    I have only been making cards since last January. The very first video I watched was your Crafty Things videos of 2015. I was so inspired, I actually ordered some things to start making cards. (I was actually into scrapbooking and still do some). I get such satisfaction sending cards to my friends around the country and abroad and I made 20 Thank you/Thanksgiving cards for my husband to give to his clients this year! Thank you for sharing your videos with us and for being such an inspiration!

    Thank you Jennifer, wish I had seen this video earlier. You have answered so many of my question in this video. I have been having so much trouble with my Big Shot Pro. I now have the right platforms and shims and hopefully a new handle will arrive in the mail soon - the handle that came with my machine didn't fit onto the machine because there was a bit of slag on the inside of the cast.Jen

    I had to laugh at your comment about a paper bomb going off around you. I feel like that sometimes, too! I'm definitely getting that magnetic bowl. Those little pieces of metal have stuck my fingers far too many times! Thanks for sharing!

    Oh my word! That magnetic bowl is pure genius. I actually have stepped on fly away little die pieces a couple time and hurt my bare foot badly. I have a sizzix tool similar to the Spellbinders one too and felt the same way you did originally. I need to pull it out again and make sure to use it more. Love the microfiber cloth catcher idea. :)

    I've been looking everywhere for information on the die cut machine and what I'd need to purchase in order to use it completely right out of the box. Even asking Sizzix direct did not yield up an answer, I'd almost given up on ever wanting one,

    Love your videos. I have to tell you that I broke a toe with a tiny die. It was falling off of my desk and I was afraid it was going down the heat register. I tried to grab it and the corner of it hit my toe. What are the chances? Now I wear shoes (not sandals) when I am crafting!

    Will the metal adapter plate work in the vagabond? I'm scared of damaging my vagabond and I know sizzix has a metal precision base plate for intricate dies. Which one should I use for my vagabond?

  • @kim00mik

    Thanks, Jennifer! Your videos are essential especially for new crafter like myself. Question for you - do you try to "conserve" or maximize the paper when you die cut? I find myself trying to place word dies as close to the edge of paper as possible so I can maximize the usage footage of the paper, but I don't see many youtubers do this in videos. Is it because it takes too long to position for the videoing or is it not worth the time and effort? Just want to learn the most efficient ways from experienced crafters. I find myself saving scraps of the die cuts (like the insides of o's and a's) - maybe as confetti of a future shaker card? But maybe maybe that's too "trashy" (literally!!) 😀 what are your thoughts on being TOO thrifty with the paper?

    • @jennifermcguireink
      @jennifermcguireink  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      in real life i conserve a lot. use scraps. but in videos, i try to keep things clean and tidy for the viewers.

    This might seem silly considering how many dies you have, but would you ever consider a cutting machine, like a cricut or a silhouette? I am a more of a scrapbook/ multi-media crafter but I LOVE watching your videos for different techniques and updates in the cardmaking world. As others have said, I value your professional opinion and was wondering if you have any concerning cutting machines? Ah and THANKS SOOO MUCH as usual for your time and effort! >_

    I had never heard of dies before, but I have heard of Tim Holtz. When I was on my computer looking on his channel, the recommendation came up as "Tim Holtz Dies" I panicked as I thought he had died! My relief when I found out that he was alive and kicking!! That's how I came to find out what dies were. Phew.

    Thanks for your great recommendations and for posting the links. I would also suggest checking out ScrapbookPal as shipping is free for orders of $25+. Also, my husband gave me some toothbrush-sized "detail" brushes with metal and nylon bristles that are very cheap at hardware stores for removing the debris . I've seen many negative reviews for the over-priced Spellbinders tool.

    Hi Jennifer! I've had great success using thin plastic grocery shopping bags to help all those little pieces pop out of intricate dies. I basically cut a piece of the bag to fit over the die I'm using and sandwich it between the paper and the die. Everything pops out like a dream! I saw this tip in a video from a manufacturer who said that this leaves no residue on your dies like fabric softener sheets or wax paper can. Hope this helps!

    • @jennifermcguireink
