It's like Resident Evil 4 (2005) ammo system but wack. I'm at chapter 6 carrying around Pulse Rifle, Line Gun and Contact Beam (ammo blueprint not unlocked yet) and all I'm picking is Contact Beam ammo and squat for Pulse Rifle and Line Gun 😡

Wow I literally just started playing this game and searched for a vid about this, and you've just dropped it. Thanks! Question for you - I am playing on hard and being super careful with ammo for the plasma cutter, storing as much as possible. Now does the game compensate for that later but making me use it up, does my caution help me or is it irrelevant? And vice versa, if I was really careless and used up lots of ammo, would the game give me plenty later to help me out? I'd hope it's neither and my caution counts for something. Love to know.

Honestly, Dead Space 1 is pretty generous when it comes to ammo for the most part and it's pretty difficult to find yourself in a position where you think "am I going to have enough ammo?" This is mostly due to the fact that:
      1. Dead Space 1 is considered an "easy game" by most people which is why Impossible mode has become the standard for most playthroughs.
      2. The Plasma Cutter is just an incredibly ammo efficient weapon due to it's high damage and high ammo count per pick up.
      3. The game gives an abundance of credits that you can just buy ammo with.
I wouldn't say your caution counts for nothing because in the second half of the game ammo drops are a little less frequent and enemies become tougher, therefore needing to use more ammo to kill (the amount of enemies you fight increases as well). It's definitely a good idea to pile up ammo in the beginning because you'll for sure be using it later but I don't think there's ever really a fear of not having enough ammo in a playthrough because the game will pretty frequently have a way to bail you out if you screw up at your resource management.
Hopefully that answers your question and let me know if you have any more! :)

Correction: I didn't buy Pulse Rifle, When I entered Chapter 3, I picked up pulse round schematics but didn't go to store. I brought schematics to chapter 3 as they kept being on my inventory. Then I dropped schematics on the floor, didn't go to store yet, went for beating first necromorph there, and he dropped me pulse rounds.
you can check my footage from stream record on my youtube, which starts from demonstrating how pulse round dropped for me. Unless carrying schematics in inventory and loading into level with it somehow affects the odds:

But what to do with this information? Do I only seek ammo for weapon I want to use (cutter), or have another weapon equipped so as to sell unused ammo drops?
