Jennifer I have to say you have been my secret mentor! This Christmas marks 1 year that I've been designing cards and a lot of what I know I learned watching your videos and reading your blogs. So thank you for all you do for me and so many others!
EXCELLENT video Jennifer! I love the tip about how to prevent the corners of the SSS pad from curling up! I've come to the realization that from now on, when it comes to purchasing craft tools (particularly the ones that are more expensive), I am going to wait for your "Favorite Crafty Things" video. I live in Canada and because I order a lot of supplies from the States, you "have" to get it right the first time when you are ordering because it is too expensive to send back. Your series is such an invaluable resource for me Jennifer and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.....what can I say except, "YOU ROCK". Gentle hugz my dear
Hi Jennifer, I took the plunge and purchased the MISTI tool. I was not good at stamping until the MISTI tool. In fact, I stayed away from stamping unless it was simple. I dreaded not getting a good impression the first time and to have to do it a second time was excruciating. I cannot say enough good things about it. I am so glad that I invested in the tool, and better paper, of course. The MISTI has helped my stamping tremendously. Thank you for your videos, all of them.
Hi Jennifer ~ When I went shopping after this broadcast, I picked up the EKSuccess Tweezers (with a 50% off coupon, of course!!) shown in this video. These tweezers are incredibly awesome, for much the same reasons I stated in regards to the MISTI. Completely takes the pressure off of the nerves in my hands and allow for much better placement of small items. Thank you so much for all you do for all of your followers, you'll never know just how much you mean to all of us. #sharehandmadekindness
I have a friend in the states that got one of these for me for $US60 and she is bringing to me in Australia this Christmas. Here these cost $140. Now that's a high price point. Love you work!
Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. I know all the work you have done behind the scenes and on your blog prior to filming not to mention the time it makes to edit and then get the video uploaded. You are appreciated!
Thank you so much for your informative videos. You are my new crafty enabler along with Lydia. I have learned so much about the products I already own and ones I just had to buy after watching one of your videos. I'm a tools person so this is one of my favorite videos along with so many others you have created.
Hi Jennifer ~ Another great video; thanks so much. I use several of the tools you presented, some of which I purchased because of your recommendation. The MISTI has been a life-changer for me. After a serious fall left me with numbness and nerve pain in my hands, I haven't been able to make cards/craft as much as I'd like. The MISTI takes so much pressure off of my hands, that I feel elated!! Thanks for another great video and for keeping the rest of us paper crafters so well informed. #sharehandmadekindness
I really enjoy all your videos, and I have been looking forward to this series. After a rough day at work, it's a great way to unwind...and send links to the hubby for my wish list. Thank you!!
Thank you Jennifer, I have been looking at the envelope punch board for a while and almost bought it this morning and then I saw the 123 board! So I have bought that instead, I am sure it will come in very handy as it is hard to get A2 envelopes here and I need them! And also the Fiskars trimmer with the wire guide - looks like a great tool and will beat my little Fiskars A5 guillotine trimmer hands down. Thank you so much for all the tips!
I really appreciate that you make these videos; they are jam packed with helpful info. Thanks for showing the t ruler again for lining up sentiments, this ought to help till I am able to get that misti: also I was really glad you mentioned that the big shot will be coming out with an electronic version. After multiple surguries on my hands this may help me die cut more frequently again. Just wanted you to know I may not comment all the time simply because I generally watch on my tv, but please do know that I really enjoy your videos a lot. You are very creative and seem like a truly kind, loving, sweetheart of a person. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Thank you! Always learn something new and I always like how you tell us we don't always need everything. I think we all have a habit of wanting everything and end up with quite a lot of NBUS! I do have trouble with my Fiskars trimmer and am going to see if it's because of the position I sit in when I craft. It varies in how well I find it cuts.
Wow what a great video.. I'm going to watch again because there was so much to take in and I want to take notes. I go into a craft store and never know what to get. So this time I'm going to have notes or a list for on line ordering. Oh I got the Heidi Swap mini lamina tor or foil tool. I decided to get it. ha ha ha..Thanks Jennifer for great tutorials. pat...oh and MY Milwaukee died so now I know to get the Wagner. pat
Awesome video thanks for your Favorite Tool shares. I actually saw some things that I've never seen before and definitely would be a great addition to my craftroom. So thanks for you great review and demonstrations. YOU so ROCK!! Joan Smith
Another fantastic Crafty Things video!!! The information shared is very much appreciated. Have you considered doing a video that include trimmers that also scores? TFS
Being from another age (I'm 55) couldn't help laughing about how different child safety is now (not that I don't agree; I just can't help being amused). I can clearly remember having a Big A** guillotine paper trimmer in my first grade classroom; the type with no guard that could take off a hand, not just a finger. Sometimes I wonder how we survived :) Though, sometimes, I think we were taught to respect dangerous equipment rather than being shielded from it to encounter it later with no experience. I can STILL hear my mother's voice in my head, when a toddler, yelling at me to never run with scissors in my hand. The MISTI has taken so much "fear" out of my stamping and saved me a lot of materials. It took me a while to understand to use it EVERY time I stamp a sentiment, but I learned to be very sorry when I didn't bother to use it. I've now realized I'm terrible at lining up stamps by eye (even using my grid mat and blocks with grids). I've gone from discarding several nearly finished cards due to wonky sentiments, to having every card turn out perfect enough for my OCD nature. I'm probably one of several people that encouraged Iliana to return to the laser etched lid (I talked her into making me one from spare parts during the screen etched era because I'm a compulsive cleaner). I'm so happy she has returned to laser-etched lids that I bought a second MISTI so I could have a back-up, or be able to stand to share one. Also, I've fallen in love with multi-step stamps (i.e. Altenew layered flowers, etc.). I used to shun them because I wasn't happy with the results. Now I can get a perfect image every time. It's also almost a necessity for solid stamps (another genre I've avoided in the past), I LOVE being able to stamp a solid stamp several times in the exact same spot. I know it's possible with a Stamp-a-Ma-Jig; but I always seem to move the jig before I'm done. And, how wonderful for stamping on "closed" die cuts! Another task that would be painful without my MISTI. I've been "all et up" with the Scene It and Petite Places stamps and dies from PTI. I shudder to think about trying to stamp on those small die cuts without using the negative space technique in my MISTI. I think the MISTI is the best value for the money I've ever invested in my stamp room. I promise I'm not on the Sweet Petunia payroll. I've heard some people say they can't understand why they might need this tool, but the day I heard about it, I had several dreams that night about how I would use it to improve my stamping and ordered one right away. I guess it's up to how good you are at lining up stamps and how much OCD is in your nature. Either you HAVE to have it, or could live without it. Oh yes, the Molotow masking pen is the BOMB!; I have several in different tip sizes. And, I love that the Tim Holtz Tonic trimmer is 6" wide for card makers; I liked my old, small Tonic trimmer recommended by Julie Ebersole, but was disappointed it wasn't quite wide enough to accurately cut card bases (though I adore my Teflon bone folder that she convinced me to get; my second most "can't live without tool" after my MISTI). I ordered the Tim Holtz trimmer while typing this comment, thank you for telling me about it. I learned about using Swiffer cleaning cloths from you. Bless you! I hated the old, sticky glitter cleaning cloths, the Swiffer cloths are SO much nicer to use. If you are ever in the market for a precise rotary trimmer for large projects, I highly recommend the Rotatrim Mastercut model. It has two bars to guide the cutter so you don't have to worry about "wiggle". It is very sturdy, heavy (and expensive) but gives the most accurate cuts of any of the 10 plus paper trimmers I've tried. I wish I'd bought it first; it would have been cheaper than discarding all the unsatisfactory paper cutters I tried before finding it.
When you do your trimmer video, can you state which trimmer will cut thick materials like chipboard or specialty papers. Your videos are so informative. Thank You.
Jennifer, I just love your work and creativity. I look forward to watching your videos weekly. Thank you for a being an inspiration to us all. Oh by the way can you please tell me what font was used if any for the word "Kindness is Magic" Thanks again. Vanessa
Looking to buy a trimmer to cut Planner dividers to sell on Etsy so, I need a straight cut. I'm intrigued by the Tim Holz trimmer but, I'm not sure if it will be big enough? I will make A5 , personal and use 12x12 scrape book paper some time. I looked at the Tonic Sudio's trimmer in the 12", it's $50.00 plus dollars. If you think the Tim Holz will work, that would be great. I have a small Fitzers trimmer and I do not like it. Left handed girls have trouble with a straight line. I'm hooked on embossing, foiling and working with velum. Learned so much from you and enjoy seeing your sweet girl and puppy on Instagram. Thanks, Mary PS- my girl is 16 years old ,no more babies for me:)
Is the Misti stamping tool more easily available at this time. I tried to get one when I first heard about it, but they were back ordered and very expensive. Thank you for your input on the other tools. Some I already use and some I am interested in using.
Have you done the review of your paper trimmer ? Because, I'd want to buy a Fiskars as well. I've tried 2 unknown brands but they're not accurate : there is a difference of 1mm between the top and the bottom of my paper. And this is driven me crazy !
I love your work and the tools you use I purchased the misti because of your recommendation:-) sad to say the customer service I received from Iliana was aweful !! Will never order from them ever!! However I am still a fan of yours
.... I have had to replace the titanium blades 6 times in 1.5 years. Fiskars was really good to replace the peice with the wire but i can't seeem to stop ithe wire from unravelling and catching my blade. I'll have to check out the other trimmers you recommend.
Thank you. This was very helpfull. What kind of printer do you have. Because I have the Mini Minc but its not working. So someone said I need a other printer but am not sure to which one to buy. Please let me know
I am planning on investing in a paper trimmer. I have read reviews on the friskars sure cut saying that the wire frays or it makes uneven cuts etc. Is it still your go to paper trimmer? Do you use the precision pro. I know you did a review on it n 2013. I just don't feel like I need one quite that large and heavy duty. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Nice reviews and the misty still looks attractive, thank you ~ Do you have a solution for measurement wear? ~ My lightweight fiskars trimmer is black framed, silver / aluminum bed, has an arm pull out plus a sheer blue ruler attached with orange covered blade. The measurements, on the bed, have worn away making it almost useless although all else remains in good order, ugh!
If you go to Fiskars.com and find the warranty information tab, click on it. You can send them a picture, and they will replace the trimmer if it is due to their poor design (which the printing wearing off of a lot of the trimmers was). They are SUPER good about standing behind their products! I would love to hear if you get a replacement.
Hi there! I have been watching quite a few of your videos, and I have a huge interest in card making! If I decided to start making cards, what are the must-haves for beginner card makers? Thank you!
Hi Jennifer! Could you recommend some tools/supplies for a rookie card maker? I just started making cards and I'm hoping to get or build a card-making kit. Thanks for posting, as always:).
I have the fiskars trimmer and also the guillotine one. The cutter never cuts straight. When I pull the blade down, the end of it is always pushed back a little and ends up being like sharp point to the side. I don't know if it makes sense but I'm wondering if the Tim holtz would be better at that or are the the guillotine ones the same ? I love the trimmer though. Also, will the cutterpillar rotary blade cut through fun foam or foamcore board ? I suck at the cutting mat and rotary/craft knife method. Can't get anything straight or cut through and I do a lot of centerpieces where I need to cut through those materials. Any tips would be appreciated
+torresxrocks I have a Swingline guillotine that I purchases over a year ago and I paid a lot of $ for it ($180.00). I have tried and tried again but to be completely honest, I hate it! The problem I find with guillotines is that you "must" hold the paper down really firm because as they blade comes down, the blade seems to pull the paper into it, particularly at the bottom of the cut. I rarely get a straight cut and it is so frustrating for me because I really think it affects the overall look of the card, even if it is off by just a "hair". Just my two cents worth.
+Kookies40 So kind of you to try and assist me. Yeah, the problem is that the Swingline that I have does not have a press bar. Too bad because that probably would have taken care of the issue. It is upsetting to me because as I stated earlier, I paid a lot of money for it, and trust me, even when I lien into it with my weight so that my hand/palm is holding down the paper, it tends to slide a "touch" making for an uneven cut....urrrr. Funny how things work out isn't it - I ended up purchasing the Fiskars paper trimmer that Jennifer recommends which was a quarter of the price. Lesson learned however because now (even though I've only been paper crafting for about a year, I research the heck out of whatever I am buying to ensure a quality product. I live in Canada so if I purchase something from the States (which includes 70% of my products) it has to be an informed decision because it is too expensive to send back and I'm stuck with it. Anyway, thank you for your kindness Kookies40
Would I be able to get "Swiffer" cloths over here in Scotland? That is one of the reasons I've "postponed" learning to use glitter or embossing powder. I have very limited crafting space, and HAVE to keep it as tidy and clean as possible. Thank you for your time in making all your videos, they are very informative for a crafting beginner like me. Happy New Year x
+Elaine Sever We R Memory Keeper told me you need to use a glass mat (they sell one) or a silicone mat. I have an inexpensive silicone one by Inkadinkado called a "stamping surface" that doesn't melt (plus it's great for stamping too). :)
+Elaine Sever If you don't want to buy an expensive mat, go to your local dollar store and in the kitchen section you'll find a silicone mat. If you want to use a glass mat, you can also use a glass cutting board.
? I have a question, please. What paper do you use to make 5x7 envelopes? Also, my brain cannot wrap around 1900 cards. OMG! Thank you for this very informative video.
+9687loveless yes, as i mentioned in the video, some people have trouble with it. i am guessing it just depends on how you use it - how you pull the blade. not sure what it is but most people love it. it is always straight for me. but i shared the others in case.
+9687loveless I have the same problem. I have bought numerous cutters and I have not found one that cuts right. I'm starting to think my card stock is not cut exact. My cuts seem to be off by at least and eighth of an inch.
+9687loveless I used to have this issue, don't laugh, but I've found that when I draw the blade towards myself and exhale at the same time I get a better cut. I think when I push the blade I might wiggle it more. I know it may seem silly, but it works for me, and I'm hoping that this may be something that works for you. My issue with this Fiskars cutter is that my little wire guide frazzles and falls apart. I have tried replacing the wire guide a few times, and I just keep using the cutter because I love it so much. I also love the big version of the green paper cutter, but I don't have a lot of desk space to use it, so I don't use it as often as I should.
I have the same issues too and am planning on spending a lot of time trying to work out if I need to change my crafting position to make sure it cuts straighter. I don't want to get rid of it or end up spending more money on other tools that I might not use :) Or else I'll exhale when I trim!!!
About the stamping on die-cuttings (sorry if it's wrong, but I'm french so....), isn't it easier to stamp first then do the die-cutting ? There's something else I would like to ask you. As I was saying, I'm french and I don't get the "Distress" stuff, I don't what they are supposed to do. Can you help me ? Thanks for your always great inspiring videos ! Love from France !
Hi! To me, "distress" products, such as the Tim Holtz Distress Inks, are designed to give an "antiqued" or aged look to your materials. Distress inks are designed so they do not stamp as solid an image as other inks do, giving that aged look--similar to a look you might get on a painted wooden object that you have lightly sanded the edges or raised design on-to bring about the antique look. Instead of using them to stamp with like other inks, many crafters use them more directly on the paper (such as using them to ink the edges of a card layer or other paper piece). Tim Holtz is known for his lines of products that have the distressed or "vintage" theme--they are quite beautiful. Look for some of his videos here on youtube on using his Distress Inks and other products to learn different techniques you can use on paper crafts.

I've had the wire break twice, but it's easy to replace if you are a beaded and have multi strand beading wire, crimp beads and crimping pliers
my fiskars did n't come with that wire witch I didn't know about at the time and just trashed it this video is very helpful thank you Vicky:) Texas

Please let me know
i would love a misti, another thing to save up for lol. great video as usual very useful
Thank you... that it very interesting; never thought to ask them. I am curious to try!
Hi there! I have been watching quite a few of your videos, and I have a huge interest in card making! If I decided to start making cards, what are the must-haves for beginner card makers? Thank you!
You can get started with next to nothing but a paper trimmer is good investment. Be warned its addictive 😊
+CraftynotShifty +Emily Laumer I started with very very little and became addicted very easily.... I love it though :)
+Emily Laumer just pick a few of the basic tools from these videos. you will love it!
Be sure to check out Jennifer mcguires 2014 favorite crafty tools. Good place to start

Jennifer...I wanted to ask if there's two kinds of Fiskars amplify scissors...I saw one at Wal-Mart but it says fabric
Hi Jennifer! Could you recommend some tools/supplies for a rookie card maker? I just started making cards and I'm hoping to get or build a card-making kit. Thanks for posting, as always:).
+Cindy Poon this is a great video series to decide what you might need. i will do a beginner video in the future.
Thanks Jen!

+Kookies40 I press down with all my weight. I never ask for help unless I've tried everything... I am stuck :(
I have some of your recommended tools which i love as well but I am disappointed with the Fiskars trimmer. I craft about 2 hours a week on average
+J9cardstock yes, as i mention in the video - people LOVE it or hate it. Not sure the difference!
Thank you for all the info & tips!
Great video! Does Tim Holtz paper trimmer come in a 12" size? I work with a lot of 12x12 paper and that would be awesome!
+Elizabeth Gunn no
Theres a trimmer called tonic guillotine 12 inches and its the same company that made tim holtz trimmer .You can research here on youtube.
This is a very informative video....thanks for sharing
Would I be able to get "Swiffer" cloths over here in Scotland? That is one of the reasons I've "postponed" learning to use glitter or embossing powder. I have very limited crafting space, and HAVE to keep it as tidy and clean as possible. Thank you for your time in making all your videos, they are very informative for a crafting beginner like me. Happy New Year x
+Audrey Shaw I live in Scotland too 😊
Spontex Disposable Dusters are really good...Try Home Bargains or Wilko!
+Marion Grindlay Thank you Marion. We don't have Wilko but we have Home Bargains. I will have to have a look next time I'm in town. Thank you again.
Audrey Shaw You are very welcome 😊 Where in Scotland are you?
+Marion Grindlay Between Aberdeen and Inverness. How about you?
Audrey Shaw West Lothian (Central Belt) Have just spent a few days in Inverness!
What do you use under your fuse tool? I have just gotten the tool but am not clear on what I can use under it so that my surface isn't damaged!
+Elaine Sever i just put a pile of cardstock under mine and it works. there is a special mat they sell but i don't think that is necessary.
Thank you all so much!
thanks for all the insights
What is the app for the punch board? Thanks! Love your videos! Sarah

+Jennifermcguireink - Do you know if you can get the Fiskars Spring Assist scissors for lefties please?
The same ones work for lefties and righties. I just tried it to be certain.
+Number1Aunt thank you for checking, I really appreciate that xXx
Amazing share!!! Thank u
I like to learn something l want catalog book? Thank
I have a huge problem with my fiskars cutter same one as you but it doesn't cut straight and hasn't since the day I purchased it??
+Katheryn Thames exactly how i get a good cut LOL
I have the same issues too and am planning on spending a lot of time trying to work out if I need to change my crafting position to make sure it cuts straighter. I don't want to get rid of it or end up spending more money on other tools that I might not use :) Or else I'll exhale when I trim!!!
I love it !!! thanks
Can you make video about manual die cutting machine ?
Have a good day Jennifer
Pascaline live in FRANCE
+One Time One Life yes - i linked to my die cutting essentials video
I wish there was a way for me to add this video to my Amazon wishlist as a hint to the boyfriend.
+gnuyam hahaha send him the link!
Look for some of his videos here on youtube on using his Distress Inks and other products to learn different techniques you can use on paper crafts.
whaat?
Jennifer I have to say you have been my secret mentor! This Christmas marks 1 year that I've been designing cards and a lot of what I know I learned watching your videos and reading your blogs. So thank you for all you do for me and so many others!
