  • Soap you buy at the supermarket is hiding some pretty scary stuff... It might be time you make your own!
    I was having an embarrassing issue. Using deodorant was irritating my skin, and so I went looking for a more "natural" solution.
    My search led me to Laurel Mountain Soaps.
    Tim and Jocelyn started making soap because their baby girl was getting severe diaper rashes.
    The skin products they were buying were irritating their daughters skin to the point of blisters, and they decided if no one made a natural product that worked for their baby girl, they would just do it themselves.
    They started experimenting with goat milk soap, and saw it work wonders on their daughters skin condition.
    Years later they run a business making TRULY NATURAL goat milk soap that not only cleans your body, but makes you FEEL better too!
    In this episode Tim and Jocelyn teach us WHY GOAT MILK SOAP IS the BEST SOAP for your body, and how you can make your own!
    If you can't make your own soap you can buy some incredible stuff from Tim and Jocelyn!

    We own registered Nigerian Dwarf goats in Northern IL. We also make goat milk soap, shampoo bars, shaving bar and sell it on our website. I love hearing our customers telling us how our soaps are helping them.

    My skin care has for a very long time been just water, organic sesame oil, baking soda, sea salt. And yes, one simple natural soap i use to wash my hands. Hair can btw be washed with some vinegar, and its amazing stuff actually for hair.

    I started to raise pigs and I have been thinking about doing this with the lard. Thanks for sharing. I hate detergent based soaps and organic soaps are too expensive. I am going to try my hand at this when I get my first batch of lard back from the butcher. Thanks for sharing!

    • @JanineMJoi
      @JanineMJoi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lard is the best thing to use for ointment bc it's the closest to human skin. Please don't waste your lard on soap. Make ointments with it. Comfort ointment. Comfrey, calendula infused in lard, harden with beeswax, add a touch of tea tree oil. First aid in a jar. (I owned an herbal skin care business for 28 years, online)

    Is it bad that I couldn’t stop admiring the amount of work space in that kitchen?!? That’s just about my dream kitchen there! Can’t wait to have one like it, and yes making soap is one of the things I’ll be doing in it which just doesn’t work for me here. I have actually found one soap at the supermarket which doesn’t give me a napalm style rash but this video made me go check the ingredients of it and they’re really not great. I think I’ll look for something better in the meantime. We’ll see, things are picking up in speed so I might be making my own again soon.
    It has crossed my mind that I might want goats just for soap. It also wouldn’t be a bad idea to schedule things so I have goats milk when I don’t have cows milk. Another we’ll see there. I’ve heard the warning! 😂😂

      @@Homesteadyshow 😂😂😂 oh I reckon you were pretty clear about that not being a good idea!
      Btw, you can make soap with cows milk too. It not being homogenised would make things a little trickier but it can be done and it’s good enough that people are selling it. So if someone reeeeally wants to make milk soap, they don’t need to get goats 😊

    Cows that eat food that was sprayed with herbicide, that herbicide is still in their manure after being digested. Then even after that manure is composted the herbicide is still in high enough concentrations to kill broad leaf plants for years. This is what ended up causing so many issues last year for home gardens.

    One thing I find with chapstick is that they make it taste good. So you lick it off. Saliva is an acid which dries out your lips even worse. I use chapsticks or lip balms almost exclusively in the winter due to my lips getting so dry they will crack and bleed if I don't. As long as I don't lick my lips when I use them, the chapstick or lip balm works for me.

  • @sterlingeisenhower5947

    Austin, chapstick has never been advertised as a "moisturizer". It's marketed as a protectant. A layer of protection against outside moisture or dryness and abrasion. Yes, it's slippery. Vaseline does the same thing; which by the way, nobody is allergic to, but it works better than Vaseline on your lips because they have a much different function in your life than your elbows.

    • @denisewalsh9873
      @denisewalsh9873 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vaseline is made from petroleum which is good to get you car moving but not to be place on human skin.

    • @sterlingeisenhower5947
      @sterlingeisenhower5947 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's petroleum JELLY. It's not combustible, like rubbing gasoline on your feet or something. I repeat, NOBODY is allergic to it.
