I have Ticket to Ride Nordic Countries. There are some strange rules with that one and if you get blocked at the top of the map, you cannot find another way around. Looks like they added more routes in that area. I think I like this one better!

It's really a completely different game (rules, layout, bonuses, card management, etc.), other than covering the same basic geography, not just a new version of Nordic Countries. A big thing to like that she didn't mention is that it's for up to 5 players, instead of limited to 3. So I'd say it's not an either/or for Northern Lights vs Nordic Countries, it's a new option entirely.
Completely agree. Nordic is also more limited to getting the right waggon cards. In Northern Lights you can use the locomotive as a joker which is not possible in nordic countries
