About three years ago, we visited Oatman and then headed to Kingman. On the way through we stopped at the Water Spring store and Jack happened to be set up outside with his rocks and treasures.
We talked for a bit, and I asked to have my photo taken with him, as he had shooters on both hips, a big knife, rocks hanging around his neck and was a great story teller.
He showed me some of his gorgeous pieces and shared some of his knowledge with us as well. Right at the end, he picked up a specimen and handed it to me and said, ‘here, this is for you’.
One of the hilites of my trip was meeting this kind quirky miner that was generous enough to spend time with a complete stranger instilling more love for nature and how it can provide such beautiful minerals from it. ❤
Thank you Jack!
I love jack, he's my homie. I'm at his shop right now, we're getting ready for a mining camp out this weekend, should be a good memorial day weekend!!🎉
Wow, those claims are loaded with beautiful specimens ! Oatman is a fun place ! Lots of geology too ! Thanks for sharing Elley. 🤠⛏⚒👍
Had the pleasure of stopping by Jack’s place and chatting. Beautiful specimens for sale from his claims and great stories too. Great job capturing his personality and beautiful claims
Love fire agate
My buddy jacob hunter loves working on fireagates
I wear one of his cabs he sold to me i put it on a ring👍
I live in Washington State. I wish it wasn't so far away. This was a great video and beautiful stones.
Im bone on bone with my knees, can't collect, though fireagate is one of my fav stones. I have stuff from deer creek because I knew a mine owner who let me dig there on his claim. thanks for your video.
I went to Kingman a little over a week ago to visit my long time friend who moved there recently. We spent a few days in Kingman before heading out to visit the Grand Canyon. She wanted to take me to Oatman. Driving down Rt.66 towards Oatman.... I saw a sign "Fire Agates" and saw Jack's shop on the side of the road. We have to go I said there we had already sped past the shop. My friend made a quick U turn and we stopped. Jack greeted us and noticed that I was looking at the vast amounts of Fire Agates and other rocks that he has. I was a like a kid in a candy store... oogling and drooling over the tables and tables of the rough that he has. I told him I didn't know much about Fire Agates so he walked around with me and commented on each one I picked up. i chose some and he commented on my good eye for good rocks and tried to explain what I should do to process them. Finally and sadly it was time to get back on the road...I had a bunch of good specimens for me to figure out what to do with. When we made it to Oatman, my friend let me out so she could park... Where do you think she let me out was right by a huge outdoor rock shop, of course I had to buy some things.... got a few pieces of petrified wood as well as some other rocks. All in all it I got my first "kick" on Rt. 66, but the best "kick" came when we arrived at the Grand Canyon just before sunset. Still don't know what to do with and how to process my treasures....
Ed's Camp has some stuff around it. Might go looking on public land in the vicinity. Good area to go exploring!
That’s too exciting!!!! It’s so beautiful ❤
I’m so jealous! 😆
Looks like fun got to love how excited you get over some rocks. Thank you ALL, stay safe
Elley knows rocks but everybody loves rocks thanks for the adventure
Aweeeeesome video!
I have a fire agate I found at Saddleback Mountain, AZ about the size of a small bowling ball.
I haven't done anything with it yet other than clean off the debris because I don't want to damage it.
Awww I’m from Arizona. I’ve been to Oatman :) so cool!!!
Very very beautiful fire agate best look stone nice color all so good your working , I am Da Rafi from Pakistan i love gems stone ❤
Kid's in the Candy store! 😂 love it!!
Man ! Just drop me there leave me ... With a big bag .😆😁🤗✌❤
I went to a place that was open to the public years ago somewhere (dont recall lol but I believe it was off 10 in the southern part out in the middle of nowhere) it's in the Gem Trails of Arizona book. We looked for a couple hours and found one brown piece with a very small amount of fire. Not nearly as cool as all the huge chunks of chrysocolla that came tumbling down a hillside in another location lol. One memorial part of the trip was when my wife had to go to the bathroom and was screaming because there was a scorpion under her lol.
Wow!
I haven’t been to oatman in nearly 10 years
16:03, the surface fire piece, appears to be enhydro.
I have a great little inappropriate rock 😂
He's a talker!
What’s the difference between your fire opal and fire agate?
Those rocks are all overgolden valley also
Wow!!!! ❤❤❤❤
8:42 Yep. Your hubby is still in love with you.
Not sure what you saw I saw a walrus.
Elley, why is it pronounced Cal-Sydney and not Chal-sid-ony?
Major typo in the intro
I hate to be a naysayer, but there's no way there was a Wagon Road up to the top and I would not want that guy being my tour guide
He's a great guide
That is the Beale wagon trail. Yup, real. There is an old blacksmith shop site there also. Been there many times.
@@Val-fi9hg I just got back from Jack's campout. Found some beautiful material, called right next to the blacksmith shop🥰
@@Val-fi9hg Correct, Fort Beale is just outside of Kingman. Some of the old wagon tracks can still be seen near White Cliffs.
How do you find these claims that allow people to poke around on them for payment? Like how would I find this, or others in Arizona, that I could pay $50 to collect specimens?
Right after I watch your video (great video) I went to grocery shopping at Ralphs, Palm Springs, a few days ago. I thought I walked right by you, but no red hair. I wish I'd stopped and said hello.
My buddy's sister managed a gold mine in Oatman. It is such an awesome area. Great job!

Nobody go there. Nothing to see. Dont waste ur time.
Yes, stay home. It's a waste of time and money and effort. However, if you insist on going, you'll need to stop at my house first and pick me up so I can help you lament the lost hours 😂
@@JoanieBC u dirty dog. Thanks for secoding. But not. Horrible place. A lot of snake bites and scorpions all year long. Plus the bobcats ans turkey vultured always praying overhead. Just saying. And the killer donkeys. Almost forgot about them. Yes stay away if u know whats best for u? Pick u up on the way? No. Yes! Dang it? Lol.
Hahahaha
Carry a spray bottle man, don't lick it in front of a lady! You spoiled it and now she needs to find one of her own.
There's plenty.
