What is the difference between all the mentioned canvases?
@@renchiiix I rated them on quality (left, ex:4/5). I'll make a video that explains better but in short higher quality means they're thicker (poly-cotton) but also can be more expensive vs. the thinner polyester ones. The higher the gsm the thicker the canvas. the rc depot budget is the thinnest and the "texture" doesn't look as authentic as the others. I personally primarily use the gedex. It's a great price and good quality. I couldn't justify the decreased margins associated with the lyve and chromata. The quality was gorgeous, but honestly for just placing the print behind glass in a frame my collectors didn't notice it in person.
@@shakiaharris_art Thank you very much! :)
Thank you for this video!! Would you mind linking your inks again?
How much is this printer if you don’t mind me asking
Kindred spirit here! I’m an award winning photographer, and also a Special Ed teacher (retired) - 18+ years. Your video was perfect. Great review of this printer and what it can do. You now have a new subscriber, because I’m not too old or too proud to learn from a younger generation!
That is awesome! Congrats on all of your accomplishments and I'm glad to be able to pay it forward. I'm big on "community over competition". I remember how miserable it was for me to try to find out anything in this area, so it warms my heart to hopefully help someone else. Thank you for subscribing!
This is so great. I didn’t know there was a printer like this. Thank you for all the info!
you're welcome! i hope it helps.
Thank you so much! I have been exhausting my brain doing printer research and I had a feeling a plotter printer was the way to go but no one reviews them as art printers so I sincerely appreciate you taking the time
Thank you! It is an exhausting process that's also EXPENSIVE. I'm glad I could help. Checkout my DIY Art Print Class if you need more help on your journey.

So nice to find another black artist on youtube. Subbed 😊❤. I paint in watercolour, but appreciate seeing other amazing artists who look just like me ❤❤.
aw thank you friend! Just over here trying to grow this operation brick by brick lol
Proud owner here of one of your prints! You do amazing work, and really appreciate this printer review.

I absolutely agree with you about the quality of this printer for artwork. I use a T3170 for my artwork with great results. Next purchase will be the 36" T5170.
I'm glad to hear that Alan! Good luck to you and the 36" sounds exciting
Hi Shakia - Just want to say, what a great review! I searched for this as I was torn between the Canon TC-20 and the Epson - I've now decided thanks to your review.
I'm glad to hear it! Like any technology there's a learning curve, but my numbers don't lie and my clients love their prints. Best of luck to you!
This is such an amazing review of a printer for canvas! You hit on everything that I’ve been researching, and then some. Tyvm for taking the time, and putting this together. You have helped me out immensely 🙏
Thank you I hope it helps you and your business continues to grow!
We love our SC T2170!!! Best printer secret ever!!! We got a great deal on our printer so we invested in the stand. Best decision ever! when it's time to clean the office or temporarily move the unit it just rolls out of the way! Tip: Wholesale clubs sometimes carry 24" roll paper on their websites! Way less than other suppliers! Example: HP Satin photo paper BH Photo-$100+ vs Wholesale Clubs $69
yay I'm so glad it's working for you! Thanks for the wholesale club tip I'll check that out. Every dollar counts
great idea ... you got a link to that Wholesale Club
Thank you for your video!!!! I am so thankful to have found you and purchased your art course!! You have made my sales journey so much easier, saved me at least a few headaches, and A LOT of time. You are a brilliant queen ! I didn't even realize how lost I would have been lol
I can't thank you enough for the kind words and feedback. Please comment within the art course or email me directly (shakiaharrisart@gmail.com) if you have any questions that arise along the way. Happy to help!
This just made my heart happy, I’m so happy you popped in my recommendations because you’re right it’s a big money saver instead of buying pictures but printing pictures for canvas is amazing thank you so much happy holidays💜💜💜💜💜💜
I just bought a roll of canvas it was $65 dollars, but 24inches by 60 ft (720 inches). I paid that off by selling just 1 12x126 print ($62). Make sure you don’t turn off bc the ink needs to stay charged in standby mode and no worries after I figured that out after buying at least 10 printers real talk
oh yes! I never turn mine off. I noticed it would waste ink whenever it would load back up. I also noticed less issues with Printer Head Strikes
I’ve been looking at Canons, like the Pro 1000. What I’ve been reading about the Epsons is that their performance is great, but that the build quality is chintzy, they’re very prone to irreparable failure, and the warranty policies are crummy. This review gives me a little hope for the brand.
i've had mine for 2 years now, use it a lot and haven''t had any. major issues like that. I try not to unplug it or turn it off unless absolutely necessary. glad I could ease some of your frustrations/anxieties
I have no idea how this video got recommended but I am SO HAPPY it did. Excellent review 👏 Are those your paintings? They’re so beautiful 😍
Yes I paint in oils! I'm so grateful and hope you stick around for more 🫶🏾

I can’t believe I just ordered this large printer by accident. I have the smaller one oh lord. I’m going to just print art for my home now. And make a beautiful canvas photo of my children as well
Hi Shakia, I wanted to first thank you for this great review. Very Informative. I am very new to this printing art. My question to you, and to anyone who owns this printer, would I be able to print my art work on.. say for example 100% Cotton 140 lb Deckle Edge Watercolor Paper Cold Press? And also, would you do step-by-step instructional video from taking a picture of the Artwork to the final step of printing? Please.
i have the covered in full at this link: shakia-s-site.thinkific.com/courses/prints
also according to the specs you should be able to print onto watercolor cold press. I've seen 24inch watercolor paper rolls available. I'd be happy to test it if a manufacturer ever wanted to send me some.
Watercolor paper video is coming today. Long story short, NO it cannot handle watercolor paper well! Lol I tried 114 lb paper and it was abysmal
Hi, great video, your positivity is infectious. I'm thinking about buying this printer, but in a lot of videos the colours seem a bit muted, especially red. I would appreciate your opinion. Is it capable of producing strong colours like red? Thanks for your help.
I fix this by upping my saturation (I use canva, on avg if I do +8 & +10 brightness) it looks just like the picture.
thanks - i was looking for a down to earth review for a cheap canvas printer
So happy to help. I'm not a technical guru so I try to keep it simple 😅
Great vid and thank you! Does it print borderless?

Hi, i love the artwork and just subscribed and want to hopefully learn more from you about art printing. I just bought a 36” Epson printer to be delivered Monday and interested in printing the A0, A1, A2, A3 and custom sizes aswell. I just wanted to know what software do you use and also say printing an A0 how can i adjust my print so i can leave some space so as to be able to stretch on to my frames? I would really appreciate your input. 🙏🏽
i use canva. i go into more detail here: shakia-s-site.thinkific.com/ . to stretch it just print it with a white borer around that will cover the depth of the wood stretchers
So the eco solvent ink gives u issues with this printer also when u don't use it alot?
Hello maam ! Can it also print on photo sheets and normal A4,A3 sheets? But my primary purpose is printing my paintings on canvas.
Thank you for this!! I'm so nervous to take the plunge in creating my own art prints, but this gives me confidence. I'm leaning towards outsourcing my printing - did you start by outsourcing or printing your own?
shakia-s-site.thinkific.com/courses/prints Check this out it will give you the confidence and fill in the blanks. I originally was going to use gicleetoday.com but I stopped because with prints you have to print several versions to tweak colors and the cost to print samples was just too expensive, plus I couldn't expedite the process using a 3rd party. I figured it was easier to get my own printer that way I could take my time to learn how to tweak colors and photography. Hope that helps
beautiful paintings. Thanks for the tips.
You are so welcome!
Great video, Shakia 😊 very informative ❤
Thank you! 🤗
We bought this printer and very happy with the quality of the prints so far. What media settings do you use for polyester canvas. We tried both matte and heavy polyester settings and they're marginally different. Also what setting for cotton canvas. Much appreciated.

@@shakiaharris_art Thank you
As far as the ink goes.....what do you use and you mentioned in a comment about putting it under glass. Is the ink water soluble to where it needs to be protected and under glass? or can a coating be put on it and put on stretcher bars like an oil painting? Thanks
i only use the epson brand archival inks I believe it's t40wxl, specs should be on their website. I know you can "varnish" them as I've used spray varnish in the past and the product looked beautiful. If you want to stretch just be sure to get a canvas that's thick enough
@@shakiaharris_art thanks so much. Stay beautiful! God Bless.
Thanks. I needed this info.
Hey ruth I'm glad it was helpful! It any questions come along just let me know. Best wishes!
You're fantastic! This gives me so much hope. I bought this printer almost one year ago and gave up because I used all of my ink trying to figure it out. It is still printing with lines though, but I feel like I can do it now. Do you have any videos on how to get it to print without lines?
subscribe I'll upload a video on that the next time I'm in the studio! It's only happened to me a couple times, but I do know how to get rid of them and it is definitely annoying. Are you turning your printer off each session or leaving it running?
@@shakiaharris_art thank you so much! I've done the alignment at least 6 times!
@@burninghandart are you using epson or recycled ink? have you also done the printhead cleaning? i have another video that shows my exact printer settings
@shakiaharris_art I am using Epson ink only and I have done several printhead cleanings. Thank you, I will look for that other video!
@@burninghandart what are you printing on. I tried to print onto watercolor paper today and it does the lines but it's just too thick for the printer. When I go back to my standard canvas, the lines disappeared
For photo prints with this printer do I need special ink or the ink that they sell on the Epson site t40w would work for high quality photo print? Also does this printer, print on adhesive vinyl? Thanks in advance for the help as I’m just now getting started
The normal epson t40w ink is actually archival inks and works fine on glossy paper. I've printed onto adhesive vinyl matte & glossy and had great results. I'm posting a review on that soon!
Hi can you help? Is polyester canvas okay for making bags with sewing? I want to buy some to use to sublimate but I don't want to waste money on a roll if I can't use it for that
Sorry I don't know anything about sewing. I can't say it'd be my first choice for bag fabric.
I want to do large format printing for photography. Love epson looking at the 8550. I've seen this one you're using also. I thought it was for drafting, too. I love large format. How's this printer you're using with glossy or mat pictures. Ty Barbara
I'm posting the glossy paper review tonight!
Thank you! I tried using the link, but it just took me to amazon home page
which link?
gotcha. Here's the updated amzn.to/3ZvWZNc
Hi, I would have a question: is it possible with this printer to print out wrapping paper? As you said, 24 inch wide, but like 78-79 inch high? Is it flexible how long you roll down from the paper roll, or is it fixed to an A1 size at the highest? Sorry, if this is a dumb question, but I don’t know whom to ask…I am considering buying one for printing wrapping papers from home and wondering, if this printer would work. Thanks a lot!
Ok, after rewatching the video I realised, you answered my question already, as you mentioned, you can print out 80 inch long, depending on the project. So, thanks and I am very grateful for all the other informations you provided, I cannot even tell!!
you're welcome another thing to note is that you cannot load super long rolls. i tried to load 100ft and it was too wide, but i can load 60 ft no problem
Really good review! Would you still recommend this printer? I want to be able to print 24x36in posters. I have some on wall I'm planning on scanning and reprinting. They have a gash from a bad fall :(
Yes. As long as you have the right print settings & can use a photo editor to adjust certain colors (like any printer) it works great.
Omg finding the right printer is turning out to be harder than creating the art! Can you please tell me if this printer will take any type of cotton canvas or muslin? Will the ink hold on a natural material or do you think ill be forced to treat it with something?
Thanks so much for doing this video so nicely!
you can definitely print onto cotton canvas although it will be thick. I have links but some of these are poly-cotton blends but the quality is amazing for the lyve or the chromata www.amazon.com/shop/shakiaharrisart/list/22JHJIFQ5M0DP?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsfshop_aipsfshakiaharrisart_D93HE2EV2V68XAK32EQP . Just make sure it's meant for inkjet I'm not sure about muslin. I've tried printing on watercolor paper but it was too thick . I think if you try something not meant for an inkjet you could risk wasting ink because it won't absorb as easily
Amazing review! Thank you! Does it print borderless? I'm also eyeing a Canon in a similar range, and it has an option that automatically cuts the paper roll once the print is finished.
it does not print borderless but it gets extremely close like within half an inch I believe. My collectors don't mind at all and have no issues with using the standard frames. Mine cuts the roll at the end of the job but you can turn that off if you want
@@shakiaharris_art thank you! very informative! :)
Hello shakia, thanks for such valuable information.❤
I am looking for big size printer ( between 24" to 36", also should print on sheet as well as on roll)
The running cost should not be too much. I looking into Epson because here Epson ink is available easily in compare to canon. My aim is to print art on canvas, matt, satin and luster. paper. Please suggest me some Epson printer. Thanks 🙏
I can only really vouch for this one, but I'll be sharing on my blog the other printers I considered at a later date. Review on glossy paper is posting tonight
Thank you for sharing this, very informative
Glad it was helpful!
How many prints can you get if you just print 24-18 with a roll of 150ft?...and how long the ink cartridges last?...if you know... Thank you much information is appreciated... love you're work
I use the XL ink cartridges (50ML for color and 80ML for black). The black I changed once a year and the color every couple months, it just depends. If you're doing 18x24 inch prints on a 150 ft roll (24 inch wide)you can get 75 with no space in between. I also print with a small white border, so I have space to sign and edition my prints.I can print about 50 18x24 in. prints before needing to refill my color. Obviously, that changes based on increasing saturation and print quality
Thanks for the reply, good to know. Do you find it uses a lot of ink? The cartridges seem very small. Would you know roughly how many 16" X 12" canvases you would get from a set?
You're welcome! order the XL cartridges (50 ml for color & 80 ml for black). The black cartridges last a year, the color cartridges last a couple months. It really just depends the scale and volume you're printing. I have nearly 100 prints and offer about 11 sizes, so I have a lot of options present at festivals. With my print settings I can do about 112 12x16" prints before refilling the XL 50ML Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow. I don't print on the "best" setting
Hello Shakia great video! What is the largest size print that you can make for me? Thank you
Hey Joyce I can do 24inches by anything. I limit to 24x36 because it's the most compatible with the art sizes that I paint. In theory I could provide a 24x48 inch print, but haven't had the use or demand for it yet. Hope that helps.
@ Thank you for your reply. I was hoping for something like 48x48. for the main print. Then have smaller ones to sell. Do your prints have a giclee’ type of texture?
@@JoyceCooper-h7j yes that's why I print onto canvas (290gsm) my collectors love it. The giclee moreso refers to the spraying method on the prints. You can always order sample packs from places to test different textures..there are a lot of options. You just can't really print onto watercolor paper with this printer. If you want a 48 inch print then you'll need to look into a 48 inch or 60 inch printer
@ do you have DM email ?
Just what i was looking for, thank you. What should i look for in buying a canvas roll for my surecolor T3160N? Is there any thickness restriction?
The only thing I wouldn't put into it is watercolor paper. Here's a collection of canvas I've tried and had a lot of luck with you'll just click a larger size if you want, but the great thing about epsons is that You can load a roll as small as 17 inches. Usually that's the tester size I'll buy before committing to the larger 24 inch roll. www.amazon.com/shop/shakiaharrisart/list/22JHJIFQ5M0DP?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsfshop_aipsfshakiaharrisart_D93HE2EV2V68XAK32EQP
Thank you @shakiaharris_art . I bought a 24" roll of Amazon and the results are great. Is there a way to Epson Print software with this printer? I want to create split canvas prints? Can it be done?
@@Saggi2025 What Gsm paper did you use on T3160N and whats the print quality? I am thinking of getting a same printer for my newly established canvas printing side hustle but can't get my head around all the specs?? TIA
Nice review. How do you feel about how it renders red? What about text quality?
with the reds you'll need to adjust the saturation, but once you do they're bright. Often I'll use capture one (it's like photoshop) or even canva to up the saturation. Text quality is good, i've used it to print posters with my bio on it and it looked really good. I'll be sharing that video soon

Hey? Is it good for Printing Human Portraits?
so, does this mean if i had a 10 foot canvas and a piece of art (3oinches by 40 inches) already sketched , i can save that sketch to my computer than print, put that sketch (30 inch by 40 inch) stretched onto the 10 foot canvas piece by piece?
im trying not to paint 10 foot canvases over and over again (epsecialy if i already sold that same art piece.)
i like your shirt!
in theory yes, but for that scale i think you'd want to get a larger printer (36in printer) and then get thicker poly-cotton canvas that's easy to stretch
thank you! It's a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu shirt I got competing at international events.
1:00 #archivalink to print art from my archive. Thanks vor the review. Greetings from Austria Robert
Thanks again!
This question has already been asked but I don’t think answered. Would watercolor paper work or does it have to be canvas ? Thank you …..I have been so confused looking at printers. ❤
I haven't been able to find large enough deckled edge 300 gsm watercolor paper to test. This printer will not accept smaller sizes & most of the watercolor papers I've seen are 8x6. To use the auto sheet feeder or rear feeder it has to be at least 8.25x11 inches.
I'm posting watercolor paper review tonight
New subscriber here just came across your channel. In researching this printer, I am a remote pilot and plan to take aerial photos for canvas prints, have you tested any other papers?
I've printed onto about 5 or 6 different types of polyester and poly-cotton canvas only.
When I'm testing I get the smaller 17 inch rolls and the nicest one and thickest is the lyve canvas, but it is wayyyyy to expensive for my setup & also my collectors don't know the difference or request it. If you were planning on stretching your canvas prints then the lyve canvas or chromata are excellent. You can get sample packs of canvas & paper from places like gicleetoday

Hi. Will this work to print film positive for screen printing?
I'm not sure. Sorry
Its bigger brother (T3270) is a gold standard for screen films and it uses the exact same ink. We’re planning on getting the T2170 soon
@@houseofswankclothing3144 that's awesome I had no idea. I have it linked in my description. I liked amazon's return policy & not charging to send it back
is there a way to use 24" x 50m rolls?
if it were 24 inches by 50 feet yes, but 50 meters converts to 164 feet and that's too big. I tried printing 24"x100 feet and it was too thick to print off the roll
I would consider this if it were one of epsons ecotank printers.
i totally understand. When I did the math, I didn't print enough (and I print a lot) to justify 1k+ price difference on "ink savings" it was the difference between $600 & $1650. I've had it two years and haven't even spent 1k in ink yet
The down side is it’s not eco tank and cartridges are way more expensive than buying just the ink
Can this print on vinyl?
yes! i just uploaded a review. it turned out really pretty
Would this printer be good for printing posters? Is it able to print poster-paper?
I'm sure it probably can. There may be some photos of someone completing that type of job on amazon.
Can you buy Glossy paper rolls to print on these or?
yes! There are several options for 24inch glossy instant dry papers but be forewarned this printer cannot accept 100 ft rolls. I usually purchase 60 ft long rolls and they fit perfectly! (2 inch core too). www.amazon.com/shop/shakiaharrisart/list/22JHJIFQ5M0DP?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsfshop_aipsfshakiaharrisart_D93HE2EV2V68XAK32EQP
I love your work! printer is cool too.
Thank you very much!
No chance you’ve tried using printable vinyl with this is there?
yes! I'm posting a video soon reviewing glossy and matte adhesive vinyl
I only want to sell my Prints and not my original Art, but my clients are asking for my art on canvas, how can I print to canvas? I am new to this?
if they want it unstretched (plan to frame it) then just buy inkjet canvas and use this printer. Link in description to instructional class step by step. If they want it stretched you will print with a white border so the white can wrap around a wood frame.
Hey Karen I have a whole class on doing the prints at shakiaharrisart.com
Can you make backdrops with this printer?
it's only 24inches wide, so you'd have to find a way to piece the strips together
Thanks so much!
Is it possible to use single sheets of large sizes such as A1?
yes. that size is 23.4 x 33.1 inches., so you'll have to use the "manual sheet feeder" and put them in 1 at a time. They're too big for the "auto sheet feeding tray"
i manually feed up to 24"
hope that helps. good luck!
2 years later - are you still satisfied with the Epson T2170? I am looking into canvas printing. I see that you offer teaching courses as well, are you still offering this?
I still love this printer. I'm so glad I chose this budget option although I've noticed it's about $150 more than when I first purchased it
can you print the DTF on this printer
I'm not sure, sorry!
That thing is a beast!
It's a workhorse for sure! I've made almost 20k off of prints alone using this baby (I primarily sell my prints in person at festivals).
Could vinyl be printed on this
Also are inks expensive
Since I've started selling more of the larger canvas prints I think the ink cost is reasonable given the output and printing volume. The color cartridges range from $22 to $42. If I sell 1 8x10 (I charge $41) then that pays for an individual cartridge. I average good canvas prints at sales at events , so that hasn't been an issue for me.
Would this printer print DTF sublimation please?……

Does this printer print 24" borderless?
24 in is not borderless. It gets really close (within a fourth of an inch) and when I've framed my prints (for ex: 24x36) I've had no issues filling the frame. Collectors haven't minded either. Only really an issue if I wanted to do 24in gallery wrapped canvas prints because there wouldn't be enough fabric on edges to wrap around stretcher bars. Hope that helps!
Would this printer be good for photographers?
If you're wanting to print 1 sheet at a time, it does have an autosheet feeder, but I never use it unless I have canvas scraps I don't want to waste. I primarily print on the roll (canvas) and it works great for me. If you're wanting to print your photography to sell at events or retailers I would say so. If you're primarily producing things like wedding albums, I haven't used it much to print actual photos of people enough to say definitively. It accepts most fine art paper and has several settings (see my other video). It also prints up to 2400 dpi with archival inks.
Hey i just printed some photos for my friend’s bakery opening. I did some food photography photos and a shot of her in the kitchen and they look amazing. I used 290 gsm canvas to print on and just sharpened the photos a little. I’ll post a video in the next week to show the finished product
@shakiaharris_art do you have this Video? I want to get this so I can print wedding photos on canvas for couples not sure if this is good for that. Will this printer work?
Glossy paper review coming tonight
Can you print on vinyl
yes! I'm posting a video soon reviewing glossy and matte adhesive vinyl
How big is the paper
i print on rolls that are 24inx 60 feet. Each individual job I print is 24x80inches. If you want individual sizes of the prints I'm holding, I say each as I present them (range 5x7 to 8x10 to 10x20 to 18x24, etc.)
What canvas do you use?

Printers need to be on all the time, epson printers do head clean automatically.. have a nice day
I leave mine on all the time. Mine is not set to do print head cleaning automatically. 2 years no problems. Have a great day!
I have $20. Take it or leave it. 😭
best of luck
This Epson looks like it gets the job done, but you need a lot of jobs to make the money back. I have a perfectly functioning Canon 9000Pro (13X19 inch) that I can no longer use because the driver software is not able to run on Mac operating systems newer than 2016. I had to use an old laptop that still ran the old operating system as a go between. Yes, it is an older model now, but really a giant waste of natural resources to see good products become "obsolete" only to increase profits: They make a Windows 11 driver but cut cost/increase profits not making one for the Mac also.
I got it for under $700 & for me that's only 6, 16x20in. canvas prints. I've shared before that I recouped all my costs within 1 craft festival. I attribute a lot of it to how I organize my booth, having several sizes available (larger helps tremendously), and having multiple designs to pick from. Sorry to hear about your Canon mishaps.
