Just for the record, the publisher are allowed to change a bit, but mostly for the RNG elements. In Taiwan, there is a mobo MMO called Lineage M. It was developed in S. Korea as well. Few months ago, there was a streamer actually testing the RNG elements on stream (by spending around 36k USD, it is pay-to-win, afterall). And the publisher appearantly set the success rates LOWER than the actual rates disclosed by their Korean counterpart.
But of course. Westerners are way too bitchy and you need to satisfy their desires in order to get them to spend their money. Since those desires are a bit hard to reach, better make it easier for that money to flow in. It's patience. They are banking on patience.
Lineage M is even funnier. They had an event and during the event they had server issues. So they made a rollback and people lost the items they bought for $$$. Devs response? They gave players some worthless currency and company kept the money. So some guy who spent like 2 millions USD over multiple years was camping in front of their office and wanted his money back. He got only arrested

If you don't want to do it, you don't have to do it, but there's no reason to explain It is a lie to say that you don't want to do it because it is p2w. I think for us people who have played these types of mmo's before we already know and have an expectation for how things are gonna go so we understand exactly what you're saying. a lot of the hype right now for lost ark is from people who do not know, but they will find out. I give it a years time.

The reason why most Korean MMOs remove story elements is that their way of telling stories becomes so scatterbrained, that it takes them 10 years to remember they've trailed off the beaten path and thus have to trim the fat/bloat from the story to keep it focused again.

I liked that he brought up DFO since that game started on the wrong foot in Global (EXP was a lot harder to get, quest items weren't guaranteed so you had to repeat the same quest multiple times, enemies had horrible scaling and were incredibly hard to kill at times) which ruined whatever momentum the game had at the time, Global DFO patched out a lot of that away and have made it significantly less stupid to level up and grind late game but the damage is done :( Also that's only concurrent players playing DFO on the Steam Launcher, game has it's own launcher on their website which doesn't show active users, same as FFXIV.
Also so funny when later when talking about upgrades he mentions 1st awakening, 2nd awakening, upgrading gear to +15, etc... This is the exact same model DFO uses for upgrades lmao.
Tbh, that video sounds to me like forced exaggeration to generate clicks with something controversial and it worked out, because people who were against it at the beginning and have no idea how the western version differs specifically, use it as their fuel now. He's very vague with some stuff, which i think is on purpose and i wouldn't be surprised if some of this is straight up wrong for the western version.
@@paddyyy_ Some things could change, but I doubt it would be significant, most of the systems sound up to par with what it usually is in Korean MMOs, like I mentioned on my previous post, a lot of the systems seem borrowed and you'd expect out of those (i.e. awakening, multiple forms of upgrades which take high tier materials, RNG when upgrading, chance to lose items, etc) and ultimately you don't need to overly explain how system works since a lot of that gets even more confusing. A small, concise video explaining the gist of it to a general audience is more appealing and probably better for a lot of people that might want to get into it but don't know much about the game or for people that know enough already from playing other mmos.

I don't think people played enough f2p korean mmo to understand that the first couple months is fun, but then when new contents start rolling in that's when the real p2w start. It's always like this. And as stated in the video new contents also make previous contents obsolete so if you start Lost Ark late, you either pay tons of money to catch up or you'll just forever be behind and can never find people to do old contents with. Basically you save more money with a monthly subscription with a game like FF14 more than the F2P korean mmo.
Peak savings is playing both. I'm taking full advantage of the couple fun months from Lost Ark during the FFXIV content draught and once that's done there should be new content in FFXIV.
I think bdo does a good job at making end game gear actually obtainable. I tried to hit lost ark 560ilvl and failed 8 times now I’m supposed to make 4 Alts to do dailies and weeklys while swipers are already at 1200ilvl….

Played TERA between Generation 1 and 3, I managed to build a GenWeapon most tiers and base +12 armor (never 15). Was fun in Generation 1 but miserable in 3 and 4 and I quit forever when 5 released. This game seems like it's got the same model, it will do well and make a lot of money then slowly die just like TERA and AION as the monetization kills it.
For people who are confuse why the maximum visa is an instant straight upward progression it's because you are +25-ing a lower raid gear, which provides insane stats as compared to a +10/15 of a slightly higher tier gear. But the game is designed to be near impossible to +25 unless you swipe. You basically can just skip all the boss 2,3,4 gears with a max out 1 boss gear straight to 5 Dual wielding credit cards win

System's undeniably garbage but glad I don't give a shit about BIS tryharding. Just playing the game casually like a single player game and will get out once the grind hits, don't think the P2W is worth completely avoiding it. There's some fun to have.
Many years ago a super whale Korean player said that the game is p2w and will not survive in the west, so nothing new for me and my region is blocked anyway.
The game will survive simply because of the whales that will be spending thousands on it. That doesnt mean that the ecosystem of the game will be in a healthy or even fun state. No one likes getting stomped on by the 40 top players who decided they wanted to all form a guild together so they'd never lose anything ever.
People taking the term "pay 2 win" literally is funny. We get it, Lost Ark doesn't need it to be maxed out to clear the content. You don't have to pay money to achieve enough to play the game. That's not the problem. The problem is the game artificially slows progress in order to push their pay system. Example: quest requires you to make 3 potions with your stronghold. However, you need to upgrade your workshop to lvl 2 to make that potion. It takes 12hrs to upgrade the workshop. That's the problem. A trivial quest takes 12hrs to complete.
@OJ_FurryLover I never got into it, but I've played similar mobile games. It's the same concept. Stronghold acts like a mobile game and upgrading cost resources and takes lots of real hours to wait for it. However, if you act now you can use these crystals to instantly upgrade. Out of crystals? No worries, you can buy it in our cash shop.
You can't skip all the cutscenes, mainly the ones that take the longest to get through and even if you could skip them the story is still unreasonably long for what it's telling.

BDO is still alive and working well. Tons of people play it, certainly enough to keep the game afloat. It's regularly updated. It makes a bunch of money. Is it WoW or FFXIV? @4:12 Just for the people that don't understand why some people DONT think Lost Ark is Pay to Win, it is because it's games like Corssfire why the term "Pay to Win" even exists. Way before Lost Ark or even Warframe was a thing, games like Crossfire, Combat Arms, and even the early days of World of Tanks gave players the ability to purchase premium items that gave players a power advantage in a PVP game. Key word there is PVP. It's an entirely more dangerous thing than someone rushing progression with real money. You could buy golden ammo in World of tanks to straight up have bonus damage against players and games like Combat Arms/Crossfire had premium shops where the best gear and weapons in the game could only be obtained with real money. THAT is the definition of LITERALLY paying to win. And it's these games that made the video game community create the term P2W back in the day. The issue is that games like Lost ark and Warframe are different. You are technically paying to progress (which obviously comes with its own issues, there's no denying that) but someone paying for items in Lost Ark is not causing harm to someone else's experience. But in Crossfire, you sure as hell are hurting everyone else by decking yourself out in exclusive OP gear that free players have to just deal with. These games have always been called Pay to Win and still will always be. But we really need to educate ourselves on the difference between a game like Lost Ark and Crossfire. Very different games when it comes to the advantages you get for paying. And when a bunch of gamers say "Lost Ark is Pay to Win," please understand why people disagree with you. Because that term already existed for games like Crossfire, and it is absolutely not as cancerous as Lost Ark. That's why I will always continue to call Warframe and Lost Ark Pay to Progress. And if you've seen CohhCarnage's infamous "thoughts on Lost Ark" video, hopefully you understand why he calls these games Pay to Progress as well. Imagine whaling and spending a college degree worth of money to do 5% or less damage endgame more than f2p chads while still getting 1shot by mechanics. Also a note for 35:18 he's assuming you are going for the max upgrade. Pretty much nobody that is clearing those endgame raids bothers going that high. The actual time investment is much much lower to get your foot in the door and clear all the content. There is a point where it's no longer worth it to bother upgrading and instead focus on collectibles and other horizontal progression because you can already clear. In Aion terms it would be like going over the softcap on a stat with manastones and going all the way to hardcap, those extra stats become negligible. In something like FFXIV terms it would be like spending a ton of money on the crafted gear that has a few item levels over your roulette gear, buying the absolute "best" materia when a new patch drops in order to clear the first savage when you could have cleared it for a much much cheaper cost and had the same outcome. Also in terms of the resources and alts, in Korea and other servers there were many events that gave out free lvl 50 alts essentially. So if you take your time and just play the game normally you will likely be handed alts that you can log on to just once a week for some extra resources. People focus too much on being the absolute maximum ilvl and how ridiculous it is to achieve. It's an unachievable point to reach even for 99.99% of whales.

The korean game devs have full control over all game mechanics. The publisher can do very little beside game master services. They can make suggestions to korea to change stuff but not do anything them self. Played blade and soul for a good two years and this is very similar.
So they're ok with giving all control with game mechanics over to korean devs but took a hard stance and spent as much resources as possible to claim the ability to censor panties and booba. Amazon definitely got their priorities straight.
I still don't understand, or maybe my experience with MMO's is vastly different from everyone else. I paid for a founder's pack and I don't regret doing it. I have never bought anything from Mari's shop, still have ALL my yellow crystals, never lacked any gold and never lacked any blue crystals either for slot expansions, ship skin, skin set for virtues, a cool mount and a nice pet. I don't give a shit if people throw money at the game to gear themselves faster and unlock new content faster than anyone else. I'll play the game at my own pace. I'm ok with trying to beat sea of indolence 50 times before I actually succeed. I was ok in dieing against tytalos 30 times before actually killing it. I am ok with completing tomes. There's no fucking shot I'll ever even succeed in the completing the hard raids because I'm not gonna sweat myself into memorizing 30 different attacks and 4 wipe mechanics, all the while having to deal with stagger and weak point damage checks. Just let people throw money at it, the impact they have on YOUR gameplay is minimum at best since they all raid in their elitistic guilds, with boosted discords and ranks like it's the fucking military. Boohoo, someone paid and completed a raid before we did. The disgrace. The chaos. The end of the fucking world!
What is quite bad is fact that most of these island quests are super boring. For example there is island where you teach some bird to fly... in the end you must run around island in circle like 10 times... most of "game experience" is talk with NPC (spam button G) only so he send you to next NPC (more spam of button G), eventually it will send you to next island where you repeat same g button spamming... in the end of such "quest" you come back to NPC who give you as reward some chest with material... Right now there are people who want skip boring quests (game content) so they just pay money and buy material from cash shop. So in the end 90% of gameplay is boring af.
Ah, kMMOs... RO was my first journey in the genre around 2002ish... getting 10% exp per hour on a Vit Swordsman at level 50ish in Mjolnir 1 trying to grind out those last job levels to class change to Knight was a terror I went through at least 3 times... .... then the REAL grind started.
Now that's a massive mood, probably the biggest reason I moved away from the official servers and mostly played on private ones. The game was amazing and grinding isn't that bad, but 1x rates were just pain.
I still remember the days of trying to upggrade my gear to the meta of +7, farming 0.01% card drops for sub stats and then just losing my mind at all the times I failed the +6 upgrade and sent back to the farm mines
It's doomed to decline for the simple reason that greedy ass game binds skins to a single character in a single server, and mounts to a single server roster of characters. It cannot be carried over! No account bound!
@@sunbark4927 gold is a limited resource for F2P, plus it's one of the resources you use to upgrade gear, so if you use it to buy a mount/skins, bye bye upgrade or vice versa.

@@yangnator7168 Gold is not so limited that you can't spend 50 to expedite your strongold progression if you wanted to. later in the game you can sell accessories and engravings for upwards of 100k gold. 50 gold is absolutely nothing.
few mounts in ffxiv are account wide and most glams are character-locked. there are definitely valid criticisms to be made against lost ark but i don’t think this is one of them.
The games not bad overall. I don't get why everyone wants to be able to finish content in a week. Who cares if it takes a year to i max stats and all that crap? I mean gives you more play time in the game instead of hitting and beatting everything in a week and then spending 6 months looking for a new game to rush and "win".. They're MMO its not supposed to be quick.
Those numbers are never acceptable. That’s specifically for that gear that if the game updates healthily, will be replaced with next content patch which you’ll then have to start all over. That is specifically why games like those never find success. Its dishonest behavior attempting to entrap your attention for all the wrong reasons.
Fundamental misunderstanding that you're supposed to 'cap' in this game. The games content ends WAY before you reach +25 on anything. It essentially exists just so people still have something to play for after they've beaten everything. Calculating the resources required for +25 is very silly.
Very true... Right now there are only 3 tiers with no plans for T4 and you need to upgrade two times to +15 right now. Thats it. (Without paying any money I was able to do that in two weeks...)
Ive been saying this about Lost Ark when it was announced for release in the US. This game currently is monitization and pay to win hell. What makes anyone think it will be dofferent?
I was laughing my ass off for the entire launch day on Steam forums, it was a salt mine of idiots who bought the 100$ pre-orders, then couldn't play. Now it's full of the same idiots on copium who realized they need to keep putting the money into the game to stay competitive with other pay pigs. And I'm not even mad. It was a great con job by Amazon. They saw a lot of easy money and idiots who can be easily parted with it, and they made it happen. EZ.
Of course it is pay to win, but it is really buy to win faster. If you want to sink at least a year of your life into tryharding you can do all of it without paying anything, but they are betting you are going to get sick of that 6 months or so and cave. Most F2P games have that model tbh. The question is can you still have fun playing the game, knowing that you are probably never going to achieve true BIS or can you only have fun if you are BIS and you don't want to pay for it or grind it out. For me, right now, the game is fun. If I get bored because I haven't got good enough gear to progress further and I don't want to put the time effort in I will simply stop playing and enjoy the memories. From what I have heard, gear is normalized in PVP (3v3), so P2W doesn't factor in there and probably where I would focus on for as long as it keeps my interest.
Once you realize 90% of gameplay is spamming button G or failing your upgrades you will change your mind. Arena is another story and its more like seperated mode from game.
@Xenosys Vex Naw Tera was +12, Alkahest was for enchanting along with another piece of gear that went into the same slot, master engimatic scrolls were for rerolling and masterworking the gear (non-masterwork gear can only go to +9) and spellbind was for locking the stats. Later on in the game's life some gear could be awakened and it would go to +15 but it was really cringe.

Learn that there are multiple ways of showing dates. dd/mm/yy is more common in countries using British English. Americans on the other hand use mm/dd/yy. Anyway Lost Ark will always be one of the TOP MMOrpgs out there regardless of the P2W aspects of the game simply because the mechanics and end game is much more polished than a lot of the other MMOs out there. To say that it will fail when it has already one of the best launches in the west is entirely copium and no I don't play the game but have played the game in Korea and no I am not a supporter of it but just simply saying that it will fail because of P2W elements is lame. No matter how long progression takes there still is progression on a daily basis and tons of game activities to do rather than just staying in town and waiting for raids and do dailies like in other MMOs. Look at amazon's other mmo and see how well that did with its non p2w factors.

02/06/22 is WRONG also. The international date format is the only logical choice. The universally accepted time format is HOURS:MINUTES:SECONDS. So why isnt YYYY/MM/DD? They both conform to the rule of most significant to least significant, allowing people to read left to right which most of us are already conditioned to do, and eliminating potential misunderstandings due to different date formats.

For those of you who see it negatively, do you not want to spend time on the game, do not want to spend some hobby money, and want to finish the final content? I want to know your mind. P2W is a shortcut used only by those who can't play slowly and want to climb quickly.

kmmo's can be super fucking good gameplay wise but all this p2w shit will never work in the long run in the west, I too used to play Blade&Souls for a long time and was so sick of it at some point. You can't tell me that it's a good thing that you need to upgrade your base weapon to even continue the msq and the upgrade you need drops in the first real dungeon...a dungeon that I had to run atleast 20 times for the weapon to drop.
From 1.3 mil players to 300k in 2 months. It is losing roughly 5-10k players every weak. As for PvP having balanced gears, as commendable as that may be, it ultimately made gaming experience for several classes shittier, as equalizing the pvp experience gives advantage to some classes over others, mainly support classes. Trying PvPing with Paladin/Bard. Good luck with that.
Personally I'm loving the game but acknowledge all the issues. People who say the game is not ptw are under heavy copium. Which will become even harder copium due to the game actually having extremely generous catch up mechanics when new content comes out. People who try harder since launch without spending money can already be at or close to T3 due to how much Amazon is expediting people to endgame. Seen arguments that it's not ptw because of how much gold you make at endgame but that still doesn't matter because the very fact you can still buy gold with real money. Same thing, different bullshit argument The thing with this game is though, the content, world, and gameplay is a cut above the rest imo. There is such an amazing foundation here that many critics seem more petty than it being actually bad. I've played most of the Korean MMOs and you could immediately tell they had no future outside of whales. This one though does everything right and more. I think if we can get the changes we want on the western servers that would be great but I see as highly unlikely. Even with their proven track record of changing ptw systems when the community wants them changed. I get that same feeling from these devs that I get from the FF devs, just in a vastly different market. (Gotten a lot of shit for this take but for everything I've seen these are extremely passionate devs that are just trapped with the KMMO model) With vastly different pressures. If the changes happen then the game definitely has a large future, I think it'll still be a success without massive changes though

I mean, for me P2W is simply applied when is against other players, pvp... Because you PAY to be BETTER than others on the game and have an advantage. If its not pvp, we dont call it P2W just because you buy gear, pve is against the AI, is coop... for a lot of ppl that is P2F Pay to fast or Pay to accelerate, accelerate the process as a lot of players called on Warframe. If not, you just keep playing till you get the gear or the upgrades. So I can assume that when I see others saying that this is p2w is because they think like you, but for me the meaning of P2W was always tied to pvp, because when ppl complained or rage about P2W mechanics was always a complain related to other players killing them. Gamers in the old 'terms' are not even in the double digits in population today, 'Gamers' as defined by businesses and corporations, involving anyone who plays 'any' games for 'any' period of times, are everywhere. You might see 250,000 players in one game on Steam, but that's tiny versus millions in a country, and billions in the world? Population of USA alone is 330 millions give or take some numbers... So 'gamers' (or no-lifers in this case) are a scarce commodity that these publishers don't give a damn about.
To be fair, the video is very very misleading. Under 200 people in KR have full +25 gear, because it's absurd. You can clear all content available in the game with +15 on your gear, which requires $0 spent, just gotta run content and hit the upgrade button. That's not to say this game doesn't have pay2progress/win, it does, but you don't NEED to be +25 in order to do anything, it's just there for whales to flex their wallet and still be trash at the game.
The problem with Lost Ark is that its SO REPETIVE on every damn map. Same crap over and over again . The you have to PAY real money to "upgrade armor/weapons" which is P2W ! Gold is by paying real money or selling some things online. Like Guild Wars 2 The loot you find is total sh!t. You only get max 2 different swords or staffs. BS... Nothing like "Dungeon Siege 1/2" which is massive amount of armor/weapons to chose from.

We got all the nerfs + missing content in T3 without the compensation KR received when the nerfs were made. In addition, various content that in RU/KR/JP is available between gear score 1325 to 1355 has been moved to gear score 1340 and 1370. That is why we have this content void between 1340 to 1370. This was made to incentivize spending.

Don't listen to the russian ape, zeghart and other haters and mmo tribalists. Lost ark is not p2w. As a matter of fact, in korea there are f2p players in top500 players. One of the top korean f2p streamers has stated that whales constantly get kicked out of the parties in harder raids, cuz money can't buy skill in this game, and pvp has equalized gear. So there is basically nothing to win. Our version also got a massive improvements over russian and korean server, further invalidating what the russian ape said. And also, his video was debunked by korean players when it comes to damage difference, by using a damage formula that this russian guy apparently doesn't even know. There are already 1350+ ilvl f2p players on our version too, so it defeats any argument russian ape made.

How to play korean MMOs: You play for a few month until the grind starts, then you stop. Most of the time you had a few months of fun gameplay up to that point.
the truth is if you can accese to final content in one day, that does not mean you can finish the content in one day. you only can buy the upgrade materials not gear it self, you should farm your gears like couple of months and upgrade them. even if you have full sets of gear, you still know nothing. which means you have to do nonestop 24hrs real fckin hard try if you want clear in one day for each bosses. which is imposible.

TLDR; Korean MMOs are great free singleplayer/coop games. As MMOs, they suck your wallet and/or soul. Korean MMOs are awesome if you treat them as singleplayer games: Blade and Soul, Vindictus and Lost Ark all have terrible monetization but I think their gameplays blow WoW, PoE and FFXIV out of the bloody water. Heck, Vindictus did soulslike combat around the same time as FromSoft and they made it way more fun. So, what you do is either go in solo or group up with your pal(s) to go through the content at your own pace completely free (or give a few bucks, your call), then uninstall it. No you pay to play the game, all you're doing is paying to skip the boring ass story with terrible writing, months of repetitive grinding on alts and your main. You get to pay and play in the endgame raids, die a lot and just have fun.
Just for the record, the publisher are allowed to change a bit, but mostly for the RNG elements. In Taiwan, there is a mobo MMO called Lineage M. It was developed in S. Korea as well. Few months ago, there was a streamer actually testing the RNG elements on stream (by spending around 36k USD, it is pay-to-win, afterall). And the publisher appearantly set the success rates LOWER than the actual rates disclosed by their Korean counterpart.
But of course. Westerners are way too bitchy and you need to satisfy their desires in order to get them to spend their money. Since those desires are a bit hard to reach, better make it easier for that money to flow in. It's patience. They are banking on patience.
Lineage M is even funnier. They had an event and during the event they had server issues. So they made a rollback and people lost the items they bought for $$$. Devs response? They gave players some worthless currency and company kept the money.

The reason why most Korean MMOs remove story elements is that their way of telling stories becomes so scatterbrained, that it takes them 10 years to remember they've trailed off the beaten path and thus have to trim the fat/bloat from the story to keep it focused again.

I liked that he brought up DFO since that game started on the wrong foot in Global (EXP was a lot harder to get, quest items weren't guaranteed so you had to repeat the same quest multiple times, enemies had horrible scaling and were incredibly hard to kill at times) which ruined whatever momentum the game had at the time, Global DFO patched out a lot of that away and have made it significantly less stupid to level up and grind late game but the damage is done :(
Also that's only concurrent players playing DFO on the Steam Launcher, game has it's own launcher on their website which doesn't show active users, same as FFXIV.
Also so funny when later when talking about upgrades he mentions 1st awakening, 2nd awakening, upgrading gear to +15, etc... This is the exact same model DFO uses for upgrades lmao.

@@paddyyy_ Some things could change, but I doubt it would be significant, most of the systems sound up to par with what it usually is in Korean MMOs, like I mentioned on my previous post, a lot of the systems seem borrowed and you'd expect out of those (i.e. awakening, multiple forms of upgrades which take high tier materials, RNG when upgrading, chance to lose items, etc) and ultimately you don't need to overly explain how system works since a lot of that gets even more confusing. A small, concise video explaining the gist of it to a general audience is more appealing and probably better for a lot of people that might want to get into it but don't know much about the game or for people that know enough already from playing other mmos.

I don't think people played enough f2p korean mmo to understand that the first couple months is fun, but then when new contents start rolling in that's when the real p2w start. It's always like this. And as stated in the video new contents also make previous contents obsolete so if you start Lost Ark late, you either pay tons of money to catch up or you'll just forever be behind and can never find people to do old contents with. Basically you save more money with a monthly subscription with a game like FF14 more than the F2P korean mmo.
Peak savings is playing both. I'm taking full advantage of the couple fun months from Lost Ark during the FFXIV content draught and once that's done there should be new content in FFXIV.
I think bdo does a good job at making end game gear actually obtainable. I tried to hit lost ark 560ilvl and failed 8 times now I’m supposed to make 4 Alts to do dailies and weeklys while swipers are already at 1200ilvl….
Only that Lost ARK has been out in Korea for 2 years, and "but then when new contents start rolling in that's when the real p2w start." is still yet o happen.
Played TERA between Generation 1 and 3, I managed to build a GenWeapon most tiers and base +12 armor (never 15). Was fun in Generation 1 but miserable in 3 and 4 and I quit forever when 5 released. This game seems like it's got the same model, it will do well and make a lot of money then slowly die just like TERA and AION as the monetization kills it.

For people who are confuse why the maximum visa is an instant straight upward progression it's because you are +25-ing a lower raid gear, which provides insane stats as compared to a +10/15 of a slightly higher tier gear. But the game is designed to be near impossible to +25 unless you swipe. You basically can just skip all the boss 2,3,4 gears with a max out 1 boss gear straight to 5

Many years ago a super whale Korean player said that the game is p2w and will not survive in the west, so nothing new for me and my region is blocked anyway.
The game will survive simply because of the whales that will be spending thousands on it.
That doesnt mean that the ecosystem of the game will be in a healthy or even fun state. No one likes getting stomped on by the 40 top players who decided they wanted to all form a guild together so they'd never lose anything ever.
People taking the term "pay 2 win" literally is funny. We get it, Lost Ark doesn't need it to be maxed out to clear the content. You don't have to pay money to achieve enough to play the game. That's not the problem. The problem is the game artificially slows progress in order to push their pay system. Example: quest requires you to make 3 potions with your stronghold. However, you need to upgrade your workshop to lvl 2 to make that potion. It takes 12hrs to upgrade the workshop. That's the problem. A trivial quest takes 12hrs to complete.
Final fantasy 14 artificially makes the story last forever so people buy story skips.

Stronghold acts like a mobile game and upgrading cost resources and takes lots of real hours to wait for it. However, if you act now you can use these crystals to instantly upgrade. Out of crystals? No worries, you can buy it in our cash shop.
You can't skip all the cutscenes, mainly the ones that take the longest to get through and even if you could skip them the story is still unreasonably long for what it's telling.

It's super popular in Korean and a bajillion dollar industry there but not widely accepted everywhere else. BDO is still alive and working well. Tons of people play it, certainly enough to keep the game afloat. It's regularly updated. It makes a bunch of money. Is it WoW or FFXIV? No. But like I said, you don't need to be the best MMO to be a successful one. I dunno why the MMO playerbase holds everything to XIV and WoW standards

@4:12 Just for the people that don't understand why some people DONT think Lost Ark is Pay to Win, it is because it's games like Corssfire why the term "Pay to Win" even exists.
Way before Lost Ark or even Warframe was a thing, games like Crossfire, Combat Arms, and even the early days of World of Tanks gave players the ability to purchase premium items that gave players a power advantage in a PVP game. Key word there is PVP. It's an entirely more dangerous thing than someone rushing progression with real money.
You could buy golden ammo in World of tanks to straight up have bonus damage against players and games like Combat Arms/Crossfire had premium shops where the best gear and weapons in the game could only be obtained with real money. THAT is the definition of LITERALLY paying to win. And it's these games that made the video game community create the term P2W back in the day.
The issue is that games like Lost ark and Warframe are different. You are technically paying to progress (which obviously comes with its own issues, there's no denying that) but someone paying for items in Lost Ark is not causing harm to someone else's experience. But in Crossfire, you sure as hell are hurting everyone else by decking yourself out in exclusive OP gear that free players have to just deal with.
These games have always been called Pay to Win and still will always be. But we really need to educate ourselves on the difference between a game like Lost Ark and Crossfire. Very different games when it comes to the advantages you get for paying. And when a bunch of gamers say "Lost Ark is Pay to Win," please understand why people disagree with you. Because that term already existed for games like Crossfire, and it is absolutely not as cancerous as Lost Ark.
That's why I will always continue to call Warframe and Lost Ark Pay to Progress. And if you've seen CohhCarnage's infamous "thoughts on Lost Ark" video, hopefully you understand why he calls these games Pay to Progress as well. There's a huge key difference between games like Crossfire and games like Lost Ark. And that's why people feel there needs to be 2 different definitions.

Imagine whaling and spending a college degree worth of money to do 5% or less damage endgame more than f2p chads while still getting 1shot by mechanics.
Also a note for 35:18 he's assuming you are going for the max upgrade. Pretty much nobody that is clearing those endgame raids bothers going that high. The actual time investment is much much lower to get your foot in the door and clear all the content. There is a point where it's no longer worth it to bother upgrading and instead focus on collectibles and other horizontal progression because you can already clear. In Aion terms it would be like going over the softcap on a stat with manastones and going all the way to hardcap, those extra stats become negligible. In something like FFXIV terms it would be like spending a ton of money on the crafted gear that has a few item levels over your roulette gear, buying the absolute "best" materia when a new patch drops in order to clear the first savage when you could have cleared it for a much much cheaper cost and had the same outcome.
Also in terms of the resources and alts, in Korea and other servers there were many events that gave out free lvl 50 alts essentially. So if you take your time and just play the game normally you will likely be handed alts that you can log on to just once a week for some extra resources. People focus too much on being the absolute maximum ilvl and how ridiculous it is to achieve. It's an unachievable point to reach even for 99.99% of whales.

The korean game devs have full control over all game mechanics. The publisher can do very little beside game master services. They can make suggestions to korea to change stuff but not do anything them self. Played blade and soul for a good two years and this is very similar.
So they're ok with giving all control with game mechanics over to korean devs but took a hard stance and spent as much resources as possible to claim the ability to censor panties and booba. Amazon definitely got their priorities straight.
I still don't understand, or maybe my experience with MMO's is vastly different from everyone else.
I paid for a founder's pack and I don't regret doing it. I have never bought anything from Mari's shop, still have ALL my yellow crystals, never lacked any gold and never lacked any blue crystals either for slot expansions, ship skin, skin set for virtues, a cool mount and a nice pet.
I don't give a shit if people throw money at the game to gear themselves faster and unlock new content faster than anyone else.
I'll play the game at my own pace. I'm ok with trying to beat sea of indolence 50 times before I actually succeed. I was ok in dieing against tytalos 30 times before actually killing it. I am ok with completing tomes. There's no fucking shot I'll ever even succeed in the completing the hard raids because I'm not gonna sweat myself into memorizing 30 different attacks and 4 wipe mechanics, all the while having to deal with stagger and weak point damage checks.
Just let people throw money at it, the impact they have on YOUR gameplay is minimum at best since they all raid in their elitistic guilds, with boosted discords and ranks like it's the fucking military.

What is quite bad is fact that most of these island quests are super boring. For example there is island where you teach some bird to fly... in the end you must run around island in circle like 10 times... most of "game experience" is talk with NPC (spam button G) only so he send you to next NPC (more spam of button G), eventually it will send you to next island where you repeat same g button spamming... in the end of such "quest" you come back to NPC who give you as reward some chest with material...
Right now there are people who want skip boring quests (game content) so they just pay money and buy material from cash shop. So in the end 90% of gameplay is boring af.
Ah, kMMOs... RO was my first journey in the genre around 2002ish... getting 10% exp per hour on a Vit Swordsman at level 50ish in Mjolnir 1 trying to grind out those last job levels to class change to Knight was a terror I went through at least 3 times...

Now that's a massive mood, probably the biggest reason I moved away from the official servers and mostly played on private ones. The game was amazing and grinding isn't that bad, but 1x rates were just pain.
I went AGI swordsman and did it with golems and some pots for those last levels.
I still remember the days of trying to upggrade my gear to the meta of +7, farming 0.01% card drops for sub stats and then just losing my mind at all the times I failed the +6 upgrade and sent back to the farm mines
Private servers with x5 or x7 were the only way to play RO.
It's doomed to decline for the simple reason that greedy ass game binds skins to a single character in a single server, and mounts to a single server roster of characters. It cannot be carried over! No account bound!
You can buy skins with gold though... And they're quite cheap.

skins are freaking cheap on the auction house the only ones that will cost more are the ones just released but that'll only last for about a week or 2 once they drop down to cheap prices

few mounts in ffxiv are account wide and most glams are character-locked. there are definitely valid criticisms to be made against lost ark but i don’t think this is one of them.
The games not bad overall. I don't get why everyone wants to be able to finish content in a week. Who cares if it takes a year to i max stats and all that crap? I mean gives you more play time in the game instead of hitting and beatting everything in a week and then spending 6 months looking for a new game to rush and "win".. Those numbers are never acceptable. That’s specifically for that gear that if the game updates healthily, will be replaced with next content patch which you’ll then have to start all over. Fundamental misunderstanding that you're supposed to 'cap' in this game. The games content ends WAY before you reach +25 on anything. It essentially exists just so people still have something to play for after they've beaten everything. Calculating the resources required for +25 is very silly.

Of course it is pay to win, but it is really buy to win faster. If you want to sink at least a year of your life into tryharding you can do all of it without paying anything, but they are betting you are going to get sick of that 6 months or so and cave. Most F2P games have that model tbh.
The question is can you still have fun playing the game, knowing that you are probably never going to achieve true BIS or can you only have fun if you are BIS and you don't want to pay for it or grind it out. For me, right now, the game is fun. If I get bored because I haven't got good enough gear to progress further and I don't want to put the time effort in I will simply stop playing and enjoy the memories. From what I have heard, gear is normalized in PVP (3v3), so P2W doesn't factor in there and probably where I would focus on for as long as it keeps my interest.
Once you realize 90% of gameplay is spamming button G or failing your upgrades you will change your mind. Arena is another story and its more like seperated mode from game.
@Xenosys Vex Naw Tera was +12, Alkahest was for enchanting along with another piece of gear that went into the same slot, master engimatic scrolls were for rerolling and masterworking the gear (non-masterwork gear can only go to +9) and spellbind was for locking the stats. Later on in the game's life some gear could be awakened and it would go to +15 but it was really cringe.

Learn that there are multiple ways of showing dates. dd/mm/yy is more common in countries using British English. Americans on the other hand use mm/dd/yy. Anyway Lost Ark will always be one of the TOP MMOrpgs out there regardless of the P2W aspects of the game simply because the mechanics and end game is much more polished than a lot of the other MMOs out there. To say that it will fail when it has already one of the best launches in the west is entirely copium and no I don't play the game but have played the game in Korea and no I am not a supporter of it but just simply saying that it will fail because of P2W elements is lame. No matter how long progression takes there still is progression on a daily basis and tons of game activities to do rather than just staying in town and waiting for raids and do dailies like in other MMOs. Look at amazon's other mmo and see how well that did with its non p2w factors.

kmmo's can be super fucking good gameplay wise but all this p2w shit will never work in the long run in the west, I too used to play Blade&Souls for a long time and was so sick of it at some point. You can't tell me that it's a good thing that you need to upgrade your base weapon to even continue the msq and the upgrade you need drops in the first real dungeon...a dungeon that I had to run atleast 20 times for the weapon to drop.

As for PvP having balanced gears, as commendable as that may be, it ultimately made gaming experience for several classes shittier, as equalizing the pvp experience gives advantage to some classes over others, mainly support classes. Trying PvPing with Paladin/Bard. Good luck with that.

Personally I'm loving the game but acknowledge all the issues. People who say the game is not ptw are under heavy copium. Which will become even harder copium due to the game actually having extremely generous catch up mechanics when new content comes out. People who try harder since launch without spending money can already be at or close to T3 due to how much Amazon is expediting people to endgame. Seen arguments that it's not ptw because of how much gold you make at endgame but that still doesn't matter because the very fact you can still buy gold with real money. The thing with this game is though, the content, world, and gameplay is a cut above the rest imo. There is such an amazing foundation here that many critics seem more petty than it being actually bad. I've played most of the Korean MMOs and you could immediately tell they had no future outside of whales. This one though does everything right and more. I think if we can get the changes we want on the western servers that would be great but I see as highly unlikely. Even with their proven track record of changing ptw systems when the community wants them changed. I get that same feeling from these devs that I get from the FF devs, just in a vastly different market. (Gotten a lot of shit for this take but for everything I've seen these are extremely passionate devs that are just trapped with the KMMO model) With vastly different pressures. If the changes happen then the game definitely has a large future, I think it'll still be a success without massive changes though

I mean, for me P2W is simply applied when is against other players, pvp... Because you PAY to be BETTER than others on the game and have an advantage. If its not pvp, we dont call it P2W just because you buy gear, pve is against the AI, is coop... for a lot of ppl that is P2F Pay to fast or Pay to accelerate, accelerate the process as a lot of players called on Warframe. If not, you just keep playing till you get the gear or the upgrades.
So I can assume that when I see others saying that this is p2w is because they think like you, but for me the meaning of P2W was always tied to pvp, because when ppl complained or rage about P2W mechanics was always a complain related to other players killing them. I never heard a complain about pve being p2w because the boss bought gear on the shop to beat your ass, right¿?¿?

To be fair, the video is very very misleading. Under 200 people in KR have full +25 gear, because it's absurd. You can clear all content available in the game with +15 on your gear, which requires $0 spent, just gotta run content and hit the upgrade button. That's not to say this game doesn't have pay2progress/win, it does, but you don't NEED to be +25 in order to do anything, it's just there for whales to flex their wallet and still be trash at the game.

Amazon intentionally allowed nerfs of gold generation, honing material generation as well as honing success rate. Part of these came with the game client from Korea, but Korea approached things differently. When they nerfed gold generation, they introduced extra ways of obtaining honing mats and increased honing rates, from lowest 10% that we have now in NA/EU between item level 1365 to 1370 to 30%, and from lowest 15 that NA/EU has now to 35% in KR between 1350 to 1365. We got all the nerfs + missing content in T3 without the compensation KR received when the nerfs were made.
In addition, various content that in RU/KR/JP is available between gear score 1325 to 1355 has been moved to gear score 1340 and 1370. That is why we have this content void between 1340 to 1370. This was made to incentivize spending.

Don't listen to the russian ape, zeghart and other haters and mmo tribalists. Lost ark is not p2w. As a matter of fact, in korea there are f2p players in top500 players. One of the top korean f2p streamers has stated that whales constantly get kicked out of the parties in harder raids, cuz money can't buy skill in this game, and pvp has equalized gear. So there is basically nothing to win. Our version also got a massive improvements over russian and korean server, further invalidating what the russian ape said. And also, his video was debunked by korean players when it comes to damage difference, by using a damage formula that this russian guy apparently doesn't even know.
There are already 1350+ ilvl f2p players on our version too, so it defeats any argument russian ape made.

Yea people always mention the cap on the gear but they forget you can straight up buy consumables and if you spend enough moneez you can just keep using the best and highest grade shit to make things easier for you without a care in the world, no need to try and spend time farming for them with all the restrictions and bullshit they put on farming and crafting.

i mean in the video you say "lol people who actually get the MAXIUM item level are actually trash" and next minute blame the game because it takes unrealistic amount of time to be litterally the MAXIUM possible item level in the game, i feel like a better representation of a comparison would be to see the time it takes to go to +15 +20 level rather than a +25, so for a fair reprensentation the actuall time would be actually between 7 to 10 times faster than what is in the video to actually be considered a "high level"
Also the end game content isn't balanced around +25 gear. it's balanced around +15-20 gear so this video is pretty misleading.
He wasn't saying people who get MAXIMUM ilvl are trash. He's saying people who say they NEED max ilvl are trash. There's a difference, a HUGE one at that.
@@sunbark4927 Just because it isn't balanced around +25 doesn't mean people wouldn't want to go for it. A LOT of people get enjoyment out of maxing out their characters, they enjoy the progress in MMOs. It is literally impossible to do that as a F2P player in Lost Ark. Physically impossible. There aren't enough hours in the day.

the truth is if you can accese to final content in one day, that does not mean you can finish the content in one day.
you only can buy the upgrade materials not gear it self, you should farm your gears like couple of months and upgrade them.
even if you have full sets of gear, you still know nothing.
which means you have to do nonestop 24hrs real fckin hard try if you want clear in one day for each bosses. which is imposible.

Must agree on the language localisation. Read all quests and there are so many spelling errors, bad translation and some times even parts of a sentence missing. Not quite at par with the rest of the production value. Just my 2 cents 🙂

TLDR; Korean MMOs are great free singleplayer/coop games. As MMOs, they suck your wallet and/or soul.
Korean MMOs are awesome if you treat them as singleplayer games: Blade and Soul, Vindictus and Lost Ark all have terrible monetization but I think their gameplays blow WoW, PoE and FFXIV out of the bloody water. Heck, Vindictus did soulslike combat around the same time as FromSoft and they made it way more fun. So, what you do is either go in solo or group up with your pal(s) to go through the content at your own pace completely free (or give a few bucks, your call), then uninstall it. Or do it again with an alt, whatever.

The rest of the world orders it like this so that you have the shorter timespans (days) first, and the longer timespans (months, then years) afterwards.
Effectively, the date is written in order of how likely you are to already possess the information.
