I always thought this gentleman is so gentleman, and made a gentle music. You will be remembered forever. RIP Mr. Bolafonte, from a peruvian who loves your music.
HARRY BELAFONTE LEGEND FOREVER. There's no more musicians like him these days, nor souls like HE was. What a shiny MEN humanity has had. HE was the last ANGEL walking on this planet. YOU will be missed dearly all around the world and never forgotten . THANK YOU HARRY BELAFONTE FOR EVERYTHING YO GAVE TO THE WORLD. My heart is broken. Rest in heaven with Angels beautiful soul. 🙏🙏🙏😇😇😇❤❤❤💔💔💔🌿🕊
Rest in the greatest peace, Sir. The greatest peace, the love you have given to the musical world, to the world at large. I will never forget the touch of your hand, Sir, nor the words you leaned to whisper in my ear.
A great Human Being has left us, but his music and legacy and all that he stood for will live on in the hearts and minds of people everywhere!! Love you Harry Belafonte. You will be greatly missed!! Rest in Peace!!❤❤
Your energy is communicated through this beautiful music Harry...How could anyone not have a smile in their heart while hearing music like this...I tell ya this music is timeless and can still send you to this place...
I remember seeing him in Portland, Oregon in early 60's. He walked on stage, wearing a bright red shirt, open about 3 buttons and tight blue jeans. He walked to center stage, leaned on one hip, arms crossed and just stood there. Didn't need to say a word. The audience was on its feet, screaming and applauding for somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes. One of the greatest concerts I had seen up to that time. He was pure magic. I never saw an entertainer with that kind of magnetism until I saw Roberto Carlos of Brazil in 2012. Men like Belafonte only come along once in three or four generations. I still stop and listen when he speaks for civil rights.
What a man and voice! Really 70??? Cannot believe it. Missing such brilliant entertainer today! May he become 100 ! ❤️him as singer and activist❤️ Greetings from Germany🌹🍀
I saw this concert on TV many years ago and was blown away. Up until then Belafonte was the music my parents listen to. Great band also. Thanx for posting video.
With father and uncle who were connoisseurs of Western music, I grew up along with this song and it always touches a deep chord within my soul. This particular performance is a wonderful experience of going back in the time machine. Did you notice how he carried the audience along with him and made the singers, male and female audience sing along with him. Harry Belafonte, you are an all time great. Hats off to you.
Harry your voice, art of expression which comes in from your soul proves .................you are our Ambassador and the best!! I unite with you from a far away land named India, Calcutta now Kolkata, the place from where late Tagore, poet, lyricist did lighten the world as you go on doing. Kolkata adores you from the bottom of our hearts. Harry, we wait eagerly to hear you more and more songs about us the global common citizens.........like of Kolkata.
We live in an era of "disposable" music. Harry B. is a genuine original. The real deal. This is timeless music....and this version is positively magical :D
I shall always be in awe of this wonderful man. In the film that he acted with Tony Curtis, Tony insisted that Harry had the same prominence on the billing. Harry has done so much for equal rights, as a white man I am proud to have known his lovely voice!
RIP, the King of Calypso, Harry Belafonte (1927-2023). Award winning singer and actor; key strategist, activist, fundraiser and mediator for the American civil rights movement. You have left indelible footprints on the sands of time.
Very beautiful song that I'd like to hear it everyday. It is so timeless. It makes me think of my Jamaican friend from the university so long time ago. Hope Joseph is doing very well in Kingston now.
Just found this today....wow.... funny how you forget how much Mr. Belafonte's music makes you feel so good. Wonderful to have this available. Thank you Mr. Belafonte for the gifts of your music and hard work. Merci!
What an amazing legacy this man will be leaving us all! He had the insight to try performing island songs in the mainland of the U.S. and was rewarded with a major career. He had the sense of justice to work for good causes and to give lots of his acquired wealth to charities. "Blessed are those who seek justice. They will be satisfied."
Dieser Song begleitet mich seit ich ihn mit 12 jahren das erste mal gehört habe. In jeder version ist es eine Offenbarung. Harry Belafonte war einer der Großen!!!!!
Simple yet exceptionally melodious composition makes this song so much popular world wide. I have heard this song umpteen times and would still love to hear again and again. It creates a melancholic soothing effect resulting in a feeling of sublime happiness. A big salute to Mr Harry Belafonte from Kolkata, INDIA.
Hij heeft klasse en een geweldige stem. Mooie uitstraling, nog steeds. Island in the Sun is mijn lievelingssong. Mooie herinneringen aan de Carribean. Veel gedraaid dit lied toen ik daar was. A shining human being went back into the light today. Farewell, dear Mr. Belafonte, and thank you for everything.

The Master of Audience Participation ... he makes you want to sing !
Mind blowing....hats off Mr Harry Belafonte. Lovely...I have heard all the versions of this song....
Those prime years, when a music show didn't cost a lot of energy, jumping and making a lot of noise but rather pure talent, passion and confidence.
This generation don't appreciate those of our children coming up with the passion and love for good music . All they want to hear is noise. 😔
the introduction was a perfect masterpiece...
so , so beautiful , so gentle , it nourishes my soul 🤗🤗
thank you for posting
