Durbin’s MiLB strikeout percentage for 2024 was 3rd lowest among all AA-AAA qualifiers. Why are you guys so low on him?

Hey guys! Your Hall of Fame commentary this week was exceptional! I have a few questions about the Hall. Firstly, how does a player become eligible for the Hall of Fane? Who can recommend them and based on what criteria? Secondly do you think Pete Rose will be able to get into Cooperstown now that he has passed away? (And if so, will Shoeless Joe also be admitted?). Finally can/will they ever reconsider the case for Mathingly and Munson for the HOF? Thanks and have a Blessed week!

They ain’t low on him …..they are being realistic ……the big league is a very diff environment from any other league on the planet, then add on the Bronx effect and it gets heavier to shoulder!
You also have to remember what arms was he facing in the minors? Did they have the same stuff he will face in the “show”?
The AFL that ppl are all raving about ….I watched some of that and I did watch the Fall Stars game …..he was good for sure but again I’ll say who was he facing and was there really any pressure on him as such?
To me you cant pin all your hopes on Durbin ….. I’d say Jazz is a better idea at second and go get someone for 3rd or even Jazz goes to CF and you go get ppl for 2nd and 3rd ….they are out there to be had (trade wise) if the powers that be have the canines to trade chips as such.

@@graemehighlander9237 I never mentioned the AFL, I mentioned the AA-AAA. I’ve followed Durbin since before last season, not recently.

Still stands what I said ….I will also add that with a player that has value, you do need to be mindful of ….you bring him up and he tanks, you just lost a chip!

Just a thought but to get Juan Soto on the team, what do you think about making him a co-captain with judge? by any means necessary to get them on the team? I’m sure Judge would be OK with that.

I think Soto’s motivation is purely financial. Ergo I don’t think some ceremonial position would make a difference one way or another. In addition, this isn’t the Ny Giants where there’s a captain everywhere you turn . The Yankees did not have a captain for almost 40 years between the Iron Horse and Munson. The Yankees do not take the captainship lightly and they only reserve that position for a homegrown player.

Stacie’s hypothetical Cole would have won 30 games except Clay Holmes blew 5 of the saves

I agree with Durbin ….that said I do have a feeling that they might let him compete for 2b at spring training ……I’d rather tho they did get proven big league players ….not necessarily out of the FA market but more so via trades …..players like Brendan Donovan, Alex Bohmn , and who I’d really like to be wearing our Pinstripes, Crochet …..which leads to what you were saying about Spencer Jones ….if you can use a chip (obviously more is needed) to get Crochet, to me you go for it.
Very valid point Brian about Judge, we cannot rely purely on having big cannons to dig us out the crap, if they don’t fire or only do so as you said at a lower level, the “we have a problem” phrase comes to mind.
With or without Soto we have holes that need filling, they have to address that …….they also imho do need plan b-z if during the season the big guns are not firing and even more so in the post season!
As for Cole and how healthy in the post season ……I remember listening to Maddux and when he was asked something similar about the post season, he said well we prepared for that in Spring Training, we knew we were going there so we prepared! To me that is something that should be taken note of and implemented as we will be in the Post season and we want our guys on the mound prepared and ready for that!

I think we got the “what if” about Judge last season. With him only playing in 110 games, Judge did slide back to being a “good” power hitter, at least in the aggregate. And look how the team ended up. They stunk! That illustrates the necessity to build around Judge by getting consistent hitters up and down the order.

Judge and Soto had career years and we barely made a dent in the world series. DeSoto goes you have to replace him with three players who can make an impact in the lineup

Didn’t Cole use sticky stuff in 2019?

He still does. He uses the allowed sticky stuff.

If Judge is just ok, the yanks miss the playoffs and Soto moves on. Boone is fired. .310, 110 RBI is better than just ok. Normal power hitter year is .280, 35 HR, 100 RBI

The dude does have his slumps. And I suspect that he inflates his stats on clubs that really don't have very good pitching. The current state of MLB pitching is that by the end of the season, it is often not very good. Too many blown out arms. Too many AA and AAA pitchers filling slots.

Call me old fashioned lifetime lifelong Yankee fan. Although I was born in 1959, wanting Hal Steinbrenner, Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone to fly to California to meet with Juan Soto is definitely weird. It's like Marilyn Monroe meeting Arthur Miller to find out if he is the more wealthier provider. Yes send the Yankee brass out there to be like Joe DiMaggio on his knees so Marilyn Monroe won't leave him. Instead of Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller we should put a curse on Steve Cohen that he immediately become Howard Hughes eccentric where he pees into glass jars and becomes hobo like. Remember Howard Hughes went from dating beautiful actresses to dressing like a homeless bum and sleeping in alleys across from hotels he used to own.
