Okay, I think you've convinced me. I painted the rims on my old TJ with rattlecan bedliner and was happy with it...Now I have a 16 JK and I think I'm gonna Plastidip this time. Eventually I'll buy black rims, but this will do for now. Thanks for the upload.
Not too shabby man! For what it's worth it's highly recommended to use a can per wheel... I did a wrangler a few months back and used 5 full! Reason is it will peel in one piece and last longer! And the reason it didn't want to peel off the tire is because there wasn't enough product to peel! Message me if you need any advice but looks like you got the nice end result!
If you ever do this again, Use little white note cards and place them around the wheel between the tire. It eliminates the excess spray and the frustrating peeling process if theres not a good amount coated on it to peel off in one go around. If done right, it should look like a dog in a funnel cone to prevent the dog from licking itself. lol. I did it this way the first time. I did the note card the second day and finished all four tires literally half the time because i wasnt on my ass rubbing the tire to peel it off.
Also Ive found out if you waited 5 minutes in between sessions the bonding materials bond better than if you were to wait a half hour. Just my two cents. You did an awesome job and looks great. Just trying to share my opinion!
The amount of time you used to tape every lug nut could have been used to remove and reinstall the wheel. That would let you rotate the wheel so the can would not have to used upside down. But that is all relative to your skill set though. Looks black 👍
Maybe he doesn’t have a jack and tire iron handy. You’d be surprised how many people roll around without these basic fundamental tools for changing a tire, jumping a battery, etc… Plus I disagree, it’s less work to tape and wrap a bag. You can get in the vehicle and pull forward to turn the wheels right side up to come at a different angle.
I always do 8 coats. You want a thick layer on top of the wheels to repel road particles. You’ll also want to redo it every three years or so and if the layer is too thin, it’ll be a real pain to take off.
You think you would at least look up proper spray painting techniques and know that your first coat is your "dusting" coat and not the second and third coats.
Yes you can spray your lug nuts also when you spray the rim the only thing is the next time you rotate a tire or have to pull off a tire for any reason you'll have to respray your lug nuts being that removing them will most likely peel the plastidip from them...I know I didn't create the video just was going through the comments and saw no one answered your question 😉
I know its 9 months later , but alot of places have black lug nut sets you can buy that arent super expensive to replace the silver ones.... those should last without needing to repaint them for every tire rotation or change
Hey i was wondering where you got your running boards for your Jeep. I've been wanting to get some for my Jeep but I like yours! I was wondering if I could get them off of amazon and if so do you know the name of them? Thanks!
Bailey Smith I've had it on for over a year and it still looks awesome. We got a ton of snow this year and I've been through a lot of mud and car washes (automated ones) and its not coming off! You really have to peel it off to get it to come off.
Jay Jaghla As long as you are not slamming the wrench into the rim you shouldn't need any touch up. I just treat them the same I way I would any rim not wanting to damage them but the plastidip is pretty durable. I'm about to put out another video and you will see my rims are still looking awesome about a year later.
Bunch of assholes in the comment section. Thank you for the video.. I'm going to do mine in the spring and I hope they turn out as nice as yours. I want to do mine the same color as my jeep which is desert sand..I'm worried about the overspray on the tires. You can get away with black overspray on the black tires but a desert sand won't be as forgiving
+NEIL SILVERMAN I did peel it off but it was a little bit of a pain... If I could go back I would probably have stuck cards in the edge of the rim or something to block the overspray
+How to Wrangler The best technique is not to "tape" it off at all. When doing wheels don't worry about anything because the stuff that gets on the tires comes off really easily and it is the best way to get the best job around the literal rim of the rims. Check out the video on dipyourcar.com on plastidipping rims. Just a tip.
I have a 2012 Sahara Altitude Edition and it has blacked out wheels already so this video was useless to me. I did, however, enjoy watching you fuck your wheels up, thanks.
J.D. Turner I did mine on my 2013 Rubicon 2 years ago to match a bunch of other matte black accessories that I have added to it over the years and they have yet to show any signs of flaking. You don't seem to know much about Plasti Dip...
A True Wisconsinite All i know about it is the pictures of what it looks like when it starts flaking off, looks like pure shit. I suppose if you keep your jeep on the road all the time and never do anything with it then it may hold up.
Fuck the haters, the end result looks like you turned it into a brand new vehicle, can you do the same to all the shiny plastic on the inside and make a video of it?
Your spray painting technique is terrible
You don't really need "technique" when you're plasti dipping a wheel, I like how your wheels turned out good video man

Darren Etengoff Great idea and good point, thanks!
Thanks for posting this; I'm sooooo gonna do this with my stock rims!
Looks good. How did it stand up when you washed car?
1st coat is meant to be light tom, 2nd and 3rd go heavy like you like your girls. Good vids tho, keep it up breh
Love this video I was about to take all my wheels off but now I don't thanks good job !
I did this on 3 different Jeep's... I can assure you it takes more than 3 cans to do it right.
The amount of time you used to tape every lug nut could have been used to remove and reinstall the wheel. That would let you rotate the wheel so the can would not have to used upside down. But that is all relative to your skill set though. Looks black 👍

I live in a dorm and don’t have the space to take off wheels and let them dry
all the people with negative comments, but dude it looks good

did you use flat or gloss paint?
after driving how long do you have to wait before you can cover the brakes?
About a half hour, they should be cool enough
Omfg I can't stop laughing when he starts to spray the rims
I'm glad I can make you laugh Jeff E
Try spraying them a little more consistent next time man. Good how to otherwise
You think you would at least look up proper spray painting techniques and know that your first coat is your "dusting" coat and not the second and third coats.
Thanks for the tip
You can't spray airsol cans upside down.
If I want my lock nuts black as well, can I paint those too?
Yes you can spray your lug nuts also when you spray the rim the only thing is the next time you rotate a tire or have to pull off a tire for any reason you'll have to respray your lug nuts being that removing them will most likely peel the plastidip from them...I know I didn't create the video just was going through the comments and saw no one answered your question 😉

"Jesus its like Michael J Fox was spraying the can". LMAO
You really made that look too easy. Is it really that simple? Btw Keep the Jeep wave alive ✌
Jesus its like Michael J Fox was spraying the can.
Tony I'm dying xD
Oh my god its funny
Damn !
is it still ok doing some offroading after the plastic dip? or not recommended?
+Daming Xing Absolutely! Worst case, if you hit it hard and it starts to come off, you can just reapply! But I haven't had that issue
Hey i was wondering where you got your running boards for your Jeep. I've been wanting to get some for my Jeep but I like yours! I was wondering if I could get them off of amazon and if so do you know the name of them? Thanks!
Daniel Hernandez They look like Mopar side steps - my 2011 JK unlimited has the same.
Daniel Hernandez Yup, Mopar stock side steps
Daniel Hernandez You can get them here... tinyurl.com/ly7c3p9
I fast forwarded through all the spraying.. bc cringe...
About how long does the plasti dip last for, and will it come off in snow or any wet weather? Great video
Bailey Smith I've had it on for over a year and it still looks awesome. We got a ton of snow this year and I've been through a lot of mud and car washes (automated ones) and its not coming off! You really have to peel it off to get it to come off.
Mine lasted 4 years. I just took mine off this weekend and found that it wasn't evenly sprayed. :(. Iwill be putting back on my Jeep wheels.
awesome video and great job !
do you not have to cover the tires?
Nice Video(s). The speaker bar one save me some money! Time for you to swap that antenna!
Does it get scratched after rotating tires and require a touch up??
Jay Jaghla As long as you are not slamming the wrench into the rim you shouldn't need any touch up. That looks so sick!!!! 🤘🏼
So what about getting it on the tires? Did you peel it off? Thx
+NEIL SILVERMAN I did peel it off but it was a little bit of a pain... If I could go back I would probably have stuck cards in the edge of the rim or something to block the overspray

NIce video . I am just wondering how it will last.
Sheng Gui If you apply it the right way it will last even through tons of car washes!
I have a 2012 Sahara Altitude Edition and it has blacked out wheels already so this video was useless to me. I did, however, enjoy watching you fuck your wheels up, thanks.
Thomas Rogers lol...
+J.D. Turner How did he fuck up his wheels?...you must be brain dead.
A True Wisconsinite because that shit will be flaking off in 2 weeks and will look like trash.
J.D. Turner I did mine on my 2013 Rubicon 2 years ago to match a bunch of other matte black accessories that I have added to it over the years and they have yet to show any signs of flaking. You don't seem to know much about Plasti Dip...

6 years ago… How did it hold up
Cool but please use a more consistent spray technique
should have taped the tire around the wheel as well, but looks sweet
I agree, it was difficult to peel off, but taping might have been just as difficult, so toss up, ha ha! Thanks!
This is very helpful
worst spray paint technique EVER
Thank you! I'm getting a Dodge Charger soon and I want to do this
Use a thin coat. Or just a whole can.
who the hell holds a paint can upside down when painting????...duh!!
Yeah,, nevermind the overspray all over the tires. No one will notice.
Fuck the haters, the end result looks like you turned it into a brand new vehicle, can you do the same to all the shiny plastic on the inside and make a video of it?
funniest thing i seen all day lol wow
So Many Mean Comments. I Thought This Video Was Helpful. 🤷🏾♀️
Guys just take the tire off. And for God sake use a even spraying method. Who the hell sprays like this??
sloppy spray painter, dam
Why ???????????? All I got to day plastidip so amateur
Got to say one thing just plane tacky , do something else beside painting it could of look good . But you failed it
Planes are tacky. Thank god it’s a Jeep. 🤣
The way he is spray painting just worries me... Lord help us lol
It's sad, parkinson
Sorry dude but you should take your seizure meds before doing a video.
OR you could remove the wheel instead of doing it the half ass way
Ur spraying it all over the place crappy way to paint the wheel ur not very informative
