    You can't do something like that in a simple garage and in the garden! I'm freaking out! A guy like you must get a series on TV. When I consider what DIY nerds with comparatively ridiculous projects have significantly more reach, your channel should hopefully explode with likes soon. Wish you much success.

  • @bimotahb1

    When mig welding sheetmetal make sure you gaps are exact and the width of the thickness of the metal. Don't use magnets to hold part use panel clamps. Take a spare piece of metal and without looking at controls pull trigger and wait for constant bacon hiss. Than raise heat or lower feed so you are right at the verge of burn through. A 1/2 weld is better than a spot as your warping anyway. Blast the spot with air after each weld to cool. Problem is when you do as you show all your doing is putting weld 75% at best above metal. Then you grind it all away leaving a very weak weld where you can get cracks or ghosting. Plus you will grind a lot less. Looks great!!!!

    • @OddJobFix
      @OddJobFix ปีที่แล้ว

      We all have our various favored ways of doing panel welding. I'm not sure your 75% assessment is accurate. I've done it all ways and TIG is very good but so is silicone bronze done with oxy/fuel brazing. It works with TIG as well but it's tricky enough with a flame.
      The main thing with all metalwork - less is more. So as far as grinding goes, I agree. I don't cool with air though. A nice cold dolly on the backside and a few taps go a long way to not over-stress the joint.

    • @bimotahb1
      @bimotahb1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OddJobFix Your a welder and u think he has more than 75% on that gas cap? Silicone bronze on a finished panel? Thats TIG or gas brazing do to melting point.. You can't work a MIG joint that is the issue. MIG welds cant be planished. You have to cool as no other way to prevent excessive heat and no way to hammer dolly weld. Cold dolly?
      Read what I wrote the idea is to get more heat into the panel to sink that weld and get 75% penetration so you can grind which with mig is all u can do. Look at the lack of penetration from no heat spot welds. MIG welds crack from grinding and trying to work. Brittle! Repair will ghost.
      TIG or gas it isn't the process its the ability to planish and work the panel after.

      You missed the “rhetorical“ part.

    • @OddJobFix
      @OddJobFix ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bimotahb1 Tell me more about planishing MIG. You use ER70S-2 or 6? I'm not interested in what process you use. Unless you want to compare heat zones.

    Well done man, I've followed this build for a while and love where it is headed. Even though it's sacrilege and just like Mike Burrough's Ferrari, it's the good kind of sacrilege that makes a classic into something so much more and I'm glad you are building it.

    Really looking forward to the next few months with the engine component getting wrapped up- that's what brought me to this build in the first place- always through an ez30 flat six was a great swap choice for this- glad someone is finally doing it! Twin Turbos just makes it more WRX-like but the flat 6 layout is oh-so-Porsche.

    Mike, it's soooooo exciting to watch any new episode you post as you draw closer to the finish line and pass through your different stages. I'm super stoked about the upcoming work you're gonna get going on. I too own an EZ30, still in my Outback, which will eventually go into something else along with a Subaru 5MT I have here somewhere. Get on it, son!!! And thank you for being as crazy (crazier?) As all us restomod/JDM hacker addicts. Cheers from that other Mike in Catalunya x
