    A 56 second last lap on a 13:54 seems pedestrian for an athlete that has ran 13 flat-ish

    If I heard correctly, the qualifying standard to get into this race is 13:33. So, why is there anything other than one pack if the winner ended up running 13:54?

    • @defb4dishonor211
      @defb4dishonor211 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think this is right before USA Champs, so if they qualified this could be just a workout. Anyone there would also be praised forever if they beat Galen, so they couldn’t risk following the pacer if Galen wasn’t going to do it. The best chance they had was to hope it was slow enough that they could stay in it with a lap to go, which is what happened with 2nd and 3rd

      Agreed. Seems way too stiff. His speed is really not bad, but his knees don't seem to come up high enough and it looks like he's heel striking. Drew Hunter in highschool also looked like this, don't know if he's fixed it though.

      That's how I run too tbh and I'd probably be a lot faster if i could fix my form but it's just kinda how i run naturally and every time I've tried to make changes I've ended up beat up with not much to show for it. Kinda sucks because it probably limits my speed ceiling and wastes energy but I mean I'm not slow by any means at the same time. I'm a pretty good runner but nothing special. It's just the way some people run I guess.

      Pacing is less about actual pacing and more about breaking the wind for the competitors. A good reason to keep pacers in the sport is so runners can break world records even when they're the only ones near that shape.
