I like that Chaos King is a perfect foil for Ralsei. Ralsei is a complete and utter pacifist who believes fights can be resolved peacefully. Chaos King on the other hand is someone who can't be reasoned with.
The king of spades. He's a man who recognized that when the second fountain emerged, his people could benefit from its dark energies. He knew the Lightners would one day come and try and seal it, but they had abandoned his people for too long. Some fell to madness, like Jevil, others fell apart completely, like Seam. The insipid light they follow would reduce his kingdom to nothing, and lo and behold if we're successful, his entire kingdom vanishes, leaving only toys and playing cards. Who is truly real, and who is truly fake? The king of spades, self appointed "Bad Guy" and monarch of chaos, usurped the dark throne from the 3 other kings, Heart, Diamond, and Club, to enstate himself as the one true king and Lancer as the one true prince. In the end, desperate to ensure his kingdom would not vanish, he would presumably sacrifice his own son. A man of few morals, but the few he had he would stick by even if it meant the death of himself or others. A strict antithesis to Asgore to be sure, there are few redeeming qualities for the Chaos King, not as a father, but as a king, his was a defensive war. Given the end result of our adventure, can we even say it wasn't with good intentions? He knew what our presence meant. Of course he didn't want to be our friends; We are going to destroy his world.
Birdofterror Technically we don’t have a choice as we are never in control. No matter what we do the ending never changes if we don’t have a choice are we responsible? When a person is killed by a gun do you lock up the gun or the person wielding it? Tho we try to do the right thing we never could change the outcome.

The characters in Undertale had no control while we had all the control, while in Deltarune we have no control- but neither do they. The story and gameplay narrative is linear, but that doesn't make the story any less impactful. The Chaos King had very clear motivations to protect the fountain at all costs. What choice we do have in the game is very limited. There is one small, but key difference. Whether or not Lancer is made king- but I wonder if that truly matters. After all, the kingdom vanishes, the fountain was removed. We may come back tomorrow with Susie; But what will even remain when we come back?

Update after two years: I still remember that from 3:32 onwards, this solo always makes me see like the screen went black and you're dodging spade circles, that start getting more intricate and spinning around...

Vetrom, I like the usage of a violin in this remix. It's a calm instrument, with the beat and electric guitar gives it a rhythm and a crazy feeling to this as well. So basically it's amazing as usual

I've seen some people say that King is way different from Asgore, but I disagree with that. I think that the way the King acts is how Asgore acted at the start of the War. But, as time passed, Asgore lost his will to fight and became the nice guy we see him as.
Asgore did have to be the "bad guy," but this guy was just a pure psycho. It's one thing to want justice and revenge, but it's another thing to be such a bitch about it. Asgore was prob similar, but still regretful, and hated what he had to do, while not holding it against children. But King? Not so much
All Asgore wanted was to give his people hope and a reason to continue, not to murder children. He did horrible things not out of hatred of wanting to do those things, but because he had to do them

The Legend says we have to destroy the fountain. But how can we know the Legend is true? A Prince from The Dark... But the prince of Darkners is very unfamiliar with this "Legend". The King protects the fountain at all costs. We know Lightners are not innocent, they have betrayed the King. His heart became cracked with hatred. What have they done, we may never know. But all this makes the legitimacy of this "Legend" very questionable. Who really is the "bad guy" of this story. Lancer introduces himself as one, but he isn't. The King, a hero to his people, also introduces himself as one. What if he also isn't? What if we are the bad guys?

The Legend says we have to destroy the fountain. But how can we know the Legend is true? A Prince from The Dark... But the prince of Darkners is very unfamiliar with this "Legend". The King protects the fountain at all costs. We know Lightners are not innocent, they have betrayed the King. His heart became cracked with hatred. What have they done, we may never know. But all this makes the legitimacy of this "Legend" very questionable. Who really is the "bad guy" of this story. Lancer introduces himself as one, but he isn't. The King, a hero to his people, also introduces himself as one. What if he also isn't? What if we are the bad guys?
