Thank you so much for this. The entire long night, night's king, the others etc., are my favourite part of the lore. The spookiness of it all is perfect for October and winter in general.

Stannis looks to be playing out the roll of the Night’s king in the books. A lot of what he’s doing and he’s all about mirrors the Night’s Kings storyline.

Night's Queen was probably a Wildling greenseer / woods witch and by Wildling tradition he kidnapped her and made her his wife. The rest of his crew took spearwives as well and they started sacrificing their babies to the Nightfort wierwood following traditions for the Old Gods. It's paralleled by Craster in the main story. The Black Gate talks and has intense magic even after all this time. I still think that The Wall wasn't even built yet at the time of the 13th Lord Commander and that it's just part of the myth that developed into the campfire tale.

I think Night's Queen was a post ice transformation Danny Flint and I think Flints were originally an early dragon rider family. Night's King put his sword through her heart creating Lightbringer but she didnt die. Her life fire went into the sword which transformed her from a fire goddess mother of dragons type to an icy mother of others. I believe this is the foreshadowing for Jon and Danaerys.

The whole timeline is a bit foggy. It makes sense that nights king was the commander during the first long night, 13 years is about a generation in this show. Remember all we have is memories from maesters really

Old Nan is such a shithouse 😂
All of her stories have a large dash of truth. How she knows some of these things is unclear.
However, all of her stories also include a lot of creative licence, purely to scare the shit out of children hahaha.
Overall, I think that every time we read Old Nan talking, we need to play close attention. But as Maester Lewin says, don't swallow it whole. She talks a lot of shite, whilst also being an elite foreshadower. You can't not love Old Nan.

Like how can she smell a comet and know that it means dragons? Old Nan knows dragons are back meanwhile Melisandre has no clue.

Old Nan is a glammored Child of the Forest. Maggie the Frog was as well. Having connection with the weirwoods she has the ability to know history and make predictions. Ned knew her as Old Nan when he was a boy. When Theon claims he killed Bran, Old Nan goes into disbelief and disappears soon after. Likely she traveled north of the wall through the weirwood network and resumed her position as Leaf. Leaf herself is over 200 years old.

@@emrek99205 Old Nan is Hodor's great grandmother and came to Winterfell as a wet nurse. If what you are saying were correct, then it implies that this race of diminutive forest creatures can interbreed with humans and that apparently the seed is not strong because they're about 4 feet tall and Hodor is enormous.

I refuse to believe Craster's sons were turned into Others. We've seen an Other die and it was made of ice. Completely inhuman, no way it started out as a human baby. Maybe they get some life force or magical power from sacrifices but they don't adopt them as their own. That was a story a bunch of grieving women invented to comfort themselves: their babies didn't die of exposure, they were taken in by fairies and have better lives now... Yeah, right. I believe it when I see it in the books.
Anyway, I think Night's King's corpse bride could have been a wight if she was like Coldhands. Meaning the Children were controlling her from the beginning... But to what end?

There's so many questions about the nights king. Did he create the others? Was his 13 year reign the long night? Was he just a servant of the others? Was nights queen an other or some kind of greenseer/cotf? Were his children half other assuming his wife was?
His whole tale goes against so much that we know of the others such as
    Seemingly no female others.
Others shouldnt be around during his time.
Others seemingly cant procreate like humans.
Others havent demonstrated mind control like magic, so unless nights king killed and resurected the nights watches corpses, how did he use magic to bind them to his will?
Some fans think that nights king caused the original long night, I'm on the fence that he was after the long night but both theories have major flaws. The wall being erect would suggest that he lived after the long night but it would also suggest that the Others were gone/dormant, the theory of him causing the long night also makes no sense since the existence of watch and wall, again, tells us that the long night had already happened so its just a whole mess of a tale. George definitely needs to give some clarity on the nights king and queen if the tales of old nan are accurate anyway.

Oh is that happen, really? Funny, Westeros is strange place. What Martin said is one is as likely to exist today as the other. What if one of them is the other? When Jaime had his Fever dream? Where was he when the Icy dead came for him? Casterly Rock. Funny thing about Casterly rock, not only is it older than Winterfell, but just like Winterfell it started as a ring fort. In the age of hero’s the Night Kings name was removed from history, the Casterlys also vanished, but that’s when the Starks appeared. Winterfell was built after the long night. The First keep the oldest structure at Winterfell, what did they find in it? A couple lions? What did Bran say about the gargoyles of the first keep? So worn down by weather time, he said, they may have been lions once. Planetos is not a low magic world, it’s magic world that goes through low and high cycles. We also know in the world magic can retard aging. Just ask Mel. The Measters are often wrong, like Giants don’t exist, neither do the Others, or the Children. Ask yourself, you have seen the Wildlings, true first men, early Bronze Age technology at best. Why is it 8000 years ago a guy name Brandon the builder was building Castles, huge ones, with plumbing, and using sigils? Not very first men like. For first men, northerners act a whole lot like Andals. Lann was Andal, and he was here 6000 years before he should have been. Weird how Lan and Bran sound like names of brothers. Starks look like first men, but they been marrying northerners for a long time. The Starks are not early first men, they are Andals, like Lann was, using Andal technology, like Castles, and round turrets and towers. The first keep must have been rebuilt they say, except it’s still older than the square towers. Old enough for granite statues to almost completely erode. Also just because you haven’t seen a female Other, doesn’t mean they didn’t exist once. Obviously it is used to draw a parallel to Stannis and Mel, but in Westeros, history has a bad habit of repeating itself. Oh look another long night oh Look a clever man from the Rock, oh look a Stark named Brandon, oh look an Amethyst eyed empress in Esos, oh look the Prince that was promised a hero to fight the Others. Wow, so different from the last time this happened.

I know there's stories that the pale Lady he found was perhaps a daughter of the Barrow Kings, who had a "corpse" like appearance. That would lend creedence to the theory he was just a man of the nightwatch who went rogue. I'm actually liking the idea she may not have been a white walker or even a wight. But rather just a woman and his tale is a warning. It's fun to theorize but like not every tale needs an epic magical truth you know?

    • @akeelyaqub2538
      @akeelyaqub2538 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Everything about the tale is inconsistent with what we know about the others, their magic and procreation.
The timeline would suggest that it happened after the long night so no Others would even be around.
The others dont mind control, they control the dead so unless nights king and queen raised wights, they seemingly had powers no Other has ever shown or been hinted at having.
So the tale is either a fabrication or a massive case of chinese whispers so I agree, there was likely no magic or Others involved.

I don't think the Others take Craster's sons because there are no women, but because there are no men. In ASOIAF, it's the men that go off to war and die, leaving the women and children behind. The Others seem to be able to live for hundreds of years, if not outright immortal, and if that is the case, they'd probably have a similar reproduction cycle to the Children of the Forest who live for hundreds of years and probably have children spread out over decades. If that's the case, the Others were probably left with very few men and children, needing people like Night's King and Craster to give up their sons to help repopulate their ranks. We only refer to the Others as men, because one of Craster's daughter-wives said they were. Someone may not have necessarily seen the Others, but aware that Craster gives his sons to them. We're assuming that because of what she said, they're all magically turned into what the Others look like, therefore assuming that there are no female others. I could be wrong and there are no female Others and the transformation is entirely magical, it is a fantasy. But I don't think that's entirely the case.
