    Computers, clothes and toys once poured off China's production lines, destined for the West. Now the factories are closed, millions are out of work and Chinese officials fear serious political unrest.
    "All of the orders vanished" says Tanley, the owner of a toy factory in Dong Guan, known as 'the factory of the world. He's seen factory after factory close since the autumn of last year. Often, owners flee without paying their staff. For the 30 million Chinese now thought to be unemployed, there is no safety net. But the government is stepping in to control the large protests evolving out of sudden plant closures. "We all know the workers are working in the worst situation in the world" says radio DJ and former Tiananmen Square protester, Han. But he believes the crisis has forced the government to address labour rights. "It's a bad image to arrest workers for going on strike for legal payment - they don't want to exacerbate the tensions" he says. It's 20 years since the massacre at Tiananmen Square. Now at the sharp end of this economic crisis, the government is doing everything it can to prevent a revolt.

    Its bound to happen sooner or later. Now the factories are moving to Vietnam and India and in 20years down when their operating cost rise too high and their profit margin drop they will move again. I have seen it a dozen times in the 60s was Japan then Hong Kong follow by south America now its Vietnam and India's turn. Who knows in 20 to 30 years time maybe Africa?

      It is happening in Africa, Vietnam, and a host of poor Eastern European countries. You are right on those fronts, but it's not 20 years later, it is happening.

      ualuuanie youre right, thry are now producing in Africa, even Zara, H&M and alikes brands are in Africa. Bangladesh are still having the vast of garment industry for export. They are still competitive due to the low cost. Vietnam and India for the hard goods.

    What goes around comes around. When labor cost we’re too high in the US, factories outsourced to China. Now again they are outsourced to Vietnam and the Philippines. When their wages rises above the USA minimum wages the factories there will finally return home for the lower labor cost here. It is just a matter of time.

    That was then(2009), this is now(2018). China has a large middle class now. Which means it creates demand to Stimulate economic activity. U.S. unemployment rate is just 4%. Things have gotten much better now.

    What are the problems in China. First it is nothing to do with economy it is because of huge family they have to support and with minimal wages. Also most young people are unmarried because of family stress and they take to drugs and drinking which leads to more problems. And the many working hours because of production demands. Some are extremely rich but that is difficult to maintain because of competition and they move mostly.

    It's sad to see there are millions of factory workers suffered from industrial illnesses. They work so hard in poor conditions to make a living but, in the end It's worse than living in the village with little money, at least they have their health. These victims are left to die without any trouble to the government, I can assure you that.

    This video was made in 2009. Now it is 2019. Ten year hiatus is a life time in China. No update because it may present a different picture. Unemployed factory workers in the USA eventually become homeless. You see their tents under bridges and sidewalks. Most unemployed workers in China return to their ancestral home with their grandparents and receive local social benefits. They also have small plot of land home grown vegetables. This video is a prime example of foreign biased reporting.

    • @khav11
      @khav11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you think it's more glorious to live with their grandparents lol? CHINA" on the rise for 20 years" yet can't surpass the U.S.A, also the middle class in america is much stronger thanks to trump, obama was a failure that's why the us has a much stronger GDP
