Aloha Everyone! It’s Lynn with iHula Hawaii, where I am bringing the hula of Hawai‘i to you. In today’s video, we are going to do more hula basics, where we’re going to dance the kāholo and the hela, incorporating some simple basic arm movements.

But I’ve also added in more of a challenge… in our kāholo, we’re going to do what’s called a kāholo square, where we dance right & left and then turn our bodies in the right directions (again dancing right & left) until eventually, we’ve created a square with our kāholo. I hope it’s not going to be too confusing for you - just turn around and face the screen as we are facing the opposite directions and making sure we’re both going the same way (that sounded confusing!).
Again I am dancing backwards so just simply follow along.
Now the song that we are going to be dancing to is the Brothers Cazimero’s “Aloha E Kohala.” Their music really allows me as a dancer to feel the music, as well as want to move my body to the hula, and I hope you get to experience that same feeling as you follow along.

Aloha Lidia for subscribing and responding. I'm glad you appreciate my style of teaching in "mirror image." It took a lot of practice to be able to dance regular and backwards. Sometimes I still get confused, but when I teach in my live classes, it allows me to see my dancers and correct their motions if needed.
I started hula finally with ihulahawaii❤️after 4yrs retiring classic ballet profession. I'll do little by little.

I just discovered your channel today. Wonderful! The music and scenery are just beautiful, breathtaking! You are lovely and you are so calming. I've watched two videos and have danced along several times with each. I have a request. It would really help me a great deal if you were to wear leggings or shorts in 1 or 2 videos to see the mechanics of the hips and leg movements. I feel like I am doing it all wrong and I would love to be able to see exactly how you are doing those movements. I know it is traditional and so elegant to wear a dress but just to see these movements would be so helpful. Thank you so much.

Can you please do a step-by-step tutorial for the square? I know it is super simple, but for some reason my brain cannot figure it out.
