My Father loved Harry Belafontes Music , l remember him giving me the money to go to the store to buy the 45 Record that was so popular, we were all born in Ireland but grew up in England, he was loved in Ireland also,☘️ Island in the Sun was being sung everywhere & still is, thank you for all your work for Human Rights, here in the US as well. +Rest in Peace you were something very special.
I was riding in the subway in NY in about 1960 and saw the most handsome man I had ever seen- I didn’t want to stare at him and just smiled and he smiled back. It was a special moment for me. Later I bought his albums and saw him in concert many times. Wonderful singer and entertainer and civil rights activist!
My dad was a Greek immigrant who happened to be working as a cook at the hotel Harry was staying in when touring here in Australia in the 60s, and who also happened to be a big fan of Harry's. He asked one of the bellboys who was about to deliver the food my dad prepared for Harry, if he'd pass on the message that his cook was big fan of his, not expecting much to come of it. Not long after, the bellboy returns and says that Harry wanted to thank my dad for his kind words. He then hands my dad a picture and a tour book both personally signed by Harry. He then tops it off up saying that Harry would like him to have these 2 tickets for his show as a thank you. My dad passed away many years ago but I always remember the smile on his face when sharing this particular story with me, showing me the tour book and photos, and it made me fond of Harry since, and made me appreciate what a genuinely good hearted person he must have been.
This song and this version by a wonderful performer who I saw in Australia has rekindled beautiful memories of my late father who served in the Pacific in World War 2

My friend and I went to see Harry in concert at the SF Opera House in 1956. Our tickets were for the very last row of the top of the house. We were 15. We took our dads' heavy old binoculars and I could see the weaving in the rug on the stage floor. I could see the rivulets of sweat running down his face. I hear this particular song way differently than I did back then. Now I hear it as a song of sovereignty, sung by a strong Jamaican. The words are quite beautiful. I learned them then, but had no idea what the song was really about. I thank this great man for all he has done to stand for justice wherever he is.

Harry Belafonte, a singer I remember from schooldays. A famous, and reassuring singer. He was a nurturing singer, from my early days. "There's A Hole In My Bucket" was another relaxing song for childhood learning.. He did some acting parts too? It was early 1970's for me!
I Have listened with joy to his songs since the 1960s. For 20 years I was a high level squash player and used to play his songs before matches. They seemed to give me alertness and energy for my matches. One of the truly greats, may you rest in peace as we continue to enjoy your singing.

What a LEGEND, MAN of a dream, always enjoying listening Him.👑❤ Truly artist, majestic voice. Genius HARRY BELAFONTE, nearly 1 century old now. There are no man these days like HE was and still is. He will live forever in his songs. I simply admire him and his music. Respect and love for briliant artist and beautiful soul.👑 💞😇👏👏👏👏👏💖💖💖
Harry Belafonte, a singer I remember from schooldays. A famous, and reassuring singer. He was a nurturing singer, from my early days. "There's A Hole In My Bucket" was another relaxing song for childhood learning.. He did some acting parts too? It was early 1970's for me!
Thank you for your commitment to human rights
and thank you for your music.
R.I.P. Mr.Belafonte
As a West Indian Harry Belafonte's lyrics bring the formative years of my life in the Caribbean into my mind.
One of the greatest hits ever,
Everywhere it's A lovely time tot listen this Island in the sun 💗
May he rest in peace. He has left such a legacy for us to remember him by.
I Have listened with joy to his songs since the 1960s. For 20 years I was a high level squash player and used to play his songs before matches. They seemed to give me alertness and energy for my matches. One of the truly greats, may you rest in peace as we continue to enjoy your singing.
So glad this is on video to be enjoyed for years to come. Let the younger generation know the sound of great singers.
