@Suja Prakash : Hi Mam, I have got the visa today where I see below verbiage. Could you please confirm if I will be able to either convert my entry from e visa to oci.
"e-Visa is non-extendable, non-convertible & not valid for visiting Protected/Restricted and Cantonment Areas.If you intend to visit Protected/Restricted/Cantonment areas, you would require prior permission from the Civil Authority.

I have one more doubt though, my visa is expiring in 4 months, I'll be in India next week. if I don't get OCI card before 4 months then should I go for a visa extension also? Hello Suja, thank you for the valuable information provided in the video. However, I have a special case. My wife (India Citizen) gave birth to a baby 5 months ago in India. Currently staying in India with baby. I'm an Australian Citizen and child is eligible for Australian passport. It may take another 3 months to get the Australian passport to the child. Once I get the Australian PASSPORT for my child, what should I really apply from FRRO? Exit Permit or Visa? Do I have to pay any penalty of this? Please help as this information is not available anywhere.

we finally got married (in april 2022) under special marriage act type.
after that we applied at E-FRRO for my wife's spouse visa and uploaded all the documents/proofs asked by FRRO website. After waiting for 1-2 months,we got stay visa (for 3months) instead of a long term visa / x1 visa. Now we should apply for conversion of this visa to x1 visa? Can you guide please,it will be a great help for us.

Suja thanks for the video. unfortunately the frro office is not allowing the conversion of visa to oci In India and say you need to head back to the us and re enter if you want the oci to be established. could you please point out how you found out that this is possible so I can point the same out to the frro office.
Hi Suja, Thanks for sharing this .i have clarification for my scenario . My infant daughter currently in india which she went through evisa that is valid for 1 year . But one of the line states that at the max she can stay only 180 days in india [ wea re planning to come back US after 180 days]. Currently we got oci card for her and do we need to follow the process to extend the current evisa[clarification here is she got one year visa] or change visa to oci and also what happen during port of entry from india to USA travel if we are not doing this.

I submitted the application by choosing "Conversion Type = Visa (Radio button)". Waiting to hear from the FRRO Guys. I will record my experience in a blog and share it here.
I submitted the application to convert Entry Visa to OCI but they only extended my visa for 6 more months. This means that i have to go out of the country and come back to activate OCI.

Yes your fathers address proof along with consent letter and adhaar card should be fine ..

Also, I noticed that the electricity bill has our current address while his aadhar card has the old address. Do you think that might be an issue?
Adhaar card you can update addresses digitally, so please try to do that submit a updated printout , this will avoid delays

It means applying for new OCI. You cant convert if you already have a OCI card from usa
@@ansar133 this is incorrect. the OCI website clearly states that you cannot apply for OCI while in India. and you have to be a resident of India which means a continuous stay of 180 days which is the visa limit to begin with. so basically everyone including the frro people are confused.
Foreign nationals cannot apply for OCI in India while on Tourist Visa, Missionary Visa and Mountaineering Visa. Moreover, the foreigner has to be ordinarily resident of India to be eligible to apply for OCI registration in India.
Note: 'ordinarily resident' will mean a person staying in a particular country or in India for a continuous period of 6 months.

My spouse got his US visa before my entry visa expired and my OCI card arrived the day before we flew to the US. 😬 That last week was so stressful and we had to reschedule our flights, but finally got it before leaving. It took 4 months to process.

Hi Suja, I have an urgent query. My friend is oci holder but her US passport is expiring in March. She has travel plan to India in December first week. They got the tickets already. Can she travel with this passport or she has to get it renewed as it will expire in less than 6 months?
I believe she can travel to India with her existing U.S passport. But your friend must come back to United States before her U.S passport expires in March. She cannot live in India past U.S passport expiration since she is OCI card holder.

Please verify with the airline, some airline won’t allow boarding with less than 6 months validity passport.. you can return back even with less than 6 months validy because your returning to home country

First of all, thank you for helping thousands of people. Can you please help me with a quick question? I have a baby born in the USA and I came to India on an Entry Visa for 6 months. Meanwhile I have already initiated a process of OCI and it got delivered to my USA address. Right now the baby is in India on an Entry visa but wants to convert stay from an Entry visa to OCI. The problem is, OCI got delivered to the USA address and Ahmedabad FRRO told me that I can't bring OCI via courier in India. So please provide suggestions on how I can convert a baby's stay from an Entry visa to OCI. Will it be the same process mentioned in this video?

I went to Nepal and came back on OCI.

@@jaggana8507 Yes, that's the only way, visa cannot be converted to OCI. I belive you can come back the same day but why not stay couple days in the other country if you are spending so much for the tickets?

Thank you for informative video @Suja Prakash. Situation = We arrived with newborn baby in India with 1 year Entry-Visa and then later I physically got the OCI when travelled alone. We tried to convert our kid Status for Entry Visa conversion to OCI from FRRO online and we provided all documents including OCI copy. But they rejected it stating that we have to Contact OCI office, not sure if they really read the whole request document 😞 Where I am staying doesn't have FRRO office should I go to SP police of our city. Please let us know is it really possible to convert Status from Entry visa to OCI. Most of the forum stated to visit nearby country and then re-entry in India with OCI to update Status. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Suja, I have applied for OCI conversion in FRRO for my child. They asked for additional documentation which are (1)FORM C and (4)REQUEST LETTER FOR STAY 6MONTHS/1 OR 2 YEARS. Do you have any idea about these? Should Form C be filled with details of my child or the house owner? Please advise

Thanks Suja , this is very helpful info. For converting from entry visa to OCI (after receiving it from USA) instead of approaching FRRO for conversion, can we travel to neighboring country like Thailand and then return back to India so entry is then stamped with OCI ?

@@ansar133 we applied e-visa online then we reached out to frro online and applied for extension with all the required documentation. When we applied for extension frro converted it to Entry visa since it is extensible.

Once your done with marriage, apply for entry visa (1 yr) instead of e visa with marriage certificate as a proof.. and then convert the e visa to entry visa

We applied OCI and we didn't receive it before the planned travel date and hence we applied for e-visa which we got only for 30 days due to Pandemic times and my kid travelled to India on e-visa. After we received the OCI, we have couriered it to India and have applied for OCI conversion. This step wasn't easy for us. We applied it through FRRO website, they will ask for a bunch of documents. In our case, we live in AP and FRRO office is in HYD. They kept telling us to reach out to the regional FRRO office and not HYD office but there isn't any FRRO office in AP at that time. And they have told us to take the kid back to USA as the e-visa is soon approaching. We went in-person to the office and paid the fee, submitted the application physically and got the conversion completed.
