One rescue channel I used to watch said that they never shame the owners who surrender a neglected animal because they don't want others to be afraid to do the right thing if they can no longer care for their pet. I think about that often.
100%. We think of shame as a good way to socially punish bad behaviors but often its more an inhibitor to someone being able to correct their course or own up to their mistakes
My biggest problem is the one time that I had to surrender a cat to the SPCA they charged me. I get that they have fees they need to cover, but to me that's a huge barrier in surrendering an animal, and partially why people are surrendering them in boxes outside shelters.
@@FenrirAldebrand Rescues also get a lot of people bringing in a "stray" animal that they "found" because you don't have to pay a surrender fee that way. They could have dumped their pet on the side of the road somewhere so at least they are doing the right thing, even if they're doing it the wrong way.
@@FenrirAldebrand My condolences. You'd have to be a total dick to lie about something like that at such an emotional moment. I think most rescues would waive the surrender fee if you admit that you legitimately can't afford it.
I think George was happy-licking his paws. He was inspired to look after himself because someone was helping him with his very discouraging mats. When my cat got old and got poop on his butt but couldn't clean it off himself anymore, I'd get a warm, wet cloth and wipe it for him, and he'd go from looking utterly depressed and lackadaisical to purring and happy and licking his paws right away. Kitties like to be clean and are depressed when they're dirty and can't do anything about it.
@@zombei_kid Every cat is different. She even said in the video that she thought he was doing it because he was feeling good. So I think OP was correct in this circumstance.
Thank you for caring, Vanessa! As a caregiver for a neighbor, I had to take their little kitty in to be shaved. It is true that sometimes people do not understand a situation. My neighbor/client is a wheelchair user and does not have the manual dexterity to groom the cat, and the cat is older and less able to groom itself. Because the person could not afford to have the cat groomed, I paid for it myself, and the cat is now a lot more comfortable. Also, having been shaved down, the cat is better able to groom, and also to be brushed. The agency I work with said they would not reimburse me for the work, because it is not in my job description, but to me, caring for my neighbor means keeping everything in the house clean and in order, and that includes Kitty! It's a labor of love for me.
Thank You, I hope the world repays you for your kindness. The agency should be glad to have you, with so many caretakers being burned out, to have one so compassionate towards the client and going absolutely above and beyond. I'm sure the client and the kitty are extremely grateful.
"Mere Churu"??? When one of my cats needed something to tempt her appetite, the pet store clerk sold me some saying "We call this Kitty Crack. They love it." Both of my cats - including the one who never had a lack of appetite in her life - would take exception to that description. They think it is the food of the gods.
Working in a vet clinic, every time I see cats who aren’t grooming themselves it can be related to a few factors. Age, illness, discomfort, hiding in tight quarters, etc. I’m glad that they received the care they needed☺️ hopefully with a fresh start it can be avoided for the future
My old cat(she passed away 2 years ago) stopped grooming herself when she was around 10 years old and it turned out she had infected gum because of her teeth. In the end the vet removed all of them (most of them were black!) and her gum went back to normal and she started grooming herself again.
could depression or anxiety cause them not to groom themselves? to my knowledge, cats can definitely be depressed, right? i imagine if they were depressed, they didn't care nor wanted to groom themselves. and them being super matted, itchy, having dry skin made them more depressed since it probably didn't feel good.
@@guccimane8310not a vet, but I would think it’s possible. When my youngest cat was mourning our old girl passing, she stopped grooming herself. She just laid on the spot her sister died, refusing to eat or drink. When I picked her up she went limp and when moved, she would go back to the spot and lay there. She finally drank water on day 3, though it had to be brought directly to her. Eventually, she recovered and now she’s back to being a chaos gremlin.
But he's not the Prince of Darkness, he just happened to be black. He's very sweet and lovely and Lucifer is really not the name for me, but if it is the Latin Lucifer "the morning star, bearer of light" than it makes sense. But if they meant for Satan, that's really not for him.
One of my cats vents everything possible from his rear end when he's in the crate going to the vets. The rest of the time he's so chilled and just wants to be everyones friend.
My freshman year of high school I met a stray cat who was covered in matted fur. I had just lost my two cats due to some poor decisions of the adults in my life. I regularly spent time on my porch with him, and every day I would make a little bit of progress cutting the matted fur off of his body. Even though he was a little uncomfortable with the process, and I only had a pair of kitchen scissors, he kept coming back. I'm so happy that I eventually got to see him look like a normal cat. In such a time of hardship for me, helping him was one of few things that brought me joy. Watching this video reminded me of him. I hope that wherever he is, someone is taking care of him.
I hope the same for you, that someone kind is taking care of you. Very very hard when you're growing up w caretakers that aren't able or willing to give you & your pets good care. Please take care of you & hope you have a pet in your life!
I love how calm Lucifer was for his bath. I had a cat that used to like to roll in the most awful stinky stuff and needed bathed regularly but it was like washing a blender while it was plugged in and running trying to clean him.
@@irishuisman1450 That's why I said, "still" to imply that after the cats' baths, the crates needed to be cleaned, as well. Putting them back in their own filth seemed unsanitary.
@@irishuisman1450or that those were all that were available to the owner, or the person bringing them in. Again: compassion for everyone involved here.
@@KristenK78 that's also very possible. I studied animal care and although there were only 2 cats on campus, we did use crates for the roughly 20 rabbits when we had to move them. Those crates weren't exactly cleaned every day since there just wasn't enough time for that, so they were always at least a little dirty. The only time we cleaned them outside of the rare time that we had to clean them in class was if one of the rabbits was either sick with something contagious or peed in them.
I’m an in-home companion/caregiver and I have a client that has a rabbit and my first day there I could tell she loved the rabbit but she couldn’t care for him and clip his nails so when I offered to do it she was really happy and started crying cause she felt so bad that his nails had gotten so bad but we got them trimmed and I brush him once a week and he gets fed right when I go over and he’s so much happier that his nails are trimmed
That’s actually quite common as a support worker you often find pets in not very good condition. We get told not to report them unless they are being obviously cruel but try and help them care for their animal. It’s a little hard for me because I’m a kitty lover but I’m afraid of dogs
@@anna_in_aotearoa3166 so true because in the another video with Charles and Boots a person was comment about it no excuse to clip their cat's claw. But for me see you shave a cat or clip their claw stress me out but you're doing a good job.
I was a hospice nurse for 8 years so I can understand how the animals can be neglected unknowingly. Many of my patients were challenged just to take care of themselves. It's sad that this happens but it does. For those patients, I would try to give the animal attention if they woul allow and I would feed them before I left.
That was a very sweet thing for you to do! It warms my heart to know that there are people like you and Vanessa in the world, helping humans and animals alike. Bless your hearts, both of you!
As someone who had their friends in bad conditions, definitely can see why some people leave their animals like this. I've had to care for a horse who've been neglected because of his owners disability. He left everything for his daughter, yet she didn't attend all he asked for, which was actually not much, and we ended up with a severely underweight guy on out hands. I don't even know how those two survived. The horse - horrible condition. Infection, shap teeth which scratched his cheek on the inside, patchy mane, bald spots from matting on his feet. The guy - bad fall down the stairs, which was caused by a broken step. He flew from the second floor, hitting the ground with his neck. Let me tell you, he was FURIOUS upon seeing his friend like this. I don't blame the guy for putting her out of his will. If she can't even feed and water a horse, what is she's going to do with her poor dad if he's going to get worse? He still recovered tho. I don't even want to imagine the poor stallion's feelings during all of this 😅
Thank you for taking so much care and effort not just to for your patients but for their pets, fur babies, fuzzy friends and the like. You are appreciated 💛
I was a hospice nurse, also. We had vets who would DONATE animal services; our social worker was tireless in getting services like this for the good of the family unit.
My cousin is dying from cancer and she was so afraid to have her little dog groomed because she thought they would take her away from her because her back end was matted. My other cousin took the dog to the groomer and they saw her at a moments notice because we had to come from out of state. The groomer was wonderful and got her little dog taken care of. Thank you for all you do!
9 days late, but I couldn’t leave this comment without saying something. I pray your cousin has immensely happy days in the next days and months. I may not know her, but I care for her and won’t forget about her. And, I’m happy her dogs were taken care of. She seems like a wonderful person.
My cat, a short hair, developed a little matting on his back - I was able to cut it out. Since then, I brush him daily, the area where he matted, when I brush it, he licks his front paws, when I lift the brush, he stops. Since we've been doing this daily, no matting has appeared but still licks his paw.
Maybe something changed in these kitties environments and it is stressful so they are hiding more and not grooming. You are such a kind and compassionate girl and I know every single animal that you do feels that. Cute kitties!!
I thought so too. Iirc when cats get distressed they stop grooming. If the owner is sick and everything is hectic it most likely affect the cats too. Poor family, I wish things will get better for them all.
@badwolf7850Sometimes dogs just have bad teeth that will need to be pulled regardless of how well they're cared for, so don't beat yourself up over it!
I was afraid to take my dogs in for dental appointments because I had PTSD and was barely able to even care for myself, and the vet had no space for what might have led to that situation. I'm doing better and my dogs are doing better, I'm stubborn enough to keep going for my dog's sake even if the vet acts like I'm a bad person. But it IS discouraging for a lot of people, and just being gentle with owners encourages them to come back.
Thank you! Someone recently posted a story about a dog who had been put up for adoption after the family had a baby. People were all over this family, how they couldn’t be trusted with a kid if they would rehome their dog. I knew a couple who had to rehome their dog after baby came. Baby and mom both had severe complications during labour and delivery. Mom took months to get better, baby will never fully recover. Overwhelmed dad was trying to do for his wife and new baby and after awhile it became apparent that this family simply didn’t have the time or energy for the dog anymore. He wasn’t receiving the love, time, energy and attention he deserved and they knew it just wasn’t going to go back to the way things had been. So they made the hard decision and sought a new home for their beloved pet. Because it’s what was right for all of them. Sometimes life happens. It doesn’t mean these pets aren’t loved.
It's wild because people will get on the family for rehoming the dog they can no longer take care of but they'll also get on them for not rehoming the dog they can no longer take care of. In my opinion you just need to do the best thing for everyone involved and there's no one solution that works for everyone. It might be rehoming, someone looking after the pet temporarily, someone coming into the household regularly to do exercising/grooming/etc, putting the pet in a kennel for 1-2 days a week when you're most busy until you get through the crisis (ideally a really good kennel so it's like a little vacation they enjoy)... Some of these also require more money than others and as much as we don't like it that's going to be a big factor as well.
There's certainly cases like that. there's a hell of a lot more cases of "We KNEW we were going to have a child and got an animal that we also knew we'd toss aside as soon as we had a baby", and other such terrible shit. The majority of cases are people just tossing animals aside because they're tired of them. No, it might not reflect on how they care for a human baby, but it doesn't mean they're not bad people.
Some ppl get furious if a family won’t treat their pet like an actual child when the reality is that the pet doesn’t take precedence to a human baby. Idk why but we have taken up a mentality of treating animals as actual equivalent of children and have devalued children in society and wonder why they’re coming out so poorly behaved. We need to get a single thing straight and that is that at the end of the day, if a family continues to have a pet around and treat them poorly or neglect them, they should either rehome their pet temporarily until they can care for them better or permanently rehome. Wow. 😣
Thank you for sharing this story. This was probably a heartbreaking situation for everyone, and the parents took the right decision. It takes a lot of courage and, truly, love, to do that.
Their owner is probably in a bad way. They aren't caring for themselves because they are concerned for their owner. I know when I wiuld get sick, my old cat would take it upon himself to not wash himself until I was feeling better, which was kinda sweet but also disgusting. He was a short hair fortunately so his fur would just get a bit awkward.
It's also important to be kind in these situations, cause if they expect to be shamed for not taking care of their animal, while they already feel ashamed of it, they might just never take the animal to get shaved. I'm still trying to convince my aunt to get her dog shaved and she's considering pretending to have found her on the streets...
So true! It's the same with humans and the dentist/doctor. Being shamed does not help, it just makes them avoidant. Let's just be happy they made the step to come in!
do you think some empathetic videos like this one could help? The Kitten Lady has talked about animal hoards before and, like in this video, invited her watchers to understand that people are basically doing the best they can and lots of people could just use some assistance to get things in order again. Like, it's not like the carers are failures or "bad" people - sometimes life snowballs :(
You have her ticket to a veterinarian's office that does grooming. Sadly we lost our office that was fabulous the old guys retired during COVID and the new ones destroyed the business so that it literally went under about a year ago. It did such wonderful grooming never judgmental etc. We do have Petco now in our little town and they hired the groomers but well you're in public bringing your animal that's in bad shape I've had a lot of people tell me since I got sick from COVID I haven't been well enough to really do what I used to do and my animals suffering from it. It doesn't matter find someone who's kind also you can also see if there is a mobile groomer in your area They are really cool The animal doesn't feel so frightened because they don't have to leave home We have two of them in our area it's fabulous. I have them come to my place and do it That way my cats don't have to freak out and go in the car which they positively hate.
as an avid TH-cam commenter and cat video watcher, I see a LOT of comments who are all just “for shame” “how could someone” “there’s a special place in hell for” and it drives me nuts! Of course people feel so ashamed when so many comments say that! So one piece of advice for if you don’t want to feel so much shame to the point you’re a hermit, don’t read comments on videos about animals being rescued. Never!!!
You could almost see their thoughts go from: "I'm scared! Stay away from me!" to: "Wow, I'm feeling so much better. Maybe this isn't so bad after all." as the groom progresses. Amazing transformations and they should both be much more active and healthy over the next few months.
Lucifer was very good! How did he get that name? Poor kitty needs a new name! Maybe Lucian! They both were great! Amazing! So sorry you feel bad this day. Hope the Advil helped a lot. Thanks for this video!😅
@@virginiakoerner9317I’m wondering if he was named after the step mother’s cat in Cinderella, he looks kinda like him. But yes, certainly this Lucifer is better behaved haha.
True, i rescued a kitten the other day with the worst infestation of fleas ive ever seen, due to its age (unknown, its young) and condition (emaciated) i didn't want to use medication yet but had to do something, so i gave him a bath, i think he must have known i was helping him as there was essentially zero resistance. Didn't really want to do this on day zero of my relationship with him but i couldn't leave him in that condition, think i was more upset after it all as it was distressing the amount of fleas he had. He hid for a day or two but now hes my best buddy, comes out when i enter his quarantine room with his little tail up and purring his head of.Big change from a mildly spicy purrito he was on day one as a rescue from feral mother with zero socialization.
Thanks for pointing this out. I totally agree, the filming is great for all you are doing at the time. And thanks for grooming these poor little kitties. I hope you are feeling better, Vanessa!
When my husband had cancer my long hair calico went several weeks without being brushed. I felt so guilty when I saw those clumps! Best wishes to the owners, cats, and of course to you dog lady ❤❤
I worked at a county animal shelter that was also animal control, and most of the animals that come in matted/not great condition are due to the owner suffering a sudden life changing emergency. Cases where the owner died was always heartbreaking for me, because their animals were incredibly confused and scared.
The cat I have currently came from the pound. She has fur like cotton candy so she was named “Guinevere.” I wanted a mature cat, this cat picked me out and the staff told me she was “an adult.” I brought her home and within 24 hrs. renamed her “LucyFur.” She was an oversized kitten with matting on her back. She gets groomed with a professional brush every. single. day. She not only loves it, she demands it. Funky fur, daily grooming and all, I love her.
Listening to you speak of kindness towards other make me smile. People simply do not know what they do not know. My 85 pound 4‘ 10 mother had a handicap parking placard. She walk normally she did all kinds of things normally. But she was eating up with cancer and people would yell at her when she parked in those spaces. Thank you for giving a lesson on treating people the way they deserve and not judging everyone at first glance.
I am similar to your mother in people think something of me that is wrong. I use a wheelchair 95% of the time. Because of the chair people seem to think I shouldn't be able to even stand. I surprise them every time I sta n d up to reach something
It seems like with the biggest majority of the "difficult" animals, they realize that you are helping them. These two behaved remarkably! Great job once again.
When I had to leave my long haired cat with my parents for six months, he got so depressed he stopped grooming himself and wouldn't let my mother brush his stomach. His stomach was covered in mats and had to be shaved, and for some reason it grew back curly. Never left him behind again.
the scritching you gave Luci after removing the big mat was so thoughtful. lol that must have felt soooo good. it seems to me he was feeling some relief as soon as you started taking out the mat. honestly, i think they both displayed some relief behavior as they were freed from their fur.
They both did great considering how matted they were. You could see their relief when those big patches of matted hair came out. Thank you for giving them a much needed groom.
I just wanted to thank you for everything you do and for explaining that not every owner is purposefully neglectful of their pets. My mother had cats and dogs, but after her mental decline due to age, her dementia caused her to neglect her health and that of her usually beloved pets, which had to be taken from her. This case reminds me of how awful the mats and skin were on her kitties and dogs. She always loved her cats and dogs, and I know she would've been upset with their condition, even more than her own if she was of sound mind.
@jodalee8620 it was the same with my Mother. She had vascular dementia because she was in heart failure. She was passionate about animals and their welfare. Unfortunately she couldn’t recognise the state her dogs had got into. They were well fed because they would demand to be fed. She couldn’t take care of their other needs. It was so sad when we had to have her sign them over. 💔😢
Our cat growing up was a long hair stray that didn't groom himself well for years after he decided to live at our house. The vet believed that was possibly do to his experience as a stray. Food and shelter needs came first, grooming went by the wayside. Took sometime for him to realize he wasn't going to starve or have to sleep outside in western NY winters anymore. He eventually got back into grooming habits. Thanks for helping these two out!
My step-uncle had a black cat named Lucifer. He was a sweet boy, I don't remember ever hearing him meow and his pupils were always big. I think he passed away from old age.
My partner had a cat named Lucifer when we first started dating. He had a smoker's cough for a meow and was kind of a goblin, he liked doing kickflips off the walls at 3 AM, but he was a very sweet boy.
Growing up I had a long haired black domestic that looked just like Lucifer. His name was shadow and we had the same issues with the matting when he became a senior cat. He just couldn’t groom himself anymore. He was nowhere as well behaved as Lucifer though. We got him shaved once and after that they showed us how to do it ourselves because the poor groomer did not want him as a client. Thank you for helping these babies.
You’re so good at what you do! I had a lifetime of cats but none right now. Your patience and confidence are impressive, and as a new fan, let’s just say I’m bingeing. Also a donation ❤on the way.
Also that's crazy how the matting literally becomes a solid mat. I had a Pomeranian growing up and it got matting once, but it was just a tiny ball that I could snip off easily, so I don't have much experience with it.
that said.. the black cat is a beautiful cat with a nice even temper and the way he blinks slowly towards you shows you that he is enjoying this and are telling you to be calm and that he is calm
We had a Domestic Longhair (1/4 Persian but it hadn’t really come through on her facially), and she also got really matted if we let her; we checked with the vet to see if she had any issues grooming, and he eventually came to the conclusion that she was just lazy. 😂 RIP Cheri, truly you were a vibe.
I seem to have a cat with the double layered fur that my samoyed dog had. Marcelene cleans her under layer just fine but since it takes forever to dry and causes Alfalfa spikes, she gets brushed to have her fur lie flat again. She's so funny about it and has a specific trill to ask.
Thank you for being considerate of some owners, Vanessa. When I had a serious bout of illness, I couldn't take my dog and cat to the groomers, the park, or make my dog's food like he was used to. When I finally got better, the vet and groomer embarrassed me about being a terrible pet owner so much that I gave them to other families. EDIT: Thank you guys for the support and I'm going to give some context to show why Vanessa's compassion meant a lot to me. Marco, my dog, I had since he was a puppy. Because he had stomach issues when I got him, I cooked a special diet for him until it cleared up. He always liked it, so I just continued to cook for him. When I got sick, I didn't have the energy to cook, so I bought dog food and treats. He started gaining weight because I was giving him the same amount of food as with the cooked food/treats. The vet screamed at me for Marco gaining weight. As for Chloe, my cat, the groomer was just pissed because she was used to Chloe coming every two weeks by the previous owner and that was a spot I wasn't filling. She was also annoyed that I didn't take Marco to her. (He's a greyhound. And she complained he was terrified of the dryer.) Chloe wasn't matted, her nails were longer than usual because I didn't do them as often as she did. Coming off of a potentially life threatening illness and not being in the best frame of mind, the berating made me feel like I was the world's worst pet owner. But when I think back, the vet was just a jerk and the groomer was greedy.
that's horrible. I would think that especially vet office staff would get some sort of training on not judging/shaming people especially when they are there for receive care for their furbaby!!
For her question about why they aren't grooming each other, I have 3 cats and they don't groom each other. I think they have to be pretty close to allow the other to groom them.
We have two cats rn and they're around a year apart in age- (one was born in oct 2012, the other late may 2013) and only the older one ever grooms the younger one tbh- and that's mostly just her ears.
A happy hoodie for a cat when they get their nails trimmed. Genius! I have been kitty-less for over a year and just not ready to have another companion at the moment. But I usually have a kitty companion and I have had a couple that I have had to take to the vet tech for nail trimming to keep both of us from emotional and/or physical injury in the process. I'm going to give this tip to every cat owner I know.
For how matted these cuties were, they were pretty well behaved! There's definitely been kitties on here with healthier coats who have been ready for battle! Glad they're going to feel better. Also my girls, when they were close to 19 and 20 respectively, got a couple of small mats along their spines intermittently due to the cover on the litter pan. Removed the lid and problem solved! Thank goodness!
They were both so sweet! They did such a good job for how matted they were. The owners or whoever brought them in should have more faith in them, they are wonderful cats
You can really tell how much lucifur and even George came to trust you by the end of groom by the size of their pupils. They obviously didn’t enjoy it but they trusted you and knew you wouldn’t harm them. They were so sweet!
I love how she explains her concerns with a matted cat and various issues they face being indoor/outdoor. All her videos are like this and that's why I like her videos.
I have two cats. The Older tolerates the younger, barely! She will let the young one lick her head a little bit. But more than that and she'll be swiped with the paw! Maybe they have a similar relationship!? Also, its dumb to judge people when they seek help for a problem! They're doing the right thing by seeking help! Being mean might discourage someone from doing that!!!!
that’s how my dogs are! I have a 15yo mystery mutt, Oreo, who tolerates my younger (4yo) pit-lab mix, Coco. Coco absolutely LOVES Oreo and tries to give her kisses all the time lmao, lucky for her Oreo has grown much more tolerant over time
A lot of the time back matting can come from the cat hiding under a bed or a couch and the furniture rubs on ther back so much that it mats. I had a cat growing up that used to do that and it was near impossible to get any brushing done to prevent it, especially in the shedding season when the loose fur gets rolled up in the new.
if the owner is indisposed due to illness i wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why the matting on their backs is so bad, esp if they are scaredy-cats and can tell something’s wrong at home they’re probably pretty stressed :( poor things
@@nckojitaOur environment is very friendly and the cats are much happier now, they play fight with eachother and the matts slowly got bad over time and they were taken in to get groomed by my sibling. Theyre very friendly:)
You could just tell they were grateful for you helping them 🥺 no screaming no swiping. They were just probably happy to be clean again. Thank you for helping them
I have a long hair cat that I just couldn't keep up with the mats this year. She HATES being brushed. She will also bite a she is a feral cat that we take care of. She is 12-13 years old, she's plump, and usually very friendly. But her fur is bad this year. We have a good groomer for our dog and I hope she can do equally well for this cat.
My Maine Coons get shaved twice a year because they love it. They're always well groomed, but lion cuts make them feel like kittens. So don't judge every shaved animal. Mine actually come running when they hear the clippers turn on.
What is wrong with you? Like seriously. What if the owner is fighting cancer? Or is in an abusive situation? You clearly did not watch this video. You are a terrible person.
@@kitkatboard My opinion is more neutral. While life gets really tough at times and people should indeed be considerate and understanding while taking that into account, whoever chose to take care of a pet also took on the responsibility of ensuring their wellbeing. I know every case is unique, but also to forgive everyone who neglected a poor animal because life got difficult is a little bit... Idk. My point is neither of you should generalize in my opinion.
Long haired cats don't shed properly sometimes, especially if they are elderly. Sometimes they can't handle the hot weather. Good, reasons for shaving. The same thing goes for dogs with thick/long coats. We have had both in this family. The animals usually appreciate the relief they feel.
They could be malnourished, or sick. They should see a vet for their matted fur. My cat got matted and it was bc of gastrointestional issues, and when she got on a different diet, her fur became healthy and she started grooming again (I had to remove the mats of course)
Vanessa, I know the kitties could feel your calm demeanor and they can tell you know what you're doing. You are so kind to take such care with these babies. Thank you. Also, I love that when the Happy Hoody goes on, their pitiful faces say, "So. This is how it ends."
Thank you for being not only compassionate towards the cats but to their humans as well. Speaking for myself when dealing with illness and hospitalizations it was hard to handle taking my dog to the groomer. I did my best and brushed him at home but his nails got so long we had to re train the quicks.
I think Vanessa REALLY knows her job-inside and out and has an expertise that is rarely seen. She proves this with the numbers of successful grooms she DOES complete on difficult animals. I, personally, could NOT do what she does and greatly admire her skill and patience. She is an amazing person who sets a great example of kindness to animals and care for animals. I am glad we get to watch her at her work. She is a gift.
I rarely write comments. or subscribe. I am an animal Advokat all my life and that is very long. Im a professional, certified dog trainer from Germany. And I am telling you now the way you treat the cats and dogs is beyond everything I saw before. You are amazing I don't find the words in english how much I am impressed by you. You speak comforting and the cats or dogs right away bond with you. Every time the owners told you, the cats don't like that, the dogs don't like that and from what I saw every time you had no problem. I don't understand why people still tell you, why don't you do it this way or that way. Don't they see what you do is working ? From me you get the "best Groomer and Therapist" award. You are amazing Girl. I learned from you a lot. Thank you for reading my far to long comment. I will recommend you to my animal friends.

The relief these fur babies have when all that matted fur comes off is priceless. The bath of warm water is making a huge difference, too. Such gorgeous, sweet cats. Beautiful job, Vanessa ❤
George looks like a cat my family and I rescued, his name was midnight and the shelter was so close to putting him down we got him the same day we applied. he got 6 beautiful years where he learned to trust again and was loved until his very last moment
I love stories like this. Adopting older animals takes a special type of human with an extra big heart. Thank god you were there and found your baby and gave him a new life full of happiness and love.
He knows the owners more so he'd feel more comfortable to lash out, even if they handle him correctly. If the cat doesn't want something done, it'll either run, resort to violence to get away, or turn on you. He just ran with her and probably thrashes with them, making his scruff difficult to hold to begin with.

@@lauriepenner350 Fair. I never really thought about that at the time, was a little too devastated.

You're a kind person. Thank you for taking care of that kitty.❤️
Thank you for being so kind to your fellow mortal creatures… you rock!❤
Thank you for doing that. Your agency might not appreciate you as you should but I'm sure the little kittie and their owner did! ❤

i have a long haired black cat aswell and looks very similar to this cat. so i was sad hearing his little meows in the bath. such a cutie
Working in a vet clinic, every time I see cats who aren’t grooming themselves it can be related to a few factors. Age, illness, discomfort, hiding in tight quarters, etc. I’m glad that they received the care they needed☺️ hopefully with a fresh start it can be avoided for the future
Yeah, I was wondering if their home life is just so stressful that they are too overwhelmed to keep up with grooming. Perhaps a hoarding situation?
Some cats who were orphans and/or didn't have a living example near them just don't know how to groom. Nobody taught them(

But he's not the Prince of Darkness, he just happened to be black. He's very sweet and lovely and Lucifer is really not the name for me, but if it is the Latin Lucifer "the morning star, bearer of light" than it makes sense. But if they meant for Satan, that's really not for him.
Oh dear, Lucifer's poor pathetic meows in the bath.
I came here for this comment! I don't think I've ever heard anything so sad!

Good thing that it went well. Especially after that line about how dangerous it is to groom matted fur with scissors.
Sorry for the loss of your cats. Thank you and God bless you for your kindness towards the stray 💖💖💖

That is an amazing comparison to use lol

Both kitties blinked once back in their crates. They're grateful.
Their crates were still so dirty, though.
@@roundtwo3321 tbf, the cats were dirty too. It's possible that the cats got the crates dirty simply by being in them
@@irishuisman1450 That's why I said, "still" to imply that after the cats' baths, the crates needed to be cleaned, as well.
Thank you for looking after not just your human client but also their animal companion! I'm sure both of them really appreciate your empathy ❤️
That’s actually quite common as a support worker you often find pets in not very good condition. We get told not to report them unless they are being obviously cruel but try and help them care for their animal. It’s a little hard for me because I’m a kitty lover but I’m afraid of dogs

Since we've been doing this daily, no matting has appeared but still licks his paw.
Maybe something changed in these kitties environments and it is stressful so they are hiding more and not grooming. You are such a kind and compassionate girl and I know every single animal that you do feels that. Cute kitties!!

The opinion of ignorant people should never be valued
Gosh both kitties look so SAD. Thank you cat friend who got them to Vanessa. I hope their home situation improves.

@@blacktemplar1139 The real question is: would you be happy if your hair was utterly, painfully matted and you can't do anything about it?

@@blacktemplar1139 remember your first proper haircut after lockdown? Yeah, I'd be happy.

He just couldn’t groom himself anymore. He was nowhere as well behaved as Lucifer though. We got him shaved once and after that they showed us how to do it ourselves because the poor groomer did not want him as a client. Thank you for helping these babies.
Chi è il mandante per commentare? 👑💛🌹
You’re so good at what you do! I had a lifetime of cats but none right now. Your
patience and confidence are impressive, and as a new fan, let’s just say I’m
bingeing. Also a donation ❤on the way.
I will call him George and love him and squeeze him ❤
😂💖💖
this. ❤
You’re aging yourself here.😂😂😂😂
😂😂 love this
I thought I was the only one with that thought.
George and (appropriately) Lucifer are both little angels. I'm glad you could help them.
Mr devil incatnate being the sweetest boi is just so funny
Lucifer seems like such a sweet cat.
Also that's crazy how the matting literally becomes a solid mat. I had a Pomeranian growing up and it got matting once, but it was just a tiny ball that I could snip off easily, so I don't have much experience with it.
“The Happy Hoodie just made him give up on life”
I just about died laughing!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
AND THIS IS LUCIFER WE ARE TALKING ABOUT 😂😂😂😂
that said.. the black cat is a beautiful cat with a nice even temper and the way he blinks slowly towards you shows you that he is enjoying this and are telling you to be calm and that he is calm
I’m so sorry you went through that😔
That's terrible what your vet and groomer did! I'm saddened to hear you gave your babies away since they made you feel so terrible.
that's horrible.
I would think that especially vet office staff would get some sort of training on not judging/shaming people especially when they are there for receive care for their furbaby!!
That’s very sad. Sometimes our pets are all we have to keep us going. I’m sick a lot too but my vet has always been very kind.
@@lindalumae you have a wonderful vet 😊🥰
Soft blinks from both. Good job❤
Aww Georgie gave you two blinks, he must’ve known you did him a service. It’s as if he was saying thank you. ❤❤
For her question about why they aren't grooming each other, I have 3 cats and they don't groom each other. I think they have to be pretty close to allow the other to groom them.
I’ve had cats all my life and they never groomed each other.
We have two cats rn and they're around a year apart in age- (one was born in oct 2012, the other late may 2013) and only the older one ever grooms the younger one tbh- and that's mostly just her ears.
Our 2 cats don't groom each other at all.
mine do sometimes
@@obnoxiousthegod that's so cute ❤️
"Wanna stay here with me?"
I can understand why you'd like to keep him 😭
They were both so sweet!
The way George daintily placed his paws on the front of the tub was so cute! 18:03
Coco absolutely LOVES Oreo and tries to give her kisses all the time lmao, lucky for her Oreo has grown much more tolerant over time
@@Snowstorm174 Yes! Sounds like my little duo! They're so precious!!!
Best commercial ever for happy hoodies for cats!!!
😂 Yes!!!
I wonder if it would let me brush my guy He isn’t into it.
He's so sweet . I love his pitiful little meow .. please stop and take me home with your dogs I don't mind
I think that Lucifer & George did wonderful for their groom. I think it has a lot to do with how calm and soothing you are Vanessa.
@@leilan787Some cats are just more nervous than others and like to hide in tight spots.
I’m glad someone thought of the idea for a happy hoodie. They look so cute. You are so gentle with these meowsies. Thank you for sharing.❤❤❤❤❤
I love how angry and grumpy they both look yet are both some of the sweetest cats ever on the channel
I truly hate seeing a shaved cat or dog, but, I hate seeing an animal in pain or distress much more. Thank you for helping these animals.
My Maine Coons get shaved twice a year because they love it. They're always well groomed, but lion cuts make them feel like kittens. So don't judge every shaved animal. Mine actually come running when they hear the clippers turn on.
@belovedheir77 Someone didn't listen to what Vanessa had to ay
Thanks for all you do, helping so many animals.
They could be malnourished, or sick. They should see a vet for their matted fur. My cat got matted and it was bc of gastrointestional issues, and when she got on a different diet, her fur became healthy and she started grooming again (I had to remove the mats of course)
I think both cats knew you were trying to help them. At one point with each there were brief moments of gratitude.
Vanessa, I know the kitties could feel your calm demeanor and they can tell you know what you're doing. You are so kind to take such care with these babies. Thank you. Also, I love that when the Happy Hoody goes on, their pitiful faces say, "So. This is how it ends."
Vanessa is just so gentle and kind to these sweet cats!!
Love when happy hoodies make animals give up on life!🤣
My little dog looks like a drunk nonna. He sits there for a second and slowly falls over.
You're so right! She has such a great energy about her for dealing with animals: kind and compassionate, but firm and not fearful. I think it inspires trust in the animals she grooms.
Whenever I see a black fluffy cat named Lucifer I always assume the owner is a Cinderella fan.
Same!
Huh?
In the Disney animation of Cinderella the cat is named Lucifer.
@@cassieoz1702 Disney's Cinderella had a black cat in it named Lucifer. He is owned by Cinderella's step mother and he chases the mice that Cinderella has befriended.
@@Dreamer12888 ahh! Disney. Not actually the Cinderella story
The little meows Luci is making is melting my heart T. T
"Mat free and clean" Those kitties were feeling soooo much better after their spa day!
I loved how gentle the second cat placed his front paws on the bath.
You are such a lovely person. Not judging and just helping.
This cat is incredibly calm!
George was SUCH a good boy!!! Didn’t become aggressive whatsoever. I think other people did not know how to handle him 😢💔 they are both so beautiful!!
He knows the owners more so he'd feel more comfortable to lash out, even if they handle him correctly. If the cat doesn't want something done, it'll either run, resort to violence to get away, or turn on you. He just ran with her and probably thrashes with them, making his scruff difficult to hold to begin with.
