Hi I’m Matt Lockey, welcome to my Coach Lockey TH-cam Channel. This TH-cam channel is designed to help you play better golf, and to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf course vlogs, golf challenges, golf tips, golf lessons, golf club reviews and the odd golf club unboxing. So pretty much everything golf!
I want to help you play better golf by providing coaching videos on all topics about golf. How to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
As well as helping you produce the best long game you can have, I will help you lower your scores by chipping better, stopping duff and thin chips, pitching the ball closer and creating backspin like the tour pros. Finally, I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts too!

I finally just made a grip change after 20 yrs of playing. Always did the baseball grip but it was time for a change. I've gone to reverse overlap (left index finger over right pinky) because it never felt natural having my little finger over the bigger one. Finally used to it after a summer of playing quite a bit and I really like it for the consistency it gives. I've also been trying to strengthen my grip, especially with the driver. I had one lesson with a pro when I was playing in high school nearly 20 yrs ago. He really didn't help one bit. I'd like to get one now though, especially with all the data available these days.

Yes, Golf lesson started on course (just played a round with the pro), then worked extensively on chipping for three lessons.
Like the in depth discussion on this one. Have traditionally been more neutral with my grip, but this season I started to get into a stronger grip. So far, so good, though can still open the face if need be, so clearly not as strong as someothers.

  • @jasondevine5779
    @jasondevine5779 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

You advised me a few weeks ago to weaken my grip to eliminate my snap hook.
That combined with opening up my lead foot a little more has made my path much more neutral, improved my swing speed, efficiency and given me a massive increase in distance with my long clubs.
    Much thanks Coach!

Watching this made me think of the many Nick Faldo tips he gives to influence shot shape. Lockey is just getting down to the granular technicals. e.g.
Faldo says you should play with your follow-throughs. Like try finish with low hands, or high hands, or a chicken wing.
Lockey is just showing us what those movements can cause to your wrist angles. Like a low hands follow-through could cause you to bow your wrist and create a low draw (a weapon in your bag!)
    Brilliant stuff. Thanks Lockey.
To answer the question. I've had many lessons and they are 90% driver focused. It's a club I'm not usually confident with on the course so I try and give it attention off the course until I'm confident. Strike and trying to hit bombs are my usual problems 😂

Nice common-sense explanation of the grip and wrist angles. I hadn't really thought much about varying the shaft lean until now. Cheers Bruh.
    I've been for 2 lessons.
First one, I wanted a putting lesson. The pro asked me to hit a 7 iron while he video'd me. After half an hour, he told me I had a great iron swing. Took 3 putts and sank them all. He said there was nothing wrong with my putting.
Second lesson (different pro), I wanted a driver lesson. The pro asked me to hit a 7 iron. After half an hour, he told me I had a great iron swing. Told me to work on my weight transfer with the driver (without seeing my driver swing).
My next lesson, I'm going to ask for a 7 iron lesson. I'll probably learn how to knit jumpers.

Golf lessons, in Indonesia as 11 year old, I had lessons from the pro at the course. He spoke no English, I spoke no Indonesian. I learned by doing and being corrected somehow. He must have had the patience of a saint. Golf rules and behavior I learned from a Swede who lived near us. To this day, people who cheat or damage things or fail to repair ball marks drive me crazy. The few face to face lessons I have had from pros didn't stick. Mostly I learn from books (Swing Machine Golf-Paul Wilson) and understanding comes from TH-cam (Mark Crossfield, You, Matt Fryer). I just need to play more.

I'm trying to have a golf lesson about once a month. Last lesson was a driver lesson, figured out a 'feeling' to chase on the course and started gaining a few shots on my HDCP. Current strokes gained weakness is approach, but that's due to some terrible iron striking so I'll be working on that in my lesson a couple of weeks
