I understand what you are saying and this is coming from a US citizen in 2024. I am still hopeful that the November election will bring about good change and democracy will not go by the wayside. In the meantime, still listen to the Oils singing about Australia but I understand their perspective on how they feel about their country. No country is perfect but regardless of where we live, we all need to strive to make things better for our perspective country and the world we live in.

This is bizarrely the most underrated song from one of Australia's most commercially successful bands. And, unlike many of their other songs which are mostly applicable just to Australian social & political life, this song has such universal appeal. Really ought to be played more especially on national holidays like Australia Day or Anzac Day since those are times when people have a tendency to become conspicuously patriotic & think in terms of "my country".
Maybe if more people get the message, they'll tone it down a bit because the way one person perceives "their" country may be entirely different from the way another does. Sure, you have a right to express what you want but it is always important to be mindful of others, especially in this "woken" age. Always keep it real.
Easily on par with Forgotten Years & Blue Sky Mining. Love it :)

41 years ago I saw Midnight Oil at The Royal Antler Narrabeen. I have to thank the boys from The Strand house at Dee Why for taking me to the gig.
It was late 1979, a warm night, people pouring jugs of iced water on each other and Peter Garrett's head, steam coming from the Lead Singer's bald cranium.
Their music and especially their lyrics have made THE OILS one of the most important Rock bands in history.
This new song ' Gadigal Land' is an instant Oils Classic.
Words cannot describe how much I love this track.
Sydney Radio station MMM played it every hour yesterday, so credit to them for that.
Before they played it the first time I was thinking " oh, I hope it's good "
I loved it from the opening chords, the thumping Drums, the throbbing Bass and Garrett's vocals delivering every word that is punching the Colonial invaders in the face.

I also like the band and I don't know why this song become one of my top 3 songs of Midnight Oil. For me it's Forgotten Years still their best. My likes for punk and metal bands with similar song topics that they create made me notice the greatness of the band. A tough guy that makes dancing so easy.... no argument, that's him.

First time I have ever heard this song. This is so different than One Country which I heard first. They are different perspectives of the same country. I do love this but I love One Country better. Maybe it’s because of the video done for that and the hopefulness in those words as opposed to this song. But I do like My Country. It is the perspective that many people in the US have. That somehow the US is the greatest country in the world regardless of what we do. I love my country and there are things I can be proud of. But I see other countries that do good things that I feel the US could be doing that it makes me sad that some would interpret that as me not being patriotic because I see these flaws and that changes should be made. My apologies for my little soapbox here! I see us all as human beings and that we all need to make this world a better place regardless of where we live. Thank you Midnight Oil for fighting to get these messages out in your songs. Peace to all.
