I pored over that album cover so that's how I remember your uncle's name. RIP Mr. Belafonte. Now cracks a noble heart.
My dad passed away on 11th March 2023 after fighting multi organ disease for over 2 years. This was his favourite song. He was loving, kind and caring. He was very protective of our family and especially me and my brother. He added so much life and colour to our lives that it feels like an empty void without him. For the last 2 years, I saw his condition get worse and worse, with doctors saying that it was a terminal case. Slowly he lost his mental faculties, remembering little about himself or us. In one way, I’m happy that his suffering has come to an end, for no god loving man should be put through that ordeal. I hope god has taken his test and my dad has come out with flying colours, since he didn’t lose his faith and love for God till the very end. His last 3 hours were spent in the way he loved it most - Thanking God, thinking about his children, and laying in my mothers arms. “God is Great” was his favourite thing to say. You’re a lion dad, and your roar will forever reverberate in my heart. I’ll carry you everywhere I go, and your legacy shall never be forgotten. I’ll love you forever and always, Your loving son.
Throughout my early childhood, my grandfather would always sing this song whenever he was driving my sister and I to spend a few days at his house. Keep in mind, this was during the early 2000s to mid 2010s, 50-60 years after this song first debuted. I think it was the first song that I ever got emotional about. He used to tell me that when I was really little, I’d cry when he said “I had to leave a little girl in Kingston Town”. Now that he has passed, this song is one of the ways of how I remember him the best.

Most song that we’re sung by Harry are the Caribbean folk songs. The majority’s was bought from the calypsonians on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago and more. Jamaican natives did us proud. From Japan with love
Rest in peace, Harry 🕊🙏 this song always makes me feel calm whenever I listen to it 💜💙
R. I. P. YOU will be missed. But your music will always live in my heart. 💜💜💜🙏🙏🙏💯💯💯
I was 11 yrs. old watching this handsome man singing & threw my life I always said, "what a handsome man". :)
Baba Raila Amollo Odinga introduced me to this masterpiece. Long live Mr. Odinga💖
Farewell, sir. And thank you, thank you, thank you.
One of my favourite songs as a child. I am so grateful that my parents had such "old" taste in music and that their "Belafontes greatest hits" record was a regular on our beloved turn table. Exposure to these wonderful old songs was one of their greatest gifts to me.
Most song that we’re sung by Harry are the Caribbean folk songs. The majority’s was bought from the calypsonians on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago and more. Jamaican natives did us proud. My roots are from Jamaica while I am a born Antiguan by my mom and dad. My roots are from Mountain View in Jamaica. I met some and is still searching. Have a great day.🇦🇬🇯🇲❤️✨✨✨❤️✨✨✨
Just like Afrika, our India too has a rich folk culture. Our folksongs express the feelings of common people just like it is expressed in this song
This is a Mento song, not Calypso and Mento is from Jamaica
All love appears in this lyrics of this song we like thank you for all Rest in peace 🙏🏼❤
Growing up in Canada in the '60s this was my one of my parents' favorite entertainers I was living in Atlanta in the early seventies and a friend at tickets to see Harry Belafonte live at the beautiful Fox Theater on Peachtree Street I had heard some of his songs from my parents and I decided I would go and see him live not only is Harry Belafonte one of the great entertainers that ever lived but he exuded such class charm and sex appeal and his Dynamic personality I kept everyone on the edge of their seat all night Harry Belafonte is such a Showman and he put on one of the greatest performances that I've ever seen in person The Golden voice the Larger than Life persona the sex appeal the charisma this Iconic figure really had
It all best of health and I hope you live another hundred years certainly your Timeless songs will

How can classic grow old?
🇯🇲❤️🇯🇲RIP Harry played your songs at night to put my kids to sleep. 😢
This was my favorite song as a kid & still is. My school teacher taught me this song for a school program & I'm forever indebted to her for that. I heard Harry Belafonte singing it much after that & couldn't get it out of my head. This was decades ago but the song still holds the same charm ❤
❤
One of my late father's favourites. I got to hear this wonderful voice through him in the early 70s and that feeling of wonder has remained. Truly, an all time great!
I was only 7 when this came out and trust me I had a ear 4 music then ❤️ it.

Wow 96 years old and only died this year thankyou Mr belfonte I love your songs
My all-time favourite song. I started singing this number for my little daughter from the time she could comprehend songs.
I really like Harry’s Jamaica Farewell. I was in the primary school when that song dominates the airwaves in Manila. Harry is one of the best singers in the world. I also liked his many songs like banana boat, island in the sun, Mary’s boy, among others
Happy birthday, Harry Belafonte.
I'm watching the video of you singing 'Jamaica farewell', at 95.
May God continue to bless a chosen one.
He was an American original. May he Rest in Peace.
