While Xavier Salomon’s presentation was excellent as usual, the black kitten in the background almost stole the show! More agile than the Grand Conde and cuter than the duc d’Aumale, fully deserves a dish of crème Chantilly… Kidding aside, thank you for another great presentation!
This presentation, in my view, is the best so far. I love visiting British manor houses to see the art. This is an example of a place to visit in France, which I find valuable. The Frick is making an amazing contribution to understanding art history. Thank you. 🇨🇦
Chantilly looks so charming. I can't believe I did not know about this gem the 2 times I visited Paris in my younger years! If i ever return to France, I plan on visiting this collection. Also- love the no reaction from Xavier with something falling in the background! As always, a very interesting presentation. Thank you Mr. Salomon!
An excellent presentation on somewhere I confess I I know little about. Thank you so much. Also an excellent presentation on the joy of a kitten having a great time. Altogether perfect!
I absolutely love the tiny black kitten!! I watched the lecture once for the content and the second time for kitten. I think we all gasped when kitten decided to play in the plant and the whole thing swayed !! Honestly, Dr. Salomon your lectures just get better and better. I loved the tie in with porcelain at the Frick plus the trip to the gardens. I can't wait until you have the opportunity to travel again!!
Great video. Stumbled upon this video while doing research for an upcoming trip to Paris. Now I want to watch all of your videos. 😅 I’ll have to visit the Frick next time I’m in New York so you can give me a tour 😜😅😅😅
Ok I already coveted Xavier's gorgeous art books library and his immense art knowledge which he shares so brilliantly with is... Now I want his cat too! 😍
Excellent presentation. Thank you to Xavier Salomon. The one thing he forgot to mention is the Great Stables. A masterpiece of 18th-century architecture, the Great Stables were built by the architect Jean Aubert for Louis-Henri de Bourbon, the 7th prince of Condé. They are a veritable horses' palace turned into a museum for the horse and used also for equestrian shows throughout the year, devoted to the art of Haute-école horse training which has been contributing to Chantilly's international renown for more than 30 years.
Excellent presentation. I agree that the cat should have his own channel, but the whole thing is beautifully written and presented. When I was at school there was a high-quality reproduction of Les Tres Riches Heures du Duc du Berry published. I bought it but subsequently parted with it. How I regret that! I didn't know if was in Chantilly.
Mr.Salamon l am gled again to see e bit of the world of different cultures as Chantilly where l should spent days to enyjoy miself especially among the mokeys. As you represent the Frick.collection may bee you can have also some of desired painting. As a chatoux must bee really beutiful and rich.I like also strowbary but fist of all the library where l could choose also some intetesting to read and sit in a room among beautiful decoration and painting....May bee an opportunity like this in my life once. Thanks ....
Thank you for this wonderful tour with historical insights as well as the glimpse of your wee kit doing what small cats do (everything and anything they want!). I appreciate hearing about the art in context of its collectors and time period and have always enjoyed looking at books aboutThe Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry so I was interested in hearing that it's shown normally in facsimile.
I watched it twice: one for the art and another for the cat. :) I knew the museum has the illuminated manuscript, but did not know about the paintings. Adding Chantilly to my itinerary.
I didn’t realize it was a kitten, I thought it was a rat. I was screaming at my tv the whole time. “Xavier, turn around! There’s a big rat crawling around behind you!”
One of my favorite French chateaux is Chateau de Chambord, which even has a da Vinci connection. And of course for a cocktail with a curator, there's a chambord kir royale. But no great collection of art.
the kitten is a darling little creature to be sure! what is wonderful about the modern tech is that these glorious artistic achievements can be readily replicated today using photographic reproduction and laser carving/shaping/printing. everyone knows that sure, but would it not be a kind of great thrill to have a room like the 'monkey' room w/ those cheerful and bright portrayals of fun? one could get the gist of this room (scaled down a bit, of course) for not too much $$.
the kitten was adorable and was it the cause of the crash heard towards the end? What can I say about the tour? Inspiring as usual. And I'll have a cocktail later,
If you want to see a lot of Chantilly in a movie, there's Vatel, where Gerard Depardieu plays the chef to the Grand Conde, filmed on location at the chateau.
Hard pass on any representations of The Murder of The Innocents, I would not like to walk by that painting. The Book of Hours of the Duc de Berry so beautiful, I enjoy my George Braziller copy.

So funny. I didn’t even see it; I had to rewind the video, but once I saw the kitten it couldn’t be unseen.
Your misbehaving cat was hilarious Xavier! You need to do an episode titled "Xavier and Cat!"
I so enjoy these episodes thank you
Can’t tell what is more heart-stopping. The art which leaves one breathless or Xavier S. who does the same....
I love art history and I've really been enjoying these lectures with the unflapable Mr. Salomon. Mr. Salomon, you are a pro. And, so is your tiny cat.
Love the cat!
Your adorable mischievous kitty became the star of this episode!

Chantilly is great but that little black cat in the background is the real work of art.
Just genius.

I've done the same!
Ditto....Didn't see the cute kitty until the very end, which meant a second viewing (at least!). Lovely episode!
Thank you again Xavier for another exceptional presentation. Must confess that it has been some years since I had the opportunity to visit the Frick.

Such a passionate and moving lecture! Thank you Xavier Salomon
Your black Kitty is adorable and the presentation as usual exceptional!
So helpful for planning a trip!

Merci Dr. Solomon! 🍃🐮🌺🍃🌿🌺🐮🍃🌺🎭😁
It is difficult to leave Paris because there is so much to do there, but if we are ever permitted travel again, I will go to Chantilly. Fascinating.

Thank you for enriching our lives with interesting and extraordinary lectures.
Hi from Tel Aviv
I visited Chantilly to see "The three Graces" by Raphael . Thanks Mr. Salomon for taking me back there again.
Excellent! Thank you ~ Shared on LinkedIn ;->
Yes, your kitty is really lovingly!! Eva-maria plus cat from vienna, austria
I didn’t realize it was a kitten, I thought it was a rat. I was screaming at my tv the whole time. “Xavier, turn around! There’s a big rat crawling around behind you!”
Would love to see more of Jadwiga!

I remember an old song called "Chantilly Lace" so I presume the area once had a lace making industry.
One of my favorite French chateaux is Chateau de Chambord, which even has a da Vinci connection. And of course for a cocktail with a curator, there's a chambord kir royale. But no great collection of art.
Le chaton est si mignon!
Merci!
The cat rules!
What an amazing collection housed in a stunning palace (as that's what it is). Thank you.
OMG! Your kitten is a art critic...lol
the kitten is a nice touch...
Chantilly also had the incredible painting by Piero di Cosimo, Portrait of a Woman, said to be of Simonetta Vespucci.

Thank you. We like people that love cats!

I was so focused on the presentation that I missed that. Where do you hear the crash?

thank you so much for this. don't know how I missed this?
Keep the cat as your sidekick!
Hello kitty!

P.S. Please make sure those plants aren’t poisonous to cats. I have two and no plants.
As in CondéNast?
Hard pass on any representations of The Murder of The Innocents, I would not like to walk by that painting. The Book of Hours of the Duc de Berry so beautiful, I enjoy my George Braziller copy.
