Thanks for another great adventure on the boat, even if it wasn't too successful with the mackerel. I like that you fish for your bait. When I first started watching your channel I thought, I dunno, like you just got bait at the store or something. Lol, now I see you can do that too, but this is very cool. Really enjoyed the pensive quiet music when you weren't getting any mackerel. That really brought home the disappointments that come when nothing else is coming in. Interesting that you use fresh bait in your pots. Down here we use old filleted fish that have been left for months and are very ripe. We do single pots than strings too in less than 10 fathoms.

I've had this from all over the country, bud.
Some folks swear by the smelly bait, as others fresh, it's been very quite interesting for me getting feedback from all the commercial men on what works best for them, and it's all different 🤷♂️🤣🤣🤣
We haven't got the ground for single pots, if everyone done that, they would be able to walk from St Abbs head to the bass rock without getting there feet wet🤣🤣🤣🤣....it's getting like that now with fleets, it's an absolute disgusting way to fish...but what else is there 🤷♂️🙈😁👌

Takes a while for the mackerel to shoal up again after Dolphins or Seals have scattered them. Can't wait to see how the Northern Creel works alongside yours.

Yeah, we normally get frozen bait from the buyer. However , by the time I got the big parlour fleet shot, he was away home for the evening. And obviously, 4am is far too early for him to get the frozen bait.
So I took a gamble and lost that morning. 🙈🤣🤣🤣

How much can you sell lobsters for and does the price fluctuate?

Yes, the price does fluctuate depending on what time of the year it is and what orders the buyer needs to fulfil.
At the minute they are a ridiculous £12 per kg £6 per lobster, for us fishermen. If you were to buy 1 out of the shop £25 all day long.🫣🙈😳😳😳
Unfortunately it's the buyers who will always make the best living from the fishermen's hard work and outlays.
As for selling myself, I need to get a sellers licence, then I'd need to get get scales and have them checked by the authorities, then I need to get some where to put tanks in, then buy the tanks pumps etc, then a big walk in freezer....so as you can see, it a big output just to get set up....maybe 1 day.🤷♂️ you never know.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Agree 💯 but the research telling us mackeral stocks are sustainable when they are not you have these big factory ships working not far of our shores these fish are far from safe

We got our handheld from Gaelforce £140 a nice wee icom.
For safety reasons, I suggest you buy new when it comes to radios, 2nd hand might be a risk🤷♂️
But I don't know your circumstances, maybe try ebay, might be able to pick something up there.

Much creels you fish mate sure on your last video you says you onlyhad 108 out a fish 250 but some boats over my way are fishing 1500 the boats are doing 2 shifts morning and back shift there just scopping everything in our path its crazy its a big cat shoots 50 afleet they go over allones gear half time av only got a orkney19 fastliner and see trying to get your gear up when there over top night mare pal

aye, you need to be taking more fish when they are there. nevermind what the gobshites say about taking too many, you are trying to scrape by on the very minimum which is costing you. even if you have a couple of extra days worth in a barrel or freezer, you will still be using the same amount of bait regardless of when they are caught.
and i will always stick by my thinking - dolphins and seals are a-holes :D
