Standing still and pretending I'm recording a panoramic video must be my favorite cheatcode in the streets. Phone "documenting" is so normal these days that you're virtually invisible by the daily pedestrian, specially when you act like a tourist by doing that.
Awesome video. I am a real estate agent specializing in residential home sales. I do my own photography and I primarily use my iPhone for the photos, because the photos often turn out better than my $3,000 Nikon SLR. I even have a lot of other agent ask me who I use for my photos. I bought the OnePlus Open and used it to photograph a home a few days ago and I was blown away with how much better the pics look vs my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Like you, I also use Snapseed directly on the Open's main display then export to my computer.
I've watched every possible review of the One Plus Open so far and I can say for sure this video it's on a totally different level. Tech reviewers could learn a thing or two from you.
I second you guys! This is the best review on the OnePlus Open thus far! Makes you appreciate the effort OnePlus & Oppo put into making this incredible device!
The other reviews aren't wrong, this guy want to say to you is even with galaxy S7 you can take a very nice photo , but the iPhone and s23ultra is another level in quality but you also can do it nice in OnePlus in some situation, but OnePlus is a little bit disappointed on camera if you come from s23,iPhone or pixel 😉
Excellent content, I've just sold my iPhone 15 Pro Max to purchase this phone and it's phenomenal. The photography has blown me away. The sharpness and colour accuracy, is something that I appreciate from a mobile camera, and this year the iPhone just didn't have it.
ordered mine the moment the launch event finished! thank you for shooting in pro mode, i usually shoot with my phone in pro mode and most of the reviews so far have just been auto which def needs some optimization for that main sensor in bright scenarios i think
Impressive I have to say. Between the sound of the background music, the voice, dialog, photos, the attention to detail in the presentation, and wrapping it all up into a review is like I was watching a much better version of a presentation done by the manufacturers at their unveiling events. Very well done and engaging. Kudos.
I didn't know photos from a smartphone could look like that. The images don't have that post-processed look that I've seen from most photos from a phone, is it because it's being shot in RAW here?
Great video....I'm seriously considering this phone to replace my S23 Ultra. This video has put to rest my concerns about the quality of the photos, which was my sticking point. See, I owned a Oneplus 11 but returned it only because of the inconsistencies of the camera. My S23 Ultra went on an extended trip to CapeTown and produced over 1200 phenomenal images. I never took my Fuji X100F out of the suitcase. I have since switched from the Fuji X mount system to the Nikon Z system, however, to shoot on impulse and not be geared out, this could be the winner. Thank for the video and your insight........
Great video and great phone! And Snapseed is also great. I have been using it almost daily for about 4 years now (I take pictures almost daily as a hobby, well over 100 thousand every year). Oh and: I found your channel thank’s to this video. And subscribed.
This was the most beautiful review I have ever seen. Watched from the first second to the very last. Beautiful. You are also an amazing photographer. Beautiful shots ❤
If this is what OnePlus is delivering with their foldable I'm very excited about waiting for the OnePlus 12 coming next year and I'm ready! This technology from Oppo coming to their phones is going to pay off big time! Thanks for such a dope walkthrough.
great review. Im most interested in the RAW modes anyway you can share some raw files? Oh yeah on my iPhone 15 Pro Max and my Google Pixel 8 Pro while shooting in RAW they all have a "lag" from shot to shot.
Love your work and your perspective. Quite unique. The camera options are pretty impressive. I wonder whether the video option is on par as well. The big plus in my opinion is the screen. Using snapseed looks cool. I’ll bet that Adobe LR would run fine as well. How about video editing on this thing? I think that would be so much fun as well.
Loved your take on this device! I'm working a similar pixel 8 pro video and I'm just consistently impressed with the quality of mobile files these days especially when shooting raw. Like you said, I find myself shooting more often with my phone due to the versatility and stealth factor. Looking forward to more tech reviews from you!
Nice job with the OnePlus vid, Faizal. I’ve been shooting street with the phone for about 14 years, and have thoroughly enjoyed and embraced the journey. Thanks for sharing your view.
Hi, thank you for this review. I have a OP6 and I really love it but I need more from the photo's side... Is the OP open able to take HDR images like Ultra HDR from Pixel or Smart HDR from Iphone ?
Use my phone as a backup, and probably way too often. Particularly in the winter months in the NE I don't bring my camera because my fingers don't function well in the cold! I am about to check out the OnePlus Open, that sounds very cool and functional as well. To be able to actually see the screen would be wonderful.
Did you try the xpan mode? I was really hoping to see that covered from a photographers pov in this review 😢 Great review overall, but selfishly I’d love to know your thoughts on that. I love the aspect ratio to be able to tell dramatic stories. Tired of cropping after the fact, even though I know the software is doing the same thing…. Plus the ability to be able to frame and compose the shot with that view before taking it, would be nice. I don’t think I’ll ever own a true xpan film cam and currently have no interest in full frame or medium format options that are available in digital options. Was hoping a one plus device that supports it could scratch the itch in a street able format to boot
Great video Faizal! I think now that most smartphones are getting higher res sensors they're able to be treated more as dedicated point and shoots. I have always felt like the main difference between a dedicated point and shoot and cell phone photos were fidelity (lens sharpness, resolution, dynamic range) and color and it seems like many manufacturers are starting to close that gap. I'm hoping to find a similarly in depth video of the oneplus 12 as I'm considering buying one, if you made one I'd gladly watch it!
HI, I'm having an issues with the recent upgrade. The Mater Mode will only shoot in JPEG or RAW not both. Also When I set it to RAW. It keeps resetting back to JPEG when I reopen the camera. Is this the case for everyone?
Thank you for this gorgeous and insightful approach to the photography use case of this device. I picked up the 1+ Open for the foldable screen use case, never suspecting that the photos would be so damn good. Lucious bokeh, gorgeous light painting. Thank you brother
Faizal, it was so nice to see you "switch things up", as you said. When newer phones are released, could you please do camera reviews on those, as well? I watch phone camera reviews from my other favourite tech reviewers, but yours have a really relaxed feel, as well as being technical at the same time.
Finally someone who understands what the OnePlus open hardware is all about, not just photographing in auto mode against the sun to show that "the dynamic range sucks" or shooting random objects with no composition, no technique, nothing to showcase the real potential of this camera hardware. I'm so sick of seeing comparisons with other phones where they just point in a random direction and then say "this phone is better than the other because look how the highlights are blown out and the shadows are so dark etc." even though that's how a real camera works. If you want good shots you have to put in the work, that's what camera reviews should focus on, showing how you can achieve amazong content with a phone. And it's not even that much work to begin with, like you're example with Snapseed, that's like preschool level learning curve lol. The colors and depth in the shots you took is amazing for a smartphone, almost like the shots I take with my Sony rx100 V. Getting this phone may make my compact camera obsolete lol.
This video was incredible, you're so talented. I've had the OnePlus for a year now and I do not get good results. I used to take great product shots and action sport videos with my Samsung galaxy note and ultra phones and fill 1TB quickly but everything I take on the OnePlus is weak so I hardly use it anymore.
Great looking phone. How do you protect it, considering the folding design? Or protect those high-end lenses? The case for my S22Ultra has a sliding door to cover the lenses. I've taken great shots with it and I'm glad the lenses aren't subjected to my jacket pocket or backpack.
Faizal, i simply loved watching this vdo! Honestly yours is way better than those techy reviews. I just have one question for you, and its really really important for me :) How is the front/selfie cameras on this device please 🙏
Hi Faizal, great video and photos. 😎👏 I have a question please, I take a lot of macro images and macro video for Instagram reels. I photograph a lot of small coins, artefacts and small objects. Does the One Plus Open have a dedicated macro photo & macro video mode with auto focus at all please? Any feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks
nice looking phone. I often have said to my wife, that apple should have made the iPad mini into a iPhone. Perfect size for more surface for doing more stuff comfortability that I don't care to do on a pro or pro max. Guess they need to see how to make it fold. lol
I started following you in 2018 when i started doing street. Back then i also had the 6t. Still have it today. I recently broke my 9 pro because of the curved screen. Love to see you colab with OnePlus. Awesome brand
I'm glad Oneplus got this out to actual photographers. Was losing my mind at some of the tech reviewers' opinions on the camera system. I knew I needed a different perspective when one preferred Samsing's overstauration and face filters on selfies.
I have the open since 3 weeks the photo are bad vs my iphone 14 pro max do you have tips to use it right because in your photo a lot are in black and white or retouched so i hope oneplus will make a upgrade because with the spec the photo are bad and i think the phone have more potential
Phone photos look good on phones. Maybe that changed with more recent phones, but I personally hate the experience of taking photos with a phone. I always have a fuji x100v or x-pro3 on me so I never think of my phone as a camera. Actually I use it to record videos of my daughter sometimes, which is quicker than activating the video mode on my fuji 😂
Bought for my wife. We both are very impressed with the phone and will be heading on a cruise next week. Can't wait to take some pics with her phone. Great video and review and was great to see Boston pics as a fellow Masshole😂😅😂. Thanks
Looks great, and I’m in the market for a new phone, but I’d be worried about dropping major coin on a phone that doesn’t have the long term software update support of an iPhone or a Pixel. Any idea how long OnePlus will support this for?
Great story telling man good honest review, I have been in denial about my a7r3, its unbeatable I say, but the oneplus is shhhh just as good I cant believe I am saying that omg.. I have seen your video 3 times.
That’s why I don’t like « tech enthusiasts » like MKBHD/LTT/etc reviewing and ordering phone by their cameras by pixel peeping. I really prefer having the though of a real photographer to actually judge what a phone can do. And those pictures are gorgeous. The rest of the people won’t see the difference or care between that or an iPhone or a Samsung…
I have used my S22 Ultra for street photos at times, but not very often. Usually just when I'm in an unexpected situation without another camera. Not really interested in folding phones as I would prefer not to have the bulk. I'm still amazed at the great images that we can create with these handy pocket devices.
Faizal has been sold! But one plus is dope! But bendable stuff is brokable as sheaty! We've awaitin some cool, chill, smthng about lenses, bro - for Fuji!~
Thanks for sharing. For me, there are some major disadvantages of using a phone for street photography: it's hard to shoot photos from the hip; if the camera and screen are working, the phone discharges quickly; and last but not least, the image is just not so clean and crisp as from a "normal" camera. Phone sensors are getting better indeed, but compared to a camera hanging on a neck, a phone is less usable for me, at least from a "readiness" and a battery life perspective. But as a photo challenge, it can be interesting to push a phone to its limits, why not :)
It is a sad state when you carry a camera around even a small point and shoot, the camera is what people notice. I don't know how many times *in Boston* I been told I can not film with a camera, but a phone you can!!!??? Anyways, Great video and interesting topic. Thanks for sharing!
My OnePlus 6t is still going. Got it cus i needed to save money at the time and its a very nice solid phone, but i definitely sacrificed on the camera end. Now that my 6t is showing its age with lag and restarts im starting to think its in its last days, so now im considering a phone with a true flagship camera, either galaxy s23 Ultra or Iphone 15 Pro Max. But having a tablet in your pocket really draws me towards foldables. Ill keep researching, but OnePlus is very close to keeping my business, if i can be confident in the screen durability and the camera (both still and video).
I wish this had the samsung ecosystem and the pen would be more available and with the EMR technology. Then I'd get this instantly. Otherwise I'd have to go with fold 5/6.. eh..
Black and white is not convincing..also, is there the same camera in a not foldable phone? I'm afraid that anyway ain't phone that can deliver better than any apsc camera. How can you destroy your pictures using Snapseed?? Its an app good for really lowe level editing 😅😅
Nice photos! I am having a hard time choosing between this phone and iPhone Pro Max. This review definitely helps a lot. Another thing that is hard not to notice is that tons of ROC flags are hanging there with US national flags, which is super weird to me cause ROC is a dead government for a long long time...

Standing still and pretending I'm recording a panoramic video must be my favorite cheatcode in the streets. Phone "documenting" is so normal these days that you're virtually invisible by the daily pedestrian, specially when you act like a tourist by doing that.
get a ricoh gr instead!
@@Maxhster hahaha true!!!
it's much more easy shoot with a phone in a crowd. Like underground or bus, busy street or something with a lack of spare space
dont use it
Never thought I'd see a vid from Faizal and MKBHD on the same topic. And if I'm being honest, I liked Faizal's coverage way, way more.
I totally agree, seen so many videos from photographer's praising the open for it's pictures
You're bang on. I like MKBHD but Faizal's style is really good too. A better review and perspective on this phone.
I would think Faizal would be more descriptive about the Open cameras because he's a photographer by trade, makes sense
Awesome video. I am a real estate agent specializing in residential home sales. I do my own photography and I primarily use my iPhone for the photos, because the photos often turn out better than my $3,000 Nikon SLR. I even have a lot of other agent ask me who I use for my photos. The hasselblad colours you get from the raw plus option is truly stunning and something that isn’t talked about a lot.
Loved this video! Really amazed to see how smartphone photography has actually evolved. Thanks for the video & and excellent captures Faizal!
ordered mine the moment the launch event finished! thank you for shooting in pro mode, i usually shoot with my phone in pro mode and most of the reviews so far have just been auto which def needs some optimization for that main sensor in bright scenarios i think
The 10-bit color shots look unreal! (or more real haha). More companies should get on board with that.
Impressive I have to say. Between the sound of the background music, the voice, dialog, photos, the attention to detail in the presentation, and wrapping it all up into a review is like I was watching a much better version of a presentation done by the manufacturers at their unveiling events. As someone who only has a phone to do my street photography right now, I really think the OnePlus Open could be a game changer.
I didn't know photos from a smartphone could look like that. The images don't have that post-processed look that I've seen from most photos from a phone, is it because it's being shot in RAW here?
I really loved the photos you took with this phone. I also had OnePlus 6T, but I exchanged it with pixel3; I miss the pro mode.

Literally every time I watch one of your videos man, it fills my inspiration level back up to max.
Such good work! Absolutely admire what you do

So sick to see you work with OnePlus! also a proud previous owner of a 6t. I just wish I wasn’t so trapped in the apple ecosystem
Loved your video. I just wondering should I get a lens protector for the camera bump? Thanks
If this is what OnePlus is delivering with their foldable I'm very excited about waiting for the OnePlus 12 coming next year and I'm ready! This technology from Oppo coming to their phones is going to pay off big time! Thanks for such a dope walkthrough.

It's good to see an honest review on a foldable smart phone from a proper photographer to get a balanced view on the cameras from an expert 👍
Thank you for this gorgeous and insightful approach to the photography use case of this device. I picked up the 1+ Open for the foldable screen use case, never suspecting that the photos would be so damn good.
Lucious bokeh, gorgeous light painting.

Should I get a lens protector for the camera bump?
9:33 first good use case I've heard for a (large) folding phone!
its been awhile since you posted this. How's the overall quality of the phone? Anu issues? How's the inside screen doing?
Finally someone who understands what the OnePlus open hardware is all about, not just photographing in auto mode against the sun to show that "the dynamic range sucks" or shooting random objects with no composition, no technique, nothing to showcase the real potential of this camera hardware. Love the coverage but i feel like you should have more clearly disclosed that you were working with Oneplus to promote this device
So true. This is basically an advertisement.
Does the Open pick the best shot out of a burst, like the Pixels?
I would like to buy it after this video but the phone has amoled screen with pwm flickering
I hear there’s an XPan mode on this! Would have loved to see it.
Great looking phone. How do you protect it, considering the folding design? Or protect those high-end lenses? The case for my S22Ultra has a sliding door to cover the lenses. I've taken great shots with it and I'm glad the lenses aren't subjected to my jacket pocket or backpack.
The lens glass is Sapphire glass which is very durable. Its the same as on the apple watch ultra.
you should do more phone camera reviews if you enjoy !!! Absolute gold content
This was a great video on the OP Open! I love to see it in action. This was very informative!
Really fantastic video. Thank you for going deep and really showing of the images and work possible with this phone.
Faizal, i simply loved watching this vdo! Honestly yours is way better than those techy reviews. I just have one question for you, and its really really important for me :) How is the front/selfie cameras on this device please 🙏
sweet. Tips: just go out and practice :)
Hi Faizal, great video and photos. 😎👏
I have a question please, I take a lot of macro images and macro video for Instagram reels. I photograph a lot of small coins, artefacts and small objects. Does the One Plus Open have a dedicated macro photo & macro video mode with auto focus at all please? Any feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks
hello bro can you tell me 4k 120fps recording 4k 60fps and FHD 120fps and 60 fps
nice looking phone. I often have said to my wife, that apple should have made the iPad mini into a iPhone. Perfect size for more surface for doing more stuff comfortability that I don't care to do on a pro or pro max. Guess they need to see how to make it fold. lol
Is anyone else owning this phone having problems with the X3 or x6 being out of focus on long distances? But fine with close up?

This is the type of content I’m here for🙏🏾🔥💯
Can u please upload raw files?
Looks great, and I’m in the market for a new phone, but I’d be worried about dropping major coin on a phone that doesn’t have the long term software update support of an iPhone or a Pixel. Any idea how long OnePlus will support this for?
4 years
4 OS updates and 5 years of security updates
Never had a foldable phone and I pulled the trigger on this one.... all the reviews ive seen have been nothing but positive!
4:16 I took the “same”photo few weeks ago, just different composition! My phone photos are always bad though😂 I hope I can bump into you someday!
I'm too broke to buy a camera so I just use my phone and it works great! I got the Moment add on lenses(18 and 58mm) and they're amazing.
Wow! Oneplus have really upped their camera game. I'm really tempted.
Excellent narrative & review. Subbed!
I have used my S22 Ultra for street photos at times, but not very often. Usually just when I'm in an unexpected situation without another camera. Not really interested in folding phones as I would prefer not to have the bulk. I'm still amazed at the great images that we can create with these handy pocket devices.
My first smartphone was a samsung galaxy in 2011. The second one was a oneplus 2. Using a oneplus 9 now with a few changes in between.
Got this phone and i love photography. The cameras are amazing. Go and get this phone!
Image quality of this camera is pretty similar to my Xperia Mark V.
Faizal has been sold! But one plus is dope! But bendable stuff is brokable as sheaty! We've awaitin some cool, chill, smthng about lenses, bro - for Fuji!~
I am in love with this oneplus fold ❤i wa t to cry😢
Loved the review! I was so excited for the release, but it seems to be getting some mixed reviews. Now I'm a bit on the fence...
Why do your recent videos look like a little bit underexposed? Is this a post-production decision or intentionally underexposed from the beginning?
agree
this phone from my country 😁
Thanks for sharing. Amazing video.
Thanks for your thoughts 💭
Incredible presentation in this video
If I take photos while on tablet view full open I will surely look like a grandpa using his tablet for whatsapp video calls 😂😂😂
nice work!
Yap, wanna see something like "one day with "1+ open"
thank you anyway
Cool video mate , thanks !
Seeing that you were right next to Monica’s instantly has me craving an Italian with extra hots
Great video ❤❤❤
Nice review, thank you
Black and white is not convincing..also, is there the same camera in a not foldable phone? I'm afraid that anyway ain't phone that can deliver better than any apsc camera. How can you destroy your pictures using Snapseed?? Its an app good for really lowe level editing 😅😅
If I had this phone/camera for a year, 50/50 I'd drop it on the concrete
Great Fotos 👏
if you review, and it doesnt look good, dont be afraid of shooting again.
Nice photos! I am having a hard time choosing between this phone and iPhone Pro Max. This review definitely helps a lot.
Another thing that is hard not to notice is that tons of ROC flags are hanging there with US national flags, which is super weird to me cause ROC is a dead government for a long long time...
Nice presentation ❤
I use my phone for street photos when I don't have anything else with me *OR* I really don't want to be noticed.

Very nice, but a rather debilitating price tag… 1800 euro’s is a bit too rich for my blood.
1 year later, price tag not so bad
