Good tips. Been playing for close to 2 years now and didn’t realise the revive order. Others serves as reminders/ refreshers. Good stuff.
the game never tells you about positioning
You've made so many good points in one video today. Attack Reduction seems much more commonly used at this point in time than reducing Crit Rate and/or Crit Damage. When half the Attack of the entire team can disappear with a single AOE hit, doubling, quadrupling, etc. the efficacy of the remaining Attack with CR and CD seems like it could be more important than many realize. Plus CR and CD benefit even those characters who don't use Attack at all. Looking at you, Great Hall.

You're absolutely right about the HP/Defence issue - esp in arena where tbh HP is the better way to go.
The one significant exception is Valk CB teams where you're essentially using her shield as your health pool. There HP is a wasted stat - and actually hurts you on your stun target.
Oh, and obviously you want to keep HP lower on someone you want to draw agro
Really interesting about the order. I didn't know revive acted that way. I've now reorganized my Maulie 3v3 team. thanks! One thing on attack though. HH did a good video on this. To fully optimize damage with attack, you need to get the correct ratio between Attack and CD.
The math goes something like this: Total attack/Base attack should = (CD/100 ) + 1
So say you have someone with base 1000 attack. you get that up to 3000 attack. Total attack/Base attack = 3
Say you have 250CD. (250/100) + 1 = 3.5
To get the more damage for your stats, you should get more attack rather than more CD. Get your attack up to 3500 (3500/1000 = 3.5 [same as your CD Ratio])
A lot of people get too much CD and don't focus on attack, but it's the ratio that is more important.
I'm glad you mentioned Avenging. I have my arena Skullcrown in it and she wins quite a few games on her own. When I look at my def wins I can pretty much predict the games I've won because of Skullcrown hitting about 5 A1's.
I think Avenging is better for Arena as most people build high Crit Rate in there.
Now they went and shook that up. Avenging counters when debuffed instead of Crits.
Great tips, I had no idea revive was based on champ placement. I thought it was based on attack order. That's pretty big for those annoying arena defenses.
Looks like you just explained why characters throw shields, ally protect, etc. on my lead who is usually highest in health, as opposed to the characters near death who really need them. Others have covered it but I didn't get it until you said it. Well played, Sir.
I think resist is completely undervalued for most players, myself included. I was really struggling with frost spider as the last boss in doom tower. Swapped to resist aura and a few pieces swapped. Made the boss SO easy after that.
This is honestly probably the best Raid video i've seen this year. Especially the point about defence/hp - really got me thinking, will need to re-gear some champs :D
And I really liked the point about accuracy in great hall. In my opinion accuracy is a head and shoulders above other options in great hall, because most of champions need accuracy to function as they supposed to and having 80 accuracy in a tank makes up gearing champs just so incredibly easier. If you take factions wars for example you'll more than likely need 5-star champs to have 200 accuracy (without banner) and a lot of champs will likely need to be in lifesteal or regen sets (leaving space only for 40 acc from acc/perc set) - unless you'll just happen to be so lucky to have healing support champions in every faction. I almost maxed out accuracy for all affinities in great hall and haven't invested anything at all elsewhere and so far really happy with this decision.
I used ash voyager's damage calculator with whisper a2 to compare damage stats and I found out that having 4000 atk and 300% c.dmg is better than having 5000 atk and 200% c.dmg. The difference was 11k dmg. Having 4500 atk and 250% c.dmg is only marginally lower damage output than with 4000&300. In that range of 4-5k atk and 200-300 c.dmg the ratio doesn't really matter that much but the important thing is that 50% c.dmg is worth 500atk.
6:24 did you purposefully mean 220 accuracy.. cause 12 x 20 is 240

Hey Ash, big fan here and I thank you for all the help over the last year..however I don’t think you do this purposely at all but you and some of the other content creators need to realize that not all of us have the great hall you have. Talking about defense at close to 5000?! I have a really good cast of characters but my great hall is a work in progress. I wish you would do some videos where you approach it from that angle. Talking about accuracy being super high and things like that, it just doesn’t add up for the regulars who spend some money like I do. Thank you and appreciate all the help you do give!

Ditto Warren's comment. I like videos that give me insight on how to play the game (especially when you tell me about non-obvious rules such as revive order). I'd like to see more videos (like this one) that discuss sets. I can't control what champions I pull, but I can control my quest for particular gear. Thanks for all you do.

The argument for DEF at the expense of HP used to be that DEF protects HP so more is needed. Yet we now live in an era where Ignore Defense, Max XP reducing skills and armors, HP Burn, HP based shields, etc. proliferate. Lucky for me I listened to you early on and chose a balanced approach because the truth is much more complicated and situational.
ASH is a cool dude. He's the kind of guy I would go to the meetup to see even if I've quit the game months ago.
I stoped playing raid for a few months so along with that I stoped watching your videos but I remember on how much I enjoyed watching your videos and just catching up with not only raid but just to see anything you wanna share that’s outside of raid so I’m back for good.
Good tips but i have two suggestions. Hp/def balance for me should be minimum 15/1 for example champ with 3k def should have min 45k hp. Champ with 60k hp and 2k def is more tanky than 30k hp, 4k def champ.
Second suggestion that for nukers base stat is more important than c.dmg. for example: 6k atk +(6k x 200% c.dmg) is 18k dmg,
4k + (4k x 300% c.dmg) is 16k dmg. After atk buff difference will be even bigger ;)

I feel like the reason so many recommend "defence" over "hp" in the great hall is because you double dip for defence based champions when picking "defence" first, because you both get dmg and sustainability.
Im about half way through my second month playing, so im a brand new player. But i did some research about the game before i even downloaded it. My research was watching your videos, and hell hades too. You guys have taught me so much about this game already. I practiced with a couple of accounts before settling on my main but thanks to you both, im already at lvl 55 with some good champs, and gear and such. Just wanted to say thank you for your efforts Ash, and that you really are making a difference for new players. Without you guys, id still be making huge mistakes and making new accounts trying to avoid the same mistakes over and over. P.S. you gained a new sub ^^
Besides the very interesting tips, I noticed Armiger on Destroy and Defense gear (wondering why, looks interesting), and then also saw a fully leveled Lordly Legionaire (19:08 on the left of Shaun's head), whom not a month ago I watched in a video of -Shaun! _among the top 10 Epics _*_to not to invest into._*

Stages 21-25 actually require the same accuracy as Stage 20. They didn't scale resist/acc of the bosses/waves
they did :)
They only buffed their HP, damage and speeds

Also, I think it's really important to point out that most people don't have good enough relentless gear to justify slapping any old champion in. The ability is all upside for most content, but not if you have to make major stat sacrifices. Ofc there are several champs who are worth gearing in relentless even with the lesser stats, but I see people fawning over relentless gear all the time....to the detriment of letting their champs work.

Although... sometimes when you want your tank to actually tank the run, you might have to build them with less HP than the nukers.
Ash, I pulled Reliquary Tender, but as free to play, I don't have alot of extra stuff for doing more 5 star food to get more 6 stars. I guess right now, I'll continue running Archmage Helmut, Rae, Shirimani, and Jareg in mino for masteries. I booked Archmage. He used just about all of my epic books.

I find the demands for gearing getting incredible high. 250 accuracy, 200+ speed, just to be remotely viable in SILVER arena right now. We generally get 8 total rolls per gear piece (if they're all gold-tier) over 9 pieces, that's 72 total rolls (of which we know 1 is speed, 1 is flat-attack, 1 is flat def, and 1 is flat HP). 68 rolls, and to get to 200 speed you need another 15 speed rolls, to get to 250 accuracy you need ~25 accuracy rolls... that leaves only 30 *total rolls* for everything else - HP%, DEF%, CRIT RATE, and CRIT damage. Since we can't really control the rolls we get and most of us don't have multiple 6-star gold tier speed boots in the specific set we need, it just feels impossible. In a unlimited energy game like Diablo this works but given that F2P players can generate maybe 600 energy a day on average, that seems really unreasonable.

Relentless gear is also great for Legend champs that you can't afford to book who need it for cooldowns. I put my Astralon in relentless and helped push me right through faction crypt and even good enough for arena.

Hey Ash! how about a video on the new arena matchmaking algorithm for Bronze/Silver?
I feel like Plarium did a great job with this one. I'm in silver 1 for the first time on my account, and I'm seeing people around my account power level in my matchmaking. One of the big things to mention with the new algorithm though: I can't seem to lose more than 10 arena defenses in a day! (my defense is 3 lv 1 uncommons) I'm not sure if this limit changes if you win some defenses, but it is very interesting, and I wonder if anyone else has discovered anything interesting about the new algorithm

Now if only you did take overs here and there lool... I'm still having such a big issue with building champs for effectiveness.. like mixing in the right amount of attack and crit damage, and then also making sure they have enough accuracy as well for debufs but beefy and speedy enough for hard content. shield set falls off if you have a good control team, as you will cycle faster than the opponent, and most of the time your shield will fall off before the opponent gets a turn(PvE). But its an incredible way to sustain early game where the aim is to just nuke your way through stuff

I didn't have a decent retaliation set but I did have a 6* speed crit rate and hp% bit gloves and chest in healing set with a decent helm. With life weapon and shield. It works fairly good high heals.

I was just doing stage 11 Fire Knight this morning and I couldn't land a Decrease Defense debuff on him with shield down from my warmaiden who has 215 Accuracy with Chani who adds a extra 40 accuracy and it was forcing me to manually run the dungeon to complete it had to take her out and run my aina which was landing every debuff with 60 odd something accuracy with the chani lead
I like vrask in relatation instead of relentless. As long as he has 100% crit rate
But either way you cant go wrong!

Yep! All of this! I see loads of new players in my clan cluster showing off new builds with atk champs at like 3000atk and 300% crit damage.......even worse, when they have thrown on 50% crit rate

First I want to say your videos rocks! :) I didn't know in what order they align after. I've watch a lot of your vids since I began playing Raid, I think 3 months ago. I have a question though, as I'm new. :p I just pulled Zavia on an ancient shard. Should I put books on her? Maybe someone could help me. The heroes I use are: Cardiel, Ithos, Genzin, Madame Serris, Phsylar, Skullcrown, Stag Knight, Reliquary Tender, Coldheart and Kael (Apothecary as well). Who should I switch out if Zavia is worth maxing out?

Interesting tips about revive order i didnt know this ! But i got duchess anyway so never had to care about order since she revives all haha
As to the HP point, if you aren't running at least 70-80k on your arena defense champs in Gold, you are going to get wiped regardless of what your defense number is. Even poorly built nukers are hitting for 70k+ on aoes, even without savage. Heck, that probably applies to silver now as well with the amount of gold teams getting pushed down into Silver arena now.
