I used to live on Oahu and learned hula dancing as a child. I'm now living in Mexico and have a friend who can't hear. My hula hand gestures have been a great aid in our conversations. This is wonderful. Thank you!
Hi! My name is Sela, I come from a Māori family in Utah and even though my ancestors aren't exactly from the same islands as you, your channel still helps me feel connected to them. 🖤🌿Mihi ki a koe!
I'm from Michigan and I began taking Hula lessons in March. Been to O'ahu in 2011 and 2019. I miss it every day, but I love the spirit of aloha and so, wanted to learn the Hula to bring the spirit into my daily life.
Previous Kama aina in my teen years. I left a piece of my heart in Hawaii and I consider it my 2nd home. I just found your channel and I am loving it. It brings me back to the place I love. Now, WAY past my teen years, over the hill is in my rear view mirror and I’m descending down the other side and living in Atlanta, Ga.
Aloha from Naples in Italy, I just love Hawaiian culture and hula, I'm gonna try learn it in a correct in order not be disrespectful with this beautiful culture, mahalo for this lessons♥️
Hello 👋 Thanks for teaching. I'm from south Korea. I've just started to do the Hula. You are giving me precious authentic tips for Hula. Thank you so much 💓
Australian-Japanese learning from a yacht in the mediterranean! Thank you so much for these tutorials, have been waiting to learn hula ever since I was younger and watched Lilo and Stitch!
hello from Bolivia, Yes my yearning is to one day visit or live in Hawaii. I always loved this dance, and how it is related to nature itself speaking with its own language . Now that I am over 50 I am trying to learn hula dance following some videos and I found you. Thanks for sharing this with the world.
I’m a retiree from Northern California. I recently enrolled in a Hula class. Since I am new to a continuing class, I am the new kid on the block who is not familiar with the basics on hand motion so this video is perfect for me. Thank you.
Hi! Learning from Orlando, FL but my Aunt taught me a hula when I was little. It was a wish for a safe journey and we always did it in the driveway as the other drove away after a visit. She died almost 5 years ago but we still always do that hula to say goodbyes to loved ones. I’ve always wanted to learn more about hula and be able to do more and found your channel during COVID lockdown, using this tough time to learn new skills has been a blessing and this one has also allowed me to feel connected to a beloved family member long since passed. Thank You
Hi! I live in Japan and started Hula lesson near by local community center. As very beginner, I really want to learn everything about Hula from you. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
I'm from Massachusetts and I'm so happy to have finally found a good tutorial for hula! The hula dance just seems so peaceful and calming and I've been wanting to learn it for years now so thank you! 😊🌺
Aloha Kumu from San Diego. I'm a retired kumu myself. I visited the islands in 1970 and fell in love with the hula. Returning home to Los Angeles, I found a wonderful woman who taught Polynesian dance and eventually became her alakai'i. She had beautiful hands like yourself and her trick was to tape our middle and fourth fingers together and those fingers would curl down and up on the underside of our thumb. It also kept our thumbs from jutting out. When I moved to SD and had my own halau, I didn't tape fingers but spent many hours working on hand technique. So many of the new teachers have gone away from the gentle hula hand and instead use the more rigid kahiko hand for auana. I enjoy your videos as they take me down memory lane as I have danced most of the songs you have posted. Mahalo nui loa!
Mahalo for sharing your comment and I'm honored to have you as a retired kumu learning these hula from me. That trick with the tape is such a great idea - that sounds like how my kumu hula used her move her fingers - I would just be in awe when she did her hula hands. I too appreciate the gentle hand. I so appreciate you sharing!
Good morning I’m watching you from Brooklyn New York I go to Senior Center I’m the youngest one of all I am 47 and they want to do a Hawaiian theme in September so that’s why I am watching you right now and learning the steps so I can bring it to the centre and show them how to do it so this way when we do our performance will know what to do thank you so much for allowing me to learn from you I’m a fast learner and I’m from Puerto Rico
Aloha Kimberley Murphy! Mahalo for subscribing and sharing your comments. Which part of Hawaii did you grow up in? Yes, dancing the hula will definitely help to relax and at times challenge, but will always tie you back to the island. Enjoy!
Aloha from Henderson, Nevada! We're starting a hula club at Heritage Courtyards, a 55+ active adults community. Thank you for your video tutorials. I will update you how we are doing. Mahalo! Marife

Now the halau has disbanded and I had numerous health issues but have never lost my love for hula. I'm excited to learn with you.

Hi, I'm watching from Burbank, CA. I have been doing Hula for many years, but I have had very little formal training. Your videos really help. I am always looking for ways to improve my dancing. My husband and I have visited Hawaii almost every year for the past 18 years, but we had to cancel this year (due to COVID, of course). We would have been there this month, so my heart and soul are missing the Hula. Mahalo nui for your videos.
