  • In the fourth episode of The Bold Bunch, our 5-part series in association with The Quint, #RheaKapoor, the producer of films like Aisha, Khoobsurat, and Veere Di Wedding, talks to Rajeev Masand about the privilege of being born to #AnilKapoor and why she didn’t want to be the cliche that is the star’s spoilt brat offspring. Rhea talks about wanting to make the kind of movies she and her sister #SonamKapoor grew up watching, she explains why she didn’t recast her film when her leading lady #KareenaKapoor became pregnant, and insists she wants to continue making films with women at the center.

    Veerey was really poor depiction of friendship.. Characters weren't built properly.. Their pride on the film shows that they are self obsessed.. You want to portray brave young women with money and beauty and swag.. Then make them more capable with a better storyline.. Veerey and Khoobsurat both were bad films.. Make a good movie madam.. Looking forward to it

    I didn't think Khooobsurat was a good film but I really like what she said about the character not having a makeover to win over a prince like in all other fairytales, that's a strong message which I didn't get at the time. It's still a bad film though (lolz). I did enjoy VDW very much. Yes it had it's flaws but so what? It was so empowering to see a bunch of ladies putting it all out there and it was thoroughly entertaining. Rhea is a cool chick.

    It's not the nepotism that bugs me but the people supporting it and portraying as if they are self made. There was no real woman empowerment in the kind of films she produced. She needs to observe woman at grassroot level outside of her elite circles to truly understand the problems they face day to day.

      Vignesh Shankar veere de wedding was a cheap copy of sex and the city which never reflected Indian culture but she says as if it was her original idea. Does she think we are all idiots ?

      J2 S2 all I am saying that the characters were not original since they were copied from another sitcom and I did live like that when I left India 20 years ago not 200 years ago

    • @shelinapatel9886
      @shelinapatel9886 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      J2 S2 never mind you won’t understand what I am trying to say. Maybe these characters represent 10 percent of the population but in reality 90 percent of population live a very simple lives traveling in local train, dealing with every day struggles, raising families etc.

    • @shelinapatel9886
      @shelinapatel9886 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      J2 S2 there are lot of us who live outside India does not mean that we cannot have our views. We respect our roots and please don’t reply to this comment and let’s end this conversation since it’s difficult to argue with defensive people. We could have agreed to disagree but
      I guess not 🙏🏽

    I didn't know that was the message behind a below average film like Khoobsoorat. Listening to her, it feels like she has a good reason behind putting a film forward with a good message but somehow the message just doesn't come across. All her films are just bloated in scale and appreciation but not in substance! I like her, hope she wraps in a good film where the message comes across and not everything else!

    • @saumyasinghs
      @saumyasinghs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Miss Mohan haha I agree... She's probably taken charity begins at home too seriously! I bet if she experiments with some rather better actors, her films might look better. I purposely avoid using the word 'do better' coz these days bad films do end up making money sometimes!

      I don't think it was total "crap" during the times when movies like Total Dhamaal, Race 3, and Thugs of Hindustan. At least it was able to make a profit unlike the latter two. Maybe now more producers will be willing to make a chance on an all-women movie that celebrates female-friendship.

    So I'd seen one of the roundtables where this woman wouldn't let others speak. Also, while other people were talking about craft, she was rambling about her dad, her siblings. However this 10 min interview has given a better insight.
    She is less annoying than Sonam for sure. She may have made mediocre choices in the movies so far, but you gotta admit that at least in Khoobsoorat the female protagonist was unapologetic about her eccentricity! Veere was almost borderline cringey, but maybe, in the near future this girl's movies are gonna get better. She is clear that she wants to make women centric films, and that too with no agenda, just normal slice of life kinda films. I am totally on board with her ideas. Because we don't have that kind of films. Last I recall, we had Tumhari Sulu, which was brilliant.

      J2 S2 how can you help someone who doesn’t want to be helped? Sometimes women complain to be heard not take action. It depends if she’s willing to do it for real then I’m the first to help but we can’t be wasting time flip flopping - you have to fight for your rights if you want to keep them

    I think people here are unable to understand the challenges of budget if it is a women-centric film, not being taken seriously as a Producer just because it's a female, and she just said in the interview about not getting insurance. Yes, I agree that she can improve on choosing good scripts because everything else in her films become the talking points (fashion, music etc.) except the script.

    Mr. Rajeev, why did you invite this depressed woman on your show? Who is she? Is it just because she is Anil Kapoor's daughter?? You should've interviewed him rather than this so-called woman who has done nothing in her life. Nepotism has ruined Bollywood, there are so many talented people out there and you chose her? Shame on you, man. The producer of films like Aisha, Khoobsurat, and Veere Di Wedding?? It's all Anil Kapoor's hard earned money, not hers. If you can't find anyone to interview better utilize your precious time to work out and live a healthy life.
