Oh, I do love watching you work Doug. You made me laugh at about 14 minutes just as you were painting the lintel you said “it looks like a real piece of wood.” I thought… Um…it IS a real piece of wood, made to look like another, older piece of wood! 🤣🤣 nowt derogatory, just thought it was funny. 👍🏻👍🏻
So much better than a CNC, laser cutter, or engraving machine video. People are losing/missing out on developing skills by not learning by hand, just pushing buttons on a computer. 🤠✝️🇺🇸
You have inspired me to make Bilbo’s door to his Bag End hobbit hole. I wanted two bookends for The Eden Press Lord of The Rings book set my wife got me for Christmas. May be a super fun project.
Very helpful, i have several carvings that Im reluctant to paint because I dont want to ruin them. Your painting videos definitely giving me more confidence in taking the next step.
Made my 1st door today using a sharp knife I have. Really enjoyable experience. I got lost in the moment. Definitely taking wood carving up for a hobby. I need to order some carving tools before I try the figures. 😁😁
Hey Doug, Thanks for the painting tutorial super helpful! Was also really nice to some of your advanced projects like the gnome home and lighthouse I'm sure everyone would like a showcase of your favourite carvings!
Thank you for your video I’m a fish taxidermist and fairly new to carving in taxidermy I find myself mixing and layering colors for shading I really like your painting videos I’m really good with an airbrush I’m not so great with a paint brush and like learning your shading and painting techniques you’ve done a lot in a few short videos to help my progress thank you
I love the way you explain everything. You make it make sense. I could listen to you talk all day! Actually, sometimes I do... watch your videos all day, when I get a free day 😆. Feed n wax has always been my favorite, too. I'm so glad you do these more than once. Especially because we all learn as we go. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. God bless
I like your crock for holding your water. I remember something like that we used to get a cheese spread in. But, it had a metal latch and lid over the top. Like an old bottle top. 😊
I confess that when I saw the doors, they look beautiful for a short span. Once I saw the carving video, I got exited; but after I saw the painting, I was in awe. You are very creative, patient and very, very talented. Thank you so much for sharing. Now... let's have coffee!
Thanks Doug!!! If some of your Viewers want to try your glass for preparing paint, they can use ceramic tiles. They can get them at Lowe’s, Home Depot, or flooring store. They come in 6, 12 or 16 inch square for around a dollar. Go to the clearance area for cheapest price. Remember to get smoothest finish to mix paint easily.
Awesome little door Doug, makes me wish I was a gnome😉 I can see you and your ducks walking out that door on the way to the creek. Great stuff, thanks for sharing 👍🏼
I think those doors are awesome.. I wish the doors lead you out into the woods for a camping canoe trip with some of your buddies because you guys always go to some beautiful places. I miss those days.
I love ya Linker. Been following you for a few years. ❤ Keep being you & living an awesome life. You’re a Huge inspiration on myself & my son. We love your videos. 🤘🏻
This takes me back to my table top miniatures painting days. Drybrushing the stones would work great too, though, it'd probably look a bit "chalky". Thanks for all your wonderful tutorials, Doug! Cheers! Edit: I guess I should have waited until the END of the video to post a reply - you DID drybrush.
Thanks Doug, that is awesome. I love it! I’m going to make a few myself thanks to this presentation. I have some ideas for where to put them and I know some people that will enjoy them as gifts. Roy
Love it!! Thanks for taking the time for the painting tutorial. Cold here in Kansas too, but this chick is gonna go out and try to catch some crappie today and do a little carving this evening to warm back up!
Just getting into the hobby. Loving it. And it’s all thanks to your videos. Keep them up and keep up the painting videos. I find it the hardest. Thank you.
Hey Doug, just wanted to say WOW to your art pieces you showed in your studio. Certainly a distinction to be made with work that is really "done-by-hand". Wishing you well!
Great instructional, Doug. How to paint wood to look like wood. 😉 You are actually showing up in my feed again. Been a deep rabbit hole since I initially started watching your coffee and bushcraft videos many yrs ago. Many carving knives later along with airbrushes coincide with the woodworking very well. TC and ATB, Cris.
Your painting/finishing are the best. My carvings went from kindergarten globby mess to Art School Master after watching your techniques Doug. LOL! I really loved how you did the stones on the sides of the door. The dry brushing of white really made them pop! My wife isn't too thrilled with my idea of cutting the baseboard trim, along the floor, so I can insert a few of these doors here and there. 😂 I told her to blame you!
Thanks for all the great content! I don't comment much, but your little projects inspire me to carve more. This one and the little gnome 1x1 are just fun.
WoW ! That turned out amazing! I can’t wait to start on mine, which it will look nothing like yours, but it will be fun to try! I haven’t been carving very long at all but I really am enjoying it and you are the best teacher! thank you so much for showing us how you painted it also! kiM from Alabama😊
You definitely are you one of the best teachers out there. Thanks for sharing your skills with us
He is the Bob Ross of doors. 😁

Thank you for not playing annoying music while you work. 😉
It was fun watching your video. I especially liked your little laughs and snickers while you painted. Great inner child showing through. ❤️
Thanks for the tips on painting. I've goofed many times by not treating the wood prior to painting. Good tip .. be well
That lighthouse is excellent. I’m gonna throw out the ones I’ve made. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I'd like to put some of these outside on a tree trunk. What would I use in place of the wax finish?
Applying the dry-brush white paint really made the stone ridges stand out. Another excellent video. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talents.
Perfect, it turned into stone right before our eyes. 👍
