China s economic downturn has badly hit the millions of migrant workers who leave their remote villages for the industrial South. At the world' s factory, competition is fierce and jobs are scarce.
" There are over 2000 people in our village. About 700 of them go to Guandong looking for jobs. The older people stay at home working the fields. " In rural China, the young leave their homes in droves to find better paid jobs in the city. Like millions of others, Xiong Yan is desperate to find work, so that she can help provide for her family. " My family is poor. Usually I' ll send them my salary. "
At the overcrowded employment agency, dozens anxiously wait to get an appointment. "They' re left with no social security, healthcare, or education rights in the city. Salaries are very low. " Dr Kaiming s NGO specialises in the rights of migrant workers. He believes they have been exploited by employers with the blessing of a government that had its eyes set on economic growth at any cost. "The biggest threat is that unemployed migrant workers may start to protest against the government" says Dr Kaiming. Discontent is growing but migrants in search of work keep flooding in. Although new labour laws were introduced, the economic climate means job seekers will have to accept lower wages and worse conditions.

Chinese population is so big, there is not enough work to supply the the entire work force, still they are lucky enough from foreign investors who build business there.

I was living in China during that time. .. actually the "Great Recession" did not hit China nearly as bad as it hit USA. Though at the time I did get a pay reduction so I quit the job. Went back to Canada a few months later and tried to find work during the peak of the crises. . took a few months but found work. Actually living in CHina I had know idea how big the recession was. I bet most of the people in this doc are making double or more what they did in 2009

The Chinese were smart to put the one child policy and control the growth otherwise the growth would control them. And yeah this sport is cruel, but there are lobbies in China consisting of like minded people who are trying to get rid of this practice and make it illigal.

I think things are improving for some in China but it is still screwed up. This may be an old documentary but since this video you have a leader that has declared himself ruler indefinitely. China’s super wealthy don’t invest in China but Western real estate and business. The masses live in poverty breathing dirty air. I never buy produce from China because I have seen the polluted water they use to irrigate their already polluted fields. Has anyone seen the documentary on the ghost cities they build that sit vacant just so they can keep GDP up? Meanwhile the poor in the cities live in crowded, squalid conditions in the shadows of these vacant cities. There is a reason the Chinese immigrate to the West but few Westerners would choose to live there.

added to all that, an enormous women shortage for the male population! 😱
Killing girl babies for decades is a very deserved outcome of Chinese communist attempts at trying to manage population growth...and millions of single male "comrads", with no one to marry will make a lot of problems for China.

    • @ByDesign333
      @ByDesign333 5 ปีที่แล้ว

And due to decades of murdering their girl babies ...millions of men in China have no way to have a wife....not good for China's future!!!

China needs to split up into autonomous states government
Governed by different ministers who essentially priorities their states
So that this overpopulation shit ends
Or split up into 5 countries who are loyal to each other and form a greater country china
And pledge their loyalty to Beijing
But still are independent in everything aside from loyalty and ownership
It would work better if their was still an emperor in china

I told many of your guys don't watch any documentaries about China filmed more than 5 years ago. This one was filmed 9 years ago, but to me it's like last century. The situation has drastically changed. China's population is projected to decline in 2024. And for most of the people you see in this documentary, their wages have probably already doubled.

  • @hpaul2864

. China’s growth on the world economy is “one of the greatest achievements in world history”. The poverty rate went from 88% to less than 1% and life expectancy increase by more than 10 years. And many more great achievements can be added.
