@@dr.blockcraft6633 It is neither. If you have a valid, rational assumption that entities of any kind have something to gain by monitoring you in any capacity, the definition of paranoia does not apply (irrational fear). This does not make it "smart" though. To be very general: there are 7 billion people on the planet. You are not special. To be special, you either need to be a very rich person (something to lose), or a bad person (something to lose + illegal). Note that obviously both of those definitions are in terms of the culture of the society in which you live and the time in which you live. Virtue and wealth are relative. Anyways, if you're one of those, you know it. But being "smart" is deciding what behaviors you want to execute to stop any theoretical activities. If you're rich, buy good off-grid devices etc. If you're a bad person, consider stopping the behavior. It's pretty simple. This also applies to the "what about big companies that track me", issue. Well, big companies track you to sell stuff to you. That's it. If you buy some plutonium from Mars (not actually a thing), google only cares about placing an ad on your search page for a plutonium holder and maybe suggesting brilliant to learn about nuclear reactions. *Hackers* want that data so they can *blackmail* you, steal personal data, or otherwise hurt you, and, again, you (generally) need to be in one of the above two categories for that to really matter. Trailtracker so are they saying they are Truman? He isn’t an extra though he is the star of the show hence all the product placement around him. My apologies if this has gotten lengthy. I’m quite tired and not getting the joke
@@chattychatotchannel You're way over thinking this. He clarified in his initial statement exactly what he means, "an unknowing extra in someone's Truman Show." Just because that doesn't fit exactly with the original movie doesn't make the simile any less effective, for me, at least. All he's doing is exaggerating the Truman Show, almost inception-like, implying he is so deep in the machine that he doesn't even know there is more to be known. Try some critical thinking if it still doesn't make any sense.
I work retail. Whenever I look up and out into a crowd of customers I noticed some of them looking down at a text book suddenly look up at me. Despite not looking at me, seeing me in their peripheral vision, or hearing me, people often know I’m gazing in their direction and look up and locked eyes with me. Other times something gets my attention and I look over and I’m being watched. It’s rather odd.
It's happened to me even when I have my back turned to the person staring at me from 30 ft away. I get that feeling of being watched, then I suddenly turn around. And instantly, I'm locked eyes and looking directly into the eyes of the person staring at me. I always thought it was a normal feeling everybody had. Turns out, after finally talking to other people about it, It's not.
@@Scorpio-- It's actually common, but people don't know about it. When I told my friends about it, they said it does not happen to them and that for me it was mostly a coincidence. It's mostly because when you look at someone staring at you, you don't consciously move your head in their direction, it just happens automatically, so people assume it's just a coincidence. But, when you tell them about this phenomenon and ask them why did they look directly at the person staring at them, they realise that it happens to them too. Unless people know about this phenomenon, they don't notice it, like how my friend noticed it after I had told him about this thing.
Used to be able to feel eyes watching me in my sleep, nobody saw me physically sleep for long even if they were silent, because i 'felt' they were there, my sleep wasn't very good back then, id wake up very easily. My sleep and sensitivities have gotten better, since having pets from age 18y onwards, even though i have more sets of eyes around now lol
I had that too. Then I recovered memories of being sexually abused at two and I realized the sense was a form of hypervigilance from the trauma. Maybe a trauma happened to you when you were young? I hope not but it’s possible
Only looked for this because I felt like someone or (something) was staring me down and waiting until I feel asleep to sneak up on me or take me. I was alone in my room at 10 o'clock PM after my bedtime and I just felt like I was gonna throw up and my eyes remained wide open of about 1 hour I finally got the strength to grab my pillow and go down stairs to find my mom. I asked my mom if I could sleep in her room that night and told her I felt like someone was watching me. She said yes and also told me i was crazy. I said i know how crazy i sound and started crying. I could not sleep. Got like 4 hours that night. I'm terrified to sleep in my room now. Anyone else have a similar experience?
Well every single night, I feel like something or somebody is watching me. The only weird thing is, I only get the feelings at night when I go of my phone.. even when I lay down I have to check behind me to see if I’m alone in my room or not and my stairs squeak a lot at night aswell.
yeah i feel like that all the time like i hate having to go to sleep every single night because i feel like something is watching me just standing there, silently
Obviously its because when a person shoots fire out of their eyes to see, another person can feel the warmth of the fire as it hits them and travels back to the observer, thus resulting in the observed person realizing they are being watched.
When we can't see someone, there are other clues that there is someone else around as well. There are vibrations caused by movement. There are small audio cues that can tip us off. Even sometimes smell. I was surprised when I first got married how I could feel the heat of my wife moving around the room. Also, at first, how uncomfortable having that constant heat presence was in bed. Though there are also things that can create these same cues and trick us that someone is there, when there really isn't.
Same here, I can also detect someone walking around the vicinity of my house not because I can here them but I can sense someone is coming from a certain direction, my house has a fence and the other side of that fence is a walkway to the other houses just behind ours. Also you can also feel the weight of a person around the vicinity as well. Like how my house feels lighter when its just me and my sister/brother or gramma and when my cousins are around the weight in the sorroundings feels heavy. This is why I avoid crowded places like an event because theres too much weight in the air, or maybe its just anxiety idk
Would be interesting to do these experiments when suffers of anxiety. I have chronic anxiety and I have been tested and shown I have a much wider field of vision than usual, which is truely awful when the anxiety already makes you feel like you're being watched and judged all the time
Um, no. Your 'special eyes' (wider than average peripheral vision) would not cause paranoia unless people actually were looking at you. You would just see more people.
How about those who think people are staring at them and judging even when nobody actually isn't, and the times when people think they're alone and do something embarrassing but someone was watching them all along. I don't think real gaze detection without actually seeing it is real. It's just a feeling, and sometimes we happen to be right?
I have been having the same dream about a stalker suddenly standing in front of my window, eyes crazy wide and a yellow hoodie. I just woke up from that same nightmare at 2 AM and I strongly feel like I’m being watched(I’m honestly scared)
What about those moments when you aren't paying attention to your surroundings and get that feeling, seemingly out of nowhere, and it turns out to be an animal or something. You get that creepy feeling.
popping zits is nice, i personally dont watch videos of it, but irl its satisfying to see that goo leave the body, makes me feel like i purified something like a DND healer :p
Interesting. So would someone with paranoia have a defective STS? Tricking your brain into thinking others are observing you? I'm curious cause I have BPD and pretty severe paranoia.
Mark Shanahan: Unrelated to the BPD - Do you have erratic movement patterns and are prone to sudden and explosive movements? If you move your body in less predictable ways people might actually actively look at you more than they would a normal person with a calmer and more reliable body language/movements. This is something I used to do as someone who used to have hypervigilance. People who moved too unreliably were scary to be in the same room as, because I didn't feel I could comprehend their intents well enough. I even used to be terrified of large groups because the lynch mob mentality scared the hell out of me, so the more people in a crowd that behaved in a labile manner the more the crowd stressed me out.
somtimes i go through episodes where i feel like eyes are everywhere my parinoia is often out of control, often i look around and feel like there’s eye everywhere and even on me
my theory has something to do with air pressure. when somebody is right behind you, their body pushes more air against your back. then you sense the difference and know someones behind you. that along with shadows, slight changes in noise, or slight changes in other people's faces makes it very easy to tell when I'm being followed. these can be seen as maybe a very soft rustle behind you, that can only be produced by rubbing clothing, or your hair moves a tiny bit because of their breath, or a bystander's eyes dart behind you for a second. another one is if you go into a room, if you don't hear the door close for a few seconds, someone followed you in. then you can set a trap for them. speed up a little bit, go around a corner that has more space for you to keep walking, then turn around and catch them following you around said corner. more things I didn't mention were; water ripples, light changes in a reflective object or an actual reflection of the stalker, temperature changes as maybe a fan is blocked or their body heat spreads to you. if you duck down to maybe grab something or pretend you're tying your laces, you can see them through the gap between your legs or maybe hear their shoe skid as they cant keep moving due to you blocking their path. more active ways could be just turning around everyone and then or doing a donkey kick, maybe hitting them in the process. I have it down to an art.
@@kalixkatt Indeed. I hate ads, and I watch a LOT of TH-cam, so I fork out the $9.99 a month to get rid of ads, and the TH-camrs I watch get paid. Even when they're demonetized for not being "advertiser friendly."
I use adblock because I've got viruses from ads in the past. Maybe if TH-cam cared half as much about screening the companies that pay them for ads as they do about screening out "unfamily friendly" videos from ad runs, I'd trust them enough to disable such a safety feature. But since I do not, and since most of the channels I watch are demonetized for not being aimed at 10 year olds, it seems like a pointless gesture anyways. (I can't afford $120 a year for no adds)

I quite like the theory that your subconscious has a lot more power than we understand - and that it is able to process stimuli in a different way to our conscious. i.e. you may not know there's someone behind you (as you can't see them), but the tiniest stimuli might be picked up by your subconscious (very subtle heat, noise, smell), that you otherwise won't notice, to generate that 'there's someone there' feeling. I can't remember where I was reading this, but I do also remember reading that this area is largely unknown and that this theory is simply unproven theory. It would make sense, going back to Hank's point about being 'primed' to flee potential predators (or the office manager).
Hoho! At first, I was not certain and I couldn't believe that my accuracy is occuring everyday, and I don't fear being in the dark nor when I'm alone. I became certain when there are lots of ppl looking at me unintentionally, and because of that, me and people, are shocked and are surprised everytime I feel the gaze or deep stares. And because of awareness of both me and them, of having the gaze detection, we became awkward (and now, I need to change that, haha). It is cool but frustrating at the same time: cool that I can detect eyes and perceive their thoughts; and frustrating, because it bothers me. There was an old lady, and I'm leaning at the lightpost, I don't think that someone is looking at me, because I am just chilling, the birds are singing my good evening, people are parting with the sound of their motor bikes...and my whole body suddenly jolt, and when I looked at where my vision is obstructed by the light post, I abruptly looked at where I felt the tingling and we were both surprised, but old lady seemed to shocked rather than being surprised. And from then on, old lady never looked at me again. T~T And there were people that thought they are so beautiful, even boys, that they flaunt themselves on me, and there was only one person that can understand what I'm trying to tell through my actions, and I'm thankful for that person. Still, T^T.
And I have a job, that were just my rest day. Even though I'm at work and focused on one thing, I still feel that, even though I always forgot that I have this ability, I still feel it. I need to forget everything first and just focus on one thing so my mind does not wander.
Dang, I thought this was going to explain the phenomenon where you look up from something (studying, reading, doing a task) right at someone who is looking at you. Meaning, they're not in your peripheral vision, and there's no reason to look directly at the person, versus any other place in the room. It's not even a feeling of being watched. You just kind of involuntarily do it. I've had it happen the opposite way, too - be looking at a person doing a task, out of their peripheral vision, and they'll look up right at me. Maybe it's a law of large numbers thing. I don't pay attention to all the times that I looked up from something in public and no one was looking at me. But I do remember those instances, because it feels eerie, and a little embarrassing for the person caught staring.
I experienced this phenomenon several times myself. A typical example would be that I'm in my car, driving. Stopped about 2 cars behind a traffic light junction, I spotted a person (could be a he or a she, but will use 'she' for this example) with some peculiar trait that caught my eye. Perhaps she has unique hair color, or some form of special clothes she wore, or the way she walked. Whatever it was, it caught my attention and while gazing at her, she was in my mind at that point in time, and amazingly, this same pedestrian turns and gazes directly at me. No words were spoken and I didn't do anything special. There's no way she would knew I was thinking about her (or rather, about that special thing that caught my attention). Why is that? I experienced this many times. Whenever I had some stranger that I see on the streets in my mind, somehow, my thought travelled to him and something made him turn towards me, as if he knew I was the one who has my thoughts on him. In other situations, I found that I could make somebody sneeze just by thinking about them. Weird right? And you can't do this on purpose, the thought must come naturally and at the spur of the moment. If it's forced, nothing happens. anybody else experience the same?
Marcin Pasternacki oh yeah I don’t want you to be muddled I am not calling you a baby but rather saying it in a silly way as if it was a song. Anxiety is tough and I hope it gets better and wish you a lovely day
Still doesn't explain the phenomenon of feeling someone looking at you. Seeing where their eyes are looking is a completely different thing! I've been at rock concerts, massive raves, burning man, etc. I can feel when somebody is burning a hole in the side of my head. In a sea of thousands, I would turn and put my hands up like "WHAT?!" Sometimes they look away, others times they came up to me and asked how could you feel us staring at you? I don't know? It feels like in Donnie darko when those watery, tubes come out of people. I just feel it latch on to my energy. Like there is a pull. I can't explain it better than that which is even more frustrating than experiencing it.
I once saw a video with neat (but kinda crazy) idea about electromagnetic fields around living things that your brain can subtly pick up on. It seems a bit dubious, but it could explain some very weird instances of people being able to detect other people in situations where they shouldn't be able to! And also why it's only ever a "vague weird feeling" that is sometimes inaccurate.
what about when you don't even know that there is someone near you and you look where you think that there's someone watching you and you find him starting
I was walking home from school today and I felt like I was just floating through the streets, and I felt like someone in the sky was watching me and everyone in their cars was looking at me. Sometimes I feel like someone or something is constantly watching me and I have to put on an act. I didn’t even watch this whole video but it’s weird that TH-cam would recommend me this after what happened today.
I have a few band posters and printed off pics of my fave famous people taped up in the place where I sleep and when I go in there to go to bed I feel like I'm being watched. When I was growing up I thought that pictures of people could see and were watching me and it continued for years but I eventually grew out of it at last and I'm fine now.
Yep that is why I am paranoid but I’m not wrong I mean I’ve been stalked and sometimes I see people looking at my moves from the corner of my eye I can tell when someone is studying it gets really annoying but I know that is how humans work
i hate feeling like this. even when on the toilet or using my phone i feel watched, last night in bed i got goosebumps on my neck and felt like something was going to jump up from my bed and scare me, i always feel watched and absolutely hate it.
this does not explain when you are use to walking in a crowded city and there are people behind you and it does not bother you except on rare occasions when you know one of these people are staring at you for some reason.
Whenever I’m playing video games I feel like somebody watches me from behind me. My gaming setup is right next my staircase, sometimes I feel like it’s ready to kill me and throw me downstairs. Yea I do hear noises around the house, I’ve seen lots of figures.. It’s like some type of cult in black.. They all stand next to eachother, straight looking at me. Then another time I felt something grab my leg. I pulled away quickly and looked down but nothings there
same...i always see black shadows i feel like someone is staring at me everytime i walk around my house i feel like someone is behind me i have panic attacks i scared of mirros beacause i feel like someone is watching me from in the mirror i have hallucination and i also have anxiety so that makes it even worse
Heres the thing, i have the fear that im being watched, or that if im getting ready to take a shower, im not getting ready to take a shower and im really just undressing in public but i dont know and everyone thinks im sick. I havent been able to shower or use the restroom without feeling a big sense of shame for a month now
I believe that it’s tied into survival mechanisms. To help sense when a predator could be around. If you watch animal channels, you’ll notice that the prey starts to feel nervous shortly before being attacked.
That does not explain how I can catch people staring at me even in a crowd when I am very short and thus their view blocked. Yet they are and I catch them.
This explains whenever someone is within your peripheral vision although it does not explain when someone is behind you orsay behind a one-way mirror and looking at you with the camera remotely...
Man I hear sounds in my hallway, one time I locked my door but it opened. I literally peek in every corner to see if there’s someone there. Or I just lock myself in my room.
Doesn't explain why EVERY time I get the feeling I'm being watched I turn around to see someone staring right at me. I've seen other people do the same, was looking for someone in an airport terminal with hundreds of people, saw him walking away and the instant my eyes hit him he turned; looked right at me; walked toward me and spoke directly to me. Someone I had never even met before, he didn't know me; I didn't know him but I knew what he looked like. Explain that.
I always feel like someone is watching me and someone is going to kill me even though I know no one is there but I’m always paranoid that something is there
I feel like I'm being watched at random times even when I'm alone. Tbf I have poor eyesight and I need new glasses but in the dark and when everything is silent it's particularly bad. I suffer paranoia anyway so this can trigger episodes of checking locks a few times and jumping at every noise thinking there's an intruder. Then the more I think about the noises I'm aware that I'm less aware of my surroundings and an intruder can use that to get me, so there's this growing sense of panic until I find a trusted human or am confident I'm safe either through locking doors or turning on every light. Even when I go to bed at night I run up the stairs when I turn the lights off and have checked the doors up to 4 times per night on bad nights. Usually once or twice. If I think I hear someone outside I have to go check the locks again or lay awake listening for other sounds for a good half hour before I can sleep.

It's a sixth sense, ever been on the train then suddenly you feel the need to look up and someone is staring right at you? That's telekinesis, Kyle...
A) not possible
B) telekinesis is the ability to move objects with your mind, not knowing if someone is looking at you or not.
@@Bleepbleepblorbus he meant telepathy. And while limited and not as cool as in movies, it is possible.

Hey you know how we see stuff that isn't there at night? That may be what is happening. So if you don't have a TV on turn it on.
Obviously its because when a person shoots fire out of their eyes to see, another person can feel the warmth of the fire as it hits them and travels back to the observer, thus resulting in the observed person realizing they are being watched.
But how does one see in total darkness when ones eyes are LIT upon the subjects? 🔥🤔
@@idiotsandwichthe1st what? youre telling me you cant shoot fire out of your eyes?
When we can't see someone, there are other clues that there is someone else around as well.
There are vibrations caused by movement.
There are small audio cues that can tip us off.
Even sometimes smell.
I was surprised when I first got married how I could feel the heat of my wife moving around the room. Also, at first, how uncomfortable having that constant heat presence was in bed.
Though there are also things that can create these same cues and trick us that someone is there, when there really isn't.

Also you can also feel the weight of a person around the vicinity as well. People who moved too unreliably were scary to be in the same room as, because I didn't feel I could comprehend their intents well enough. my theory has something to do with air pressure.
when somebody is right behind you, their body pushes more air against your back. then you sense the difference and know someones behind you.
that along with shadows, slight changes in noise, or slight changes in other people's faces makes it very easy to tell when I'm being followed.
these can be seen as maybe a very soft rustle behind you, that can only be produced by rubbing clothing, or your hair moves a tiny bit because of their breath, or a bystander's eyes dart behind you for a second.
another one is if you go into a room, if you don't hear the door close for a few seconds, someone followed you in.
then you can set a trap for them. speed up a little bit, go around a corner that has more space for you to keep walking, then turn around and catch them following you around said corner.
more things I didn't mention were; water ripples, light changes in a reflective object or an actual reflection of the stalker, temperature changes as maybe a fan is blocked or their body heat spreads to you.
if you duck down to maybe grab something or pretend you're tying your laces, you can see them through the gap between your legs or maybe hear their shoe skid as they cant keep moving due to you blocking their path.
more active ways could be just turning around everyone and then or doing a donkey kick, maybe hitting them in the process.
I have it down to an art.
I have similar thoughts too

So our brain picking up noise and thinking something it there is special to you? It's not, and we know that.
...but when they're watching you with a hidden camera...
T~T
And there were people that thought they are so beautiful, even boys, that they flaunt themselves on me, and there was only one person that can understand what I'm trying to tell through my actions, and I'm thankful for that person.
Still, T^T.
And I have a job, that were just my rest day. Even though I'm at work and focused on one thing, I still feel that, even though I always forgot that I have this ability, I still feel it. I need to forget everything first and just focus on one thing so my mind does not wander.

This is so useful to know!
I think modern living has dulled down senses evolved that were paramount to survival in prehistoric times.
I suffers from Social Anxiety and Paranoia, the feeling of someone still watches you when you are in a completly void space is real
But I do remember those instances, because it feels eerie, and a little embarrassing for the person caught staring.
when someone, especially children stare at me, i get a massive amount of anxiety... it kickstarts my fight or flight response.
Stop looking at me, swan!
I feel like I'm being watched, especially when something embarrassing is happening.

Sometimes I feel like something is watching me from the shadows of a room when im alone at night.
I always feel like I’m being watched by people I like so I always have to not do certain things
I mean idk what it’s called but I feel watched when I know I’m alone it’s annoying

I was walking home from school today and I felt like I was just floating through the streets, and I felt like someone in the sky was watching me and everyone in their cars was looking at me. Having that feeling makes me uncomfortable and make me less confident
Next time you're in a store with someone who's high... whisper, "Everyone's staring at you."
So.. Gazedar?

Doesn't explain why EVERY time I get the feeling I'm being watched I turn around to see someone staring right at me. I've seen other people do the same, was looking for someone in an airport terminal with hundreds of people, saw him walking away and the instant my eyes hit him he turned; looked right at me; walked toward me and spoke directly to me. Someone I had never even met before, he didn't know me; I didn't know him but I knew what he looked like. Explain that.
Thanks SciShow
It just makes sense evolutionarily.
