Thanks. Once again, Great video! I'm going to get the Neewer CRS6 for my Neewer Z2 and it will be even cheaper than the MagSphere by 50% less, as the CRS6 kit is only $30, instead of the MagSphere at $60 on Amazon. Thanks again for this detailed video.
Hi Tony, enjoy your videos - thank you. I got a V1 and trying to see if the Magsphere is different than the Godox dome and if the bounce is better than the Godox bounce card? Would appreciate your thoughts. Basically does the AK-R1 Godox modifiers do the same thing at MagMod for the V1? Thanks!
For a V1 i will stick with Godox modifiers. The bounce from Magmod its better than the Godox one but i dont like the magnetic grip you have to install on your flash in order to use it and uts heavy but the results are great. Dont expect miracles because at the end are still small flash modifiers and work better close to your subject or to minimize the specular highlits . Depending on how you use your flash on camera or off camera A Fast box 24” might be be better investment Thank you !
I was going to ask Tony the plastic hard diffuser that Neewer puts out, you’re saying it’s not as good as those silicone diffusers? I’m only saying this because I’m thinking about returning the plastic dome diffuser and just purchasing the Neewer silicone diffuser. Let me know if you can please. Thank you.
The plastic dome diffuser its a very good all purpose item . If you want to increase the apparent size of your flash you go with the bigger silicone ones . Not a significant change but its better. These diffusers help spreading the light a little more . Depends on how you use your flash , on camera or off camera . Keep the one you have and learn how to feather it and after that you can decide if you need the other ones .
That xl mag diffuser is almost small softbox. Why not use roundflash beatydish? It's 45cm wide softbox without grid but has more controlled light spill and costs only 20 usd and can be used with speedlight and ad200 fresnel.
For traveling and outdoors Magmod is very handy . I like that it remove the reflective qualities of the strobe and is reducing the specularity in highlights. Beauty dish is effective on close proximity from subject and most of the time i have the light 6’ away . But unless you do a lot of location or environmental portrait work these modifiers are not the best tools for portraits
I will use a bigger modifier for groups if possible, a shoot through umbrella will do much better than any of these modifiers but if to choose between these modifiers for groups i think i like the Godox ML softbox dome diffuser because its less directional . The Magmod XL because you can only use it with the reflector is more directional and will work fine for 1 person but for groups is not that great unless uou use it outdoors more like fill light to open up the shadows. . Have fun !
