I use this printer with Windows, Android and Linux. It hasn't missed a beat. If you get frustrated with this printer, stay away from HP. You might end up in a mental institution with HP printers.
I believe they design these things on purpose to enrage the user. All printers have bad UI and bad Wifi. My favorite being a Canon color laser as it pretty good, but have it hardwired instead of Wifi and is pretty fast and reliable but expensive tonor replacement $350 for OEM tonor cartridges but at least you get 1000's of pages typically 6k pages on high yeild cartridges, so cheaper to run long term and only $199 for decnt aftermarket tonor cartridges. Much better then a lousy 200 pages if that on a professional HP $1200 business class inkjet and ink cartridges cost $135, which ended up replacing it with the Canon color laser.
I dont understand how moat peinter available are still a nightmare or have a least one headache inducing issue. With all the technology we have it honestly blows my mind. Im looking for a decent one for home use and there isnt one definitive good one out there! Unless you wanna spend 500+ dollars!

I have this printer. Setting up the Wifi via the printer is terrible.... impossible. But doing so using the setup application on my Mac was easy. And mine goes into deep sleep, but I've never had a problem with it waking up when I need to print from my Mac, iPhone, or iPad. For me, this printer just works.
Look, the only thing I care about is if it forever works. That's it. Long as I can plug it into a laptop or computer and print that doesn't suck. Don't care about wifi
If that is the only issue your printer has it’s not that bad. Most printers have worse issues. Look at HP Smart. I rest my case. Brother releases firmware updates like crazy too you probably just need to load them then factory reset it she’ll be fine

I have the earlier and much more basic HL-2140 (bought around 2009.) A workhorse.. 3 drums, 29 toner cartridges (all cheap 3rd party!).. and it just won't die. It's going to outlast me. I'll give it to my future grandkids or something.
I solved the sleep mode problem with a eve energie plug. If i shut down the plug while in sleep mode, next time i activate the plug, the printer wake up of sleep mode.

The wifi problem seems to be universal among printers from reviews I've read for many other printers. I bought the hl-23800dw back in 2017 despite all the bad reviews, and I still believe it is the BEST purchase I have ever made, especially considering how cheap it was at the time because of all the negative reviews about wifi 😂 When it goes into deep sleep, I simply just restart the printer and that fixes the problem. It was totally worth it for the sheer amount it can print off of just one 15 dollar toner cartridge! Easily the best 80 bucks I ever spent!
It's 2024 and I've just tried to print one page from my web browser. It ran through at least a hundred sheets with a few lines of code on each; never printed the images and now it won't do anything. Just like 1996. This is what a world of monopolies looks like. What has never ceased to boggle my mind is how these printers, their software, including the OS, are so stupid, yet they always seem to know when you're in a crunch so they can stop working. And all the voodoo rituals to work around under using the cartridges. An HP 2500 series color laser jet with 4 cartridges would repeatedly stop working and say to replace all the cartridges. Some had almost 100 g of toner used, the yellow was 6 grams. The voodoo rituals are so they can claim that their demands for more proprietary ink and toner are not mandatory, just recommendations.
Wait, wait, wait... so if I don't have any Apple devices and I don't care for Wifi printing AT ALL, the only issue is dealing with the Deep Sleep? Which can be disabled? Sounds like a win to me, babyyy!
It should be absolutely rock solid if you just plug it into your computer. I've had the thing for over three years now and I still haven't had to change the toner cartridge. - Josh
I have the canon MF455DW printer and it’s the best printer I’ve ever owned. Unfortunately it still has issues like built in non adjustable margins that cut off the top and bottom of copies and other annoying things. I don’t think there will ever be a perfect printer or anything else for that matter. Instead of improving products they come out with a new model that has new issues.
Exactly. I'm cable connected to the router. Same network means no problem printing from PC via ethernet or laptop via WiFi. The printer automatically pops up, ready to use, even from your phone if any of the suitable apps are installed.

I have a printer pretty much just like this. Overall, I am satisfied and it prints with much less of a headache than my old inkjet. The WiFi though can be very annoying to deal with. Even the best printers still aren't immune to everything, which for these it seems to be the networking. I wish they would have put an Ethernet jack on it to mitigate those problems.
Is this the L2405W? Ive been mulling over buying that model for a few weeks at least. I dont really need a new printer at the moment but the canon inkjet im using now says its out of ink and im sick of spending $40 to replace my dried out ink like twice a year.
Did you know that there's a web interface for this printer?! If youre on the same network, navigate to its ip address in your browser and you can change the settings on your computer! No more stupid up down buttons
What you say is very true , absolutely true , ...... But believe me when i say this the brother printer is really very good , reliable , easy to fill , ...... This monochromatic laser printer is the best in market , Better than Hp or cannon , quality of the print is good , speen of printing is good you can actually get a genuine idea of the cost per page which is not possible in Hp or Cannon....
Rarely had any connectivity issues with my Epson. The same can't be said about my old HP, which was a pain in the buttocks in every aspect. I guess the best printer is the one you have and can connect to 😂
I also own one of these and ive never had any of the issues here minus the wifi password. Yeah it sucks but if you use the printer driver it just adds it to the network for you. also make sure you map it by IP ADDRESS! it makes it bulletproof
I have this printer I have no issues with it I don’t print much but when I do I use my phone and computer and wait a little for it to print and it make up that when it quick prints my papers so I’m not complaining

I got an go tank printer 2 years ago and after printing a decent amount I’ve encountered very few hiccups and the ink is cheap but I haven’t needed more yet

Not as bad as modern phones. My Galaxy S20 is only two years old, never dropped, never in the rain, and with each "update" something else stops working. I'm a professional photog and I got the S20 for impromptu street photograpy, but after six updates, the camera is unusable, and I can't help but to think they are doing it on purpose because they want me to spend another thousand dollars. So now I just pack my digital camera, which fits in my other pocket. Screw these people.
Thank goodness. I thought I was the only one experiencing the crap network connection. So I use this as a wired printer. But there is no driver for the latest MacOS.
Yeah, the let's rely on Airprint thing is very annoying. However, I may have found a solution. Brother had a little nugget of info in their documentation on having the printer set to IPV4 can cause issues with Apple Devices and there is a way force it to IPV6 in it's settings. If it continues to work, I'll make a video on how to set that up. - Josh
I use it with the brother iprint and scan app (on my iPhone) and never have a problem- it's always come out of deep sleep to print for my MacBook pro also. i've had this printer since 2016 and it's still kickin just fine. For sure it's a PIA to type in that wifi password, but i might have had to do that like 4x in the past 7 years. sucks you're having issues with yours :/
I have the same printer and I went through the same suffering in the exact order. At the end, instead of doing network resets, I added the printer via it's IP address instead of relying on AirPrint. Somehow AirPrint is super fragile and won't work after it works for once after setting up. And at the end, I agree: it still sucks. Setting a custom size, trying to get quality prints, etc. I hate my printer.

By a hub do you mean a network switch? Hubs are similar, but they haven't really been used in like 20 years
