    We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning th-cam.com/users/postUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

      Hey, can you suggest me the best bluetooth speaker around 200 dollar, I only have 2 requirements
      1st- I'm an audiophile, so sound must be the first priority
      2nd- I like to take my speaker in shower so it must be handy and water proof. 😅

    I'm glad you're one of the few that includes speakerphone functionality in the review, because that's one of the things I want to have on my portables. One thing I never seem to be able to find out is whether a speaker is mono or stereo. I was surprised to find out that many bluetooth speakers are actually mono. This one looks sure to be stereo, but I thought the flip was mono (someone disassembled one and it had just one speaker). I'm very confused now about whether everything is actually mono, or just some, or maybe none, and why this is rarely mentioned (I only know of one specifically mentioning the Bose soundlink being stereo, but when I went to the Bose site they showed it had one speaker). It just seems weird to me that mono speakers could end up in recommended lists when they're competing with stereo ones.

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is stereo. Has two full range drivers. I think the reason that it's not mentioned much is that it's so difficult to get any real spatial separation with these small speakers. Unless you're really close to the speaker, most of the time you'll struggle to hear the difference between stereo and mono speaker setups. There is a trend to allow these speakers to work as a stereo pair - that's the best option if you really want to hear a stereo setup! Having said all that this speaker has a pretty good soundstage for its size and you can add another in the future for a stereo pair if that's not enough and funds allow.

    • @brokko_le3
      @brokko_le3 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheTechnologyMan Ok, that makes sense. I had already been listening to some speakers at a local electronics store and truth be told I didn't even notice. I just assumed they were all playing stereo, including the ones that turned out to be mono. I figured I hadn't heard it because of the noise in the store. Still makes me prefer this one though, not just because of knowing it's stereo (it's going to be close on my desk, so I may notice), but also the price. Now if only I can find some place that sells them in my area :) Thanks for the information and the great reviews!

    I can't believe they fixed the custom EQ bug but only half way! I want EQ custom all the time. It should remember the last EQ setting in its entirety when the speaker is off and then turned back on.

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does - so long as you don't activate the Bass on the speaker. You'll then need to go back to app to get back to custom settings. But if you set Custom EQ, it will stick, even after turning off speaker. Are you updated to the latest firmware?

    Just bought one of these, and a fantastic speaker, the sound is epic!
    A few things bug me, which is no SD card slot and i would have liked more than 12 hours play time, but i knew about these when buying it in fairness,
    As i say though, ultimately the sound is epic, and i like that your EQ settings is saved in the speaker itself, so doesn't matter where you play the music from, you'll still have your settings.
    Speaking of which, i do highly recommend using the custom EQ. Even with bass up it'sa little underwhelming, it doesn't come anywhere near as close to the sound quality of when you set the EQ yourself.

    Good review. I love the thoroughness of your assessment of the EQ settings & attention to detail regarding returning sliders to flat for the custom setting & the speaker's behavior switching between configurations. VERY NICELY DONE there. Music: vocals (compressed, Autotuned, enhanced, processed), instruments = multiple Synthasizers & digitally emulated & processed percussion. spot any issue/theme there? The source is all either highly-processed, digitally modified organic vocals or completely inorganic digitally-sourced instrument emulators. There is virtually no variance in dynamic range and very defined frequency ranges. Add to this the accompanying lossy audio compression from the video encoding & decoding and you have layer upon layer upon layer upon layer of processing & reprocessing. Each layer of processing loses audio data. The ideal is to minimize layers of processing. You touched upon CODECs: I don't know what standard you/youtube uses for these videos, but as you are familiar with tech you can readily appreciate how detrimental all this processing is. Each time it's done more and more of the original (already flawed) source is lost, interpolated, etc. I hate to be such a pedantic wonk here, but some other reviewers do use more analog-oriented source material for the music & I find that makes for a better audio representation. My $0.02. Despite that, I am coming to appreciate your thoroughness the more of your videos I watch/hear to the point I'm now seeking yours out proactively. Cheers.

    Hello. Great review, I'm glad I found this. If I want to pair two Motion+ and then connect them via Bluetooth to Chromecast connected to the projector, will both work in stereo mode or just one of them? And in general, is this a good choice for movie audio (room about 5x4m) or would you recommend other speakers in a similar budget? Best regards

      @@TheTechnologyMan Thanks so much for your quick response! I'm also thinking about a soundbar, but I thought the first external audio for the projector would be smaller and cheaper to test before I decide to buy a more stationary option. A good soundbar will definitely provide better sound and it is something that is finaly the goal, but at the moment some circumstances force me to a smaller and more portable solution, so I'm looking for a good Bluetooth speaker for video. Cheers

    Excellent review! I'm spoiled by the Minirig Minis I got a few years ago but have been watching reviews (like this one) of competing products to see if there's anything better and/or smaller out there yet. The Anker products are very good especially at their size, weight, and price point but I'm also very fussy about sound quality so will probably lean toward expanding my Minirig collection. They're expensive but worth every penny IMO but for anyone looking for a small, budget friendly option that still has decent sound I think it's hard to argue against the Motion+ or really any of the other Anker options. Thanks again for doing such a thorough review.

    I'm really trying to decide between the Soundcore Motion+, the Soundcore Boost, and the Soundcore 2. The motion+ is discounted for me right now at 79 EUR, but even at the discount it is a bit steep for me as I was looking for something under 50 EUR. However, I do like the idea of Bluetooth 5.0, USB C, and aptx as my phone supports that. Which would you recommend? I am looking for something to mainly use outdoors that can get fairly loud, and sound good but not horrible. And of course, the cheaper the better :)

      @@hyleenpognaire8134 :D :D :D yup me too. The overall experience is more than good. Really good actually. Very nice sound and versatile, indoors and outdoors, for its size. At an ~80% volume outdoors, don't expect more than 6 hours life (after a full charge), especially if you blast the bass too. Indoors in a more quiet environment, it can last 3 afternoons, so the 12-hours stated stands at a mid volume.

    Great exhaustive review again. Since time is often scarce as a tech youtuber, I'd suggest you to keep priority on audio gadgets more, not just because you are great at it but also because it is harder to carve out a space in phones and laptops now.
    Also, would recommend a summary of pros and cons of each of the product you review at the end of the video in a graphic. That'd b helpful in summarising the video.

      Thanks Henry Manson. I think the Motion+ has better sound overall than the Flip 4 - I've not tried the 5. At around that price it's a great sounding speaker. It is bigger than the Flip though and I prefer the Flip in use - controls etc. The Flip 4 also has a very bright sound which a lot of people like. Being somebody who's trying to decide between the anker models and a jbl flip 4 and having seen multiple reviews displaying contradictory results (for example, one where the jbl demonstrated very weak midrange and lacking treble while the soundcore 2 had loud but a bit harsh treble and fuller midrange, and the motion seemed even less trebly despite the dedicated tweeters and generally worse sounding), I found it interesting that your tests seem more thorough and trustworthy and confirming what seems to make sense in the first place. I've drawn no safe conclusion regarding what speaker would sound best to me though, so I would like to make a suggestion for future reviews if I can. I think it would be far better if you used a track that would be busy at the full frequency spectrum at the same time. I mean on this one you either get mostly mids and low mids on the verse then mostly bass and treble together on the chorus, but never all things together. This makes it even more difficult to compare when switching speakers and modes, since we often miss hearing the same parts of the song. Recording each seperately, then editing parts right next to each other would be better. Also, using exclusively electronic and not, say, a mix or electric and acoustic instruments, makes differences less obvious. I'm saying this because I liked your approach and the fact that you don't seem to be obsessed with loud bass and to hell with everything else. Thanks for the detailed reviews though.

      Matthew Crook get the Minirigs you won't be disappointed. I got the original Minirig Minis a few years ago and came across this review because I was curious if there was anything smaller and having comparable sound quality out there yet but honestly I have not found anything even close. I use my Minirig Minis for listening to lots of different music genres including classical and jazz as well as some occasional jamming with grooveboxes and tiny synths. After watching many reviews I'm now thinking about biting the bullet and getting the full size Minirig 3 bundle with the subwoofer to use as a small DJ rig for parties and just keep the Minirig Minis for when I'm jamming by myself in the park with a groovebox or iPad. The Minirigs can have lots of bass if you want but they're not obnoxious sounding and have a nice balance of warm midrange and crisp but not tinny sounding highs, even at full volume.

    Hey Gideon!
    Does the speaker have auto bass limiter? Like does it automatically cancel out too much bass? What about when you play with the equalizer, can the equalizer overload the speaker? Or will it automatically throttle bass when there’s too much of it?
    Because as I know most good speakers do this, like my Charge 3 it automatically cancel out bass under probably 40hz, for driver safety.
    Also last question 😆, when you use custom EQ does it have that dynamic bass thingy? Like when you lower the volume it boost bass and when you go higher it automatically throttle bass to save battery and increase loudness?

    • @Driver2616
      @Driver2616 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Technology Man : Hi Gidon, The Tronsmart Element Force 40w arrived this morning and I’ve paired it with a Sony PS-LX310 BT Bluetooth record turntable, which is what I wanted it for. The sound is a lot better, all round, than the Anker Soundcore 2 (which I had been using and which, of itself, is actually not at all bad). The Tronsmart default setting with Xtra Bass is, I find, the better one for my purposes, though the 3D surround setting comes in a very close second. The vinyl record music I’ve used to test this speaker is by Tears For Fears, Pink Floyd, Genesis and The Eagles - all older 12” vinyl records but sounding very rich and distinct on the Tronsmart. Moving the Tronsmart around the room (from a high bookshelf, down to desktop height, to behind a sofa) makes for some subtle differences in audio perception and lends towards creating different listening experiences. I found the most satisfactory position to be on a window sill behind a sofa. From there the room fills with quite pleasing sound. I found that in the sixteen different levels of volume, the 7th, 8th or 9th levels were most satisfactory, depending upon the music or artist being played at the given time. I think that’s about 50% to about 65% of volume levels provided by this speaker. I found that really loud but clear sounding. Any louder and the sound begins to distort. Other people may have different preferences regarding volume. I also have a WiFi Sonos Symphonisk in the kitchen. This speaker certainly provides a better, if different, sound to the Tronsmart but it has the disadvantage that it must be permanently plugged in and close to a socket and therefore can’t be moved around at will to other positions in the room or the house. I haven’t tried the phone call feature or the other features with the Tronsmart yet, nor have I tried playing music from my phone or tablet on it, though I will sometime in the future. Based upon my initial impressions I may now get a second Tronsmart Element Force, in order to create a stereo sound in the room, from my vinyl records. If I do I’ll let you know the results.

    Hey there. Sorry if you already answered this in your video but I'm not very tech minded and often don't understand the language. I'm thinking of getting one of these for my boyfriend as his car speakers are useless and his radio is neither aux nor Bluetooth enabled.
    Obviously I understand we'll need to figure out a way to keep the speaker stationary in a car (safety first) but my question is will this also work well for him answering calls while driving?

      Yes it has a built it mic but I'm not sure how well it'll work with the background noise of a car. You'd at least need it pretty close to you ...

    I bought this already recently and all I can really say about it is that for its price, it's not bad but it's not going to knock your socks off or anything like that.

      It's still a small portable speaker so I'd tend to agree!

    Is it stereo? I’m not talking about pairing 2 devices. What I mean is: does a single device play the left channel on the left driver and the right channel on the right driver?
    Thanks.

      @TheTechnologyMan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it has twin drivers - but you've to be pretty close to hear any separation.

      Yes it is overall I'd say. But twice the price and far bigger too!

    What would be your advice for the best budget speaker under $100 that is compatible with iOS especially for Netflix, Apple Music and TH-cam ?

    Which has more bass?
    Motion +
    Flip 4
    Tribit Stormbox

      It's between the Motion+ and Stormbox - I haven't fully tested the Stormbox so can't give you a definitive answer I'm afraid.

    Is this better than the flip4? because price wise the're quite similar, and from listening experiences jbl's tend to be bass heavy.

      I think overall it is a better speaker. But a lot of people like the bright sound of the JBL, and it's more compact.
