Is there a reason you don’t lift the makrel onto the boat with the rod instead of hand lining them? Landlubber just wondering is all, love the channel and content.

      Hi Kevin
Thank you very much indeed for your comment and question. 😁 👌
It's all to do with safety, really.
If you bring on board with the rod, with the mackerel wriggling and if there's a spare hook, it's all at face level, not a good situation to be in.😬
So the way I do it, I have control, and it's safe, no stray hooks heading for eyes and / or face.😁👌
I hope that answers your question. If you have any more, just ask away.😁👌
      Glad your enjoying the channel.
      Have a great weekend.

      Hi Andrew.
You are right bud, plus hand lining is a pain unless you have plenty deck space because it's so much easier to get tangled with hand lining 😉👍

Unfortunately, there are no trawlers left locally that can sell bait, as they are mostly family owned, and they need bait for their own creel boats.

      Hi Scott.
Thank you very much indeed for your comment and question.
No, we don't call to any harbour authority. However, the boats usually give a wee heads up to any other vessel if they are leaving the harbour.
We are lucky at Dunbar as the entrance, although dangerous in certain conditions, it's a short run in, with good visibility.
I hope that answers your question.

      @onemanandhisboat  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Graham
Thank you very much indeed for your kind comment.
"The music" Graham, we do understand how you feel about the music, but if you can give me a moment to explain, to help you understand what OMAHB is all about.
The reason Myself or Jeff puts music on all our vlogs is to create a feeling. A feeling of either inspiration, excitement, or drama, if something not so nice is about to happen.
This journey we are on isn't just a documentary about a fisherman's life, we want you to feel, how we feel, when we are at sea and pulling pots or fishing, and the best way to do this, is by putting music over footage, and the results speak for themselves.😁👌
Also, we work in the North Sea, so sometimes we have to mask the rubbish sound quality. 😁👌
I hope that gives you a little insight on what we are trying to achieve.
So the next time you watch a vlog and we have a little drop of music in there, try and feel what we want you to experience. 😍😁👌
But if not, you can always tell me in your next comment.🤣🤣🤣
I've got big shoulders bud, you'll not hurt my feelings.🤣🤣🤣🤣
As for the crab and the deep sea world. There used to be plenty of shout outs from them, but over the years, it's gone very quiet 🤫, so I'm not sure how they do it now.🤷‍♂️😁👌
Hope you have a great weekend, champ

Hi Barry, great video as usual 🙂 Quick question, single eyed parlours, bait back in the eye section or in the parlour? I was at Dunbar the other day and saw some creels on the harbour with bait bags in the eye section but on this video on your steel creels your bait bag is in the parlour section. What’s best and is there a difference? MY instinct tells me it should be in the parlour. Cheers Barry. Derek

    • @DerekKilgour

And just watched the end of the video 🙂 and the bait bag id in the eye section of your wooden “rat eaten” creel!

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Derek.
Yeah, the bait bags should go in with the eye of the parlour, not in the parlour cell itself like the steel creels.
What made me do that was basically the steel creels weren't fishing to full capacity, so I moved the bait bag, and it made all the difference.
However, the wooden creels are like night and day when catching, so there is no need to put the bag in beside the cell.
Also top tip for the bag, keep it away from the eye, angle it out the way, so the lobsters have to go into the creel to eat, if you don't, it will just sit in the eye and help itself with actually going in the creel.😁👌
I hope that answers your question, bud.
Good luck, and all the best.😊

As a fellow Scot i think your a cruel bassad , leaving the fish flapping around before death .,Surely its much quicker and easier to kill straight away with thumb in mouth and bend over which break necks
very quickly as then dead right away and not this left flapping around for while before death ..thought u would have know that .

      Oh dear.
Someone has gotten out of the wrong side of the bed today.
Fellow scot or not, you don't seem to grasp the urgency when you mackerel fishing.
The schools are fast moving, and I have to stay fishing to get the amount I need on board.
And you are only seeing what I & youtube allows you to see.
As I can't show dispatching on the channel TH-cam terms and conditions!
I do hope that you get yourself to Peterhead and complain to All the
" ships" catching 1000's of tons per trip about the way they are "cruel bastards!" As you put it.
But no, you want to pick on the single handed most sustainable fisherman you can, because I'm there.
If you don't like what you see, then don't watch it, simple as that.
I thank you for spending the time to write your inadequate comment of a fishery you obviously don't understand.
We hope you have a lovely weekend
      All the best.😊

@fishingstevie8830 so what are you doing on our channel then? obviously, you've just admitted that you are here to cause trouble! and you have no interest in seeing a fisherman trying to do the best by their fishing grounds by sustainably fishing as best as they possibly can in the harshest of economic climate we have right now.🤔🤷‍♂️
This certainly is NOT the channel for you.
I advise you to find another channel where your opinions might matter more.
Thank you for making your point and having your say.😁👍
      Kindest regards.
