked at the radiator fill cap near the tank and it looks filled,,,,what should I do next? should I flush the system? could it be a thermostat issue, I dont have a service manual,,,,TY so your help
@@KevinFreist Hey, I remember you. You converted the VZ800 to belt drive. Man, I would still love to do that to mine... Seeing that I'm not selling it anymore.
i still love this bike. just when i think it's too small it reminds me how mighty it is! just keep it man . our economy won't recover .that will be a solid machine for 25 more years with good maintenance .which it just doesn't need much of. great bike. i just had a 1975 R 90 S BMW fall in my lap. it is in good condition for 47 yes old . be putting up a vid of it in about a month.
@@KevinFreist That's awesome, I'll be looking for that video. I love this bike and I'm keeping it. I put over 3200 miles on it this summer (about a thousand more than last). I'm planning on a serious tune-up and new sprockets and chain. Would really love to do that belt conversion.
I love mine! But the previous owner put cobras on it and now the bike sputters when I roll it wide open. I’m not sure how to step the carbs up on it. Anybody help?
What mounting hardware did you use for the windshield? I have an 01 and searched for a quick release windshield, but it says there is no compatible mounting hardware.
@@jacky4u3 I really don't know, the windshield and mounts were used but the ebay seller said that they came off of a 1999 Marauder so I just assumed that they were made for the bike (hence the reason I bought all of it). I think if you call Memphis Shades, they can guide you and what to get.

Just bought this bike today !
Hope you enjoy it. It really is a fun bike.
How much did you pay for it

8:38 .. oh sweet LORD !! that sounds good
Nice bike! Thinking of selling my 98 but my son keeps riding it. Sounds great when he rides away! 😂
Just got one a couple days ago!
Enjoy it, it really is a fun bike to ride. If you're gonna run on the highway often, I recommend stepping up to a 17T sprocket.
im looking at a 98 right now how is it im looking for first bike
@@peterkozlowski3118 Not sure what your asking here...

I love mine! 99 also! Teal and black

The system may have air in it. I have a manual that's available online that is downloadable. I actually printed it up and put it in a binder.
You'll find it if you search "2000 Suzuki VZ800 service manual". Like I said, it's downloadable.
Beautiful bike!! 😃👍🏽
I hate that windshield but bike itself is beautiful
I only use it when it's cold out when I know I'll be up on the expressway.
@@451dskots88 Yes, I know it's useful, I'm just saying visually is bad
Can't imagine getting rid of a motorcycle
I ultimately kept it... Thanks to the drastic increase of fuel costs.
right. i have a heard of them! been collecting for 40 years.

You may want to try running some carb cleaner through the fuel system before you start pulling it apart.
What kinda mileage did you get per tank of fuel if you remember, their 3.5-4 gal if i remember right
I used to get around 115-120 miles per tank before I swapped in the 17 tooth sprocket. After, its over 130 miles per tank.
How tall are you ? Would you recommend it for someone whos 6-6‘1?
I'm 5'7" your height i think would be about as tall as I think would be comfortable.
@@451dskots88Do you think getting forward controls and changing the bar would be allowing taller people than 6’1 to ride it?

I bought the windshield on eBay and it came with everything. Its a Memphis Shades Speed Demon Solar.
What mounts are on the forks? Is it a universal mount?

How much for the new fork seals?
They were relatively inexpensive. I think the shop only charged me $100
