      @jabykoay you’re right. But you also have to recognize the fact that the competition in India is far more with lesser opportunities. The number of unicorns in India is an example of how the environment and opportunities part is evolving in recent years thankfully.

    India doesn't allow dual citizenship, which is one of the main reasons people from India tend to give up their Indian passport when it is almost certain that they are going to spend their life elsewhere. Most people take an OCI (overseas Citizen of India) card after this switch which allows indefinite stay and right to work in India, but it is not true citizenship

      The same apply to China and many countrys,They do not accept dual citizenship.European countrys mainly accept dual citizenship.

    My respect has increased for Jaby so much after this. Most of the times, when these CEO announcements are made, people look over to our culture and point at our hardships as the reason we rose to the top. But, they ignore the fact these are the people who rose through the ranks by not just working hard (they still are working their asses off) but they are very passionate about their ambitions and have the innate desire to do something more than most. And you also can't make people innovative by just shoving textbooks in their faces. People forget these CEOs are also very talented engineers.

      Yes, but its also a game of return on investment. Investing in 1 lakh software engineers in India yield 1 CEO in USA. e.g. Because every Gujrati attempts business, some rise to the top. Because every Bengali attemps P Hd, somewin Nobel. Its just return on investment.

      However, his (Microsoft CEO) English needs a lot to be desired to be qualified for being the CEO of Microsoft. Remember, the vast majority of Indians speak bad English; and their accents are so bad to make you puke. I take you are living in the States, so am I. I am a Business Marketing and BBA graduate. I come from Bangladesh. Those of us who have been in the USA for many years discovered it way before. If you spare a little time to delve into the fact lying behind why some of those Indian individuals have made howling success of their careers in the USA, for sure, it would surprise you. First up, you got to understand the political clout of Israel and American Jewish communities that they have been carrying out in America for many years.
      All muslim world has become the common enemy of Israel and India. From the time Israel made a pact with India, Israel has been helping India in every way they can in order to win over the Muslim world. It is all about the Jewish political and economic clout.

    Being an IT student and hearing a lot from our seniors it's a fact that a software engineer is likely to have better quality of life and job and they also save more money... Whether it's in US or in India, wherever someone lives, the expenditures will be different but the amount a person saves in a month is more in US in most cases.

      In US and Southern america most of them doesn't know what savings are exactly. Even when you start your career you will spend much than require. It happens. But that will reduce gradually. Being a 6 yrs experience in IT I start to save by 3rd or 4 yrs. And now I heavily invest in future savings. I know what I will get in return after 10-15 yrs. So whether you earn here or wherever, expenses depend on your choice and will.

    The thing about people studying in US and staying there for lifetime is because in India most of the big businesses is family run where as in US u can go up the ranks and become CEO without being anyone’s son or daughter

    We aren't smarter people,we are just more number of smart people.....We are 1.4 billion....Even if 1 percent of population is smart,that's 14 million...And even if 1 percent leaves tphe country,we are 140 thousand.....And even if 0.1 percent becomes CEOs or any other high posts,we are 140 Indians.....We are just increasing probability by just sending more..thats why individually should be considered...I totally agree with you Jaby..

    Here in India the leaders at the time of Independence and one who formed constitution just wants , name , fame , riches and they jsut enjoyed it , in India there is a concept of Reservation for SC etc which affects the most Talented Middle Class society and lose of opportunities thts why not only US , every developed country has huge amount of Indian workers in the Hierarchy , talented ones have a reason to leave

    As a student I would say that when I talk to my friends who want to settle in foreign countries there reason are that India is so populated there is so much competition that u can't be on top because there are ppl who r far better than u , then the culture of seeing women as a burden and if u want to live life with freedom its really difficult and alot of problems with how ppl think here,better living conditions are always a plus point this all been said we all love the Indian culture and traditions but the expectations and no control of ur life is a Problem plus the safety ,salary ,better living conditions etc add up ( Just. A opinion )

    Jaby is absolutely right it's just not being Indian that puts some of us in the top leading positions. 50% our education standards
    30% our parents/ culture.
    20% self determination.

      The fact that 80% is extrinsic motivation is enough for asians coming to the top. whereas in the west, 90% is self determination, here, some end up choosing the best career whilst some determine to work the most basic, or useless jobs, giving space for immigrants to "steal" their job

    They are persistent too, they have given years to these companies. Indians are committed to the jobs. Most of the Indian CEOs have given 10+ years and that is why they are there. Luck works in one place not everywhere. Even in NASA there are very less percentage of Indians but are at very high position. So yes culture and upbringing plays a role. Most importantly the adaptable nature of Indians due to diversity in India which mostly other countries lack. India receives $87 billion as remittance which is highest in the world.

    I have to agree with Jaby here. They were lucky at some point. So many people here in India are smart, going to Stanford or affording a U.S. college fees is not easy and not everybody can do that. Even Elon Musk had a good financial background. So yeah they are privileged kids who worked hard. They worked their asses off, but a lot of other people are working their asses off too.... Somewhere yeah they were lucky. I agree with Jaby.

      I wouldn’t say they were privileged… because most of them got into US colleges with SCHOLARSHIPS. But yes I will say they were at the right place at the right time.. wouldn’t call it lucky per say cuz it takes away from their brilliance and efforts. But yes , they were at the right place at the right time.

Thousands amongst them does smart work too. At some point it's not about the hard work, or smart work. It's about being at the right place and trust me it's little to do with destiny as much it has to do with money.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that till the time you will collect enough money to establish a company like spacex, you would have used your whole life. Elon Musk had a seed funding to start with, the inheritance money. He is just an e.g. and there are many other people.

      @@phoenixsov9176 all of us are humans. No matter how much a person studies or does hard work, he is not a super man. The differentiating factor is our lives sometimes. And people don't wanna accept this because that makes them feel helpless, instead they put it on hard work because somewhere in their mind they are telling themselves, "had i done the hard work, I'd achieved it". It's a human way to make the thing feel like achievable, so that at least the feeling of helplessness is gone that my live is not like theirs. But it's the truth.

    A BBC report recently covered this where they said that often time Indian CEOs are appointed when company culture is being questioned. This usually is the case cuz they, majority of the cases have higher EQ than their local counterparts.

    Resiliency here means that they stick to plan of not giving up until they achieve their goals. They didn't become CEOs overnight. They gave a lot of their time to their companies while others might be switched to other companies. Second thing they adapt to others' culture effectively while others like Japanese or Chinese do not(atleast that's what I have learned)

According to 'Time Magazine's report the largest part of the internet scammers of the world resides in India that swindles Americans out of hundreds of millions of dollars every year. Why Germans, Japanese, British, Chinese, Russians, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegians, the French or Dutch don't become CEOs of American companies like Indians; so, if your Indians were hardworking better qualified than them why you are so dirt poor and dirty. Why Indians early in the morning go out in groups to any open field to take a dump out in the open for want of sanitary facilities.

    the thing is that dollar is more valued than rupee if people from there send even 1000 dollar from US to india it is approximately 72000 rs which is much greater than the salary drawn by the top 3 percent of the country. They are also put on a pedestal by their family as they buy properties and all back home , even though they are just working as fast food worker or receptionist. which they would most likely never if they stay in India

    - It all comes down to 1 dollar = 70 rupees.
    - No startup culture in universities.
    - Obviously earning 100-150K per year is much respected rather than working in India for the same job and company at 20K per year. This helps us to buy a house and property and stabilize life much faster.
    - Lot of competition to grow in India, in USA, Indians have many natural advantages.
    - Government, Parents, Teachers, Students, Society in general is "OK" for the person to leave India rather than do something for the country. Rather it is more respected upon. After you graduate and find a job in Tech, people ask only one question, when are you going to USA?

      RBI & Indian Gov. maintain this gap in b/w rupee & dollar intentionally for a reason. When Indian rupee is low compared to US dollar then Our Exported Products prices will stay low in Global market for foreign buyers in their market (after all the taxes over it) compared to other countries exported stuff & this will increase demand of our products + give better Competition to other similar products of their own country or those exported from other country.

    India definitely has talent. The culture and how they grew up does have an effect on person’s future. While India doesn’t offer those many opportunities which US provide, when some of the most talented and smartest people work in American companies, their efforts becomes so visible by their great contribution to company’s growth and that’s why they rise to top levels. Well you can be lucky to get an opportunity but if you don’t have talent, you can’t sustain it..Attitude and hard work are not substitutes to luck..

    My own salary with 4 years of industry experience is around 67000$..
    My peers with 5-6 yrs of experience are earning higher than 90000$...

    There are two things I wish to share:
    1) Acceptance rate of IITs isnot 1%, but even less. More than a million students sit every year in engg entrance exams, about 200k qualify for the second stage. Out of them, only 10k make it to IITs. That's 0.1%
    2) I myself am an IITK graduate and worked in the US for two years but returned home. Most of us work there for two reasons- one is the lack of good opportunities here. After graduating from a top engineering institute and with the skills you get, you don't want to work in a bank preparing lists. Second reason is reservation. We don't want our kids to suffer the pain and demotivation of reservation if we can help avoid it.

      Hey Pratap I completely agree with your points ..... But I also want to share something that I saw in another video .... That in India many of the existing business are family business (nepotism type) so new engineers are only granted some type of jobs .... But they can't be the CEO of that existing company .... So I think that is why people move to the US or any other foreign country coz they get an better opportunity to be the part of biggest businesses in the world ..... And that at some point they could become the CEO of that big business ..... It's just my thoughts .... I am in 11th standard and am preparing for IIT JEE exam

    I live in Germany, I can tell you I have seen smart Indians and Chinese. Having worked with them and being good friends I understood this better. The objective of most Indians abroad is to make some money for few years before going back or settle abroad because of better opportunities abroad. Either way after graduation Indians tend to work abroad for atleast few years. But Chinese most often prefer to go back because they have more or less same pay as west, and infact more opportunities and almost same quality of life in China as in Germany or UK they say. So that's the main reason. And most Chinese come abroad for experience and in the end of the day they prefer to go back. At least most Chinese I have met share similar opinion except very few!

    Specifically for Jaby and Achara:
    You might find this information a little insightful.
    In India, the youth population is way more than any other country which decreases the chance at getting high paid jobs.
    Another factor is reservations. So you might have heard that India has a lot of different castes, religions, tribes and communities and the Govt provides for a reservation for them in all the top colleges of the country. So, basically 20-25% of the population have control over approx 45-50% seats in all the top engineering, medical, business, law and other universities which makes the competition for the General Category(the majority 75-80% students) extreme. Despite scoring very high in generalized exams, the General Category students don't get admission in the top schools a lot of times and hence they look for better opportunities abroad(you can check the statistics if you want).
    Now, if you take a loan of $ 100,000 to get a MBA in the USA, you're not going to come back to India and earn $ 30,000/per year so they end up staying in the states and find a job that pays in the range of 150,000 - 300,000.

    Mckinsey, if I remember correctly, made an analysis of companies which were successful in making mergers & acquisitions work by country of origin of the company making the acquisition. They found that Chinese & Indian companies were more successful than, say, Japanese companies. They concluded that one of the reasons were that the people from India & China grew up with people from diverse cultural backgrounds & hence learned to be flexible. People from more homogenous societies like Japanese find it more difficult to manage the transition. Thus, culture does play a part. BTW, the US is also transitioning to a more diverse society & that should help the US of A to continue maintaining its leadership position economically. Let the US be a really true 'melting pot' of people unlike in the past when it meant only people of the occident predominantly.

    Basically there's a reservation system in place for the so called "lower caste" who get birth based reservations in all government based institutions based on their birth. So so called "upper caste" candidates miss out on a lot of opportunities, and the most deserving ones find it way better in the US where their merit is rewarded. Take the IITs for instance. There, marks required to clear the entrence examination are very different for the so called "lower caste" compared to the so called "upper caste". In one of the years, the minimum marks required to clear the exam for a so called "upper caste" was 113 while the same year a "lower caste" candidate would have had to secure at least 45 marks in the same examination to clear it. That's the level of difference. Such reservations are also applicable in a lot of jobs and government services. So a lot of the so called "upper caste" candidates just end up leaving the country seeking better pastures. This is why you will find that a large percentage of migrants form India come from so called "Upper caste". The effort to reward ratio is just not worth in India and similar levels of efforts give a lot more outcome in the USA. So most of those who can will leave.
    So essentially if you look at these so called "upper caste" candidates, they are probably from the top 10% of the 1% that gets into IIT. So they aren't just the top 1 percent in terms of competence, they're more like the top 0.1% or maybe even 0.01% which is why they're extremely high focus and resilient people.

    Wrong assessment. China funds it's students to study abroad and at the end of their education they as per an agreement have to come back to China. Indian parents spend 75% of their earnings on the education of their children who are free to settle any where. Plus your comment on English and adaptability of Indians is correct. Additional point is that India has a vast pool of talent passing out of universities every year, hence it is good that some settle abroad which helps them and the nation . They not only send money home but also help Indians get jobs abroad. It is a win win situation for Indians and hardly a brain drain.

    My daughter is 12 and she says she wants to be in US for her graduation. Infact most of her classmates want to.
    I hope these American universities set up a campus in India.

      In India an IIT passout will get much higher value compared to any part in the world. America didn't rise to become a 20 trillion economy overnight. Startups and business mindset, incentives shaped the country and obviously hardwork.
      India has billions of people if some of them become Ceos outside that doesn't matter. Infact take it positively, we have people in highest positions in the most powerful country on the planet, they are investing in India... creating job opportunities in India. Lobbying and stuffs if you are interested in politics...

    @Jaby - it's not about the culture but the "process".
    The process, ethics and values followed by these talented individuals were so powerful and efficient that helped them to climb the great heights which very very few people can achieve. Otherwise only talent is not sufficient.
    Indian culture and the environment play a role to guide some talented personalities to adapt such a process in life :)

    Adding to the Archana's "developing Country" theory,I can say that might be a factor because most People in Western countries generally have high opportunities than the East Developing nations and that gives them this cushion that even if they do bad they have their social net in means of various opportunities and availability of basic needs and infra... Whereas in India people have to work hard than westerners just to find a footing for their life.
    That being said, See how the CEOs are migrated first generation People around their 40s/50s, that's because back in '90s or '00s India had none to less Opportunities for talented people like the CEOs shown in the video and back then the whole country's Economy was dependent on Agriculture (50% of Indian Economy was Agriculture) which is a labour intensive work than talent intensive, that changed after the '91 economic Liberalization and that made massive changes in Economy and India started to catchup on the Opportunities front and that's why more Younger people of today prefer to stay in India than going abroad...

    People can say whatever they like but the reality is that majority of us like me wrote ‘reservation’ system as a barrier to our growth in the visa application form. I felt like my talent is respected when I stepped in the US.

      @@gibson587 Yes, he was wrong, among other things. Helping poor and specific community over an ambiguous, unverifiable system that too based on assumptions, doesn't need to give free job ignoring skill and merit.
      SC/ST are still poor and they will always will stay poor, because they have zero incentive to grow.
      Funny if you reverse it, it will automatically be discrimination. I wonder who is a casteist, the upper caste who fight fairly, or LC who abuse and thrive based on caste based policies.

    Food for thought: when you guys mentioned that the salary is relative because the expense of living in India might be lower when compared to US, isn’t salary based on talent and skills that one has? So with the same degree and job role as somebody else in US, why should I be paid lower when I would have the same skill set? So the same skill value different depending on where you are?? Just some of my pondering thoughts!

      Precisely the reason why some of my friends have quit their jobs here in India and have started freelancing coz in freelance business (except when you get paid low for first few weeks), you get a much decent pay when you have international clients. This principle won't apply when one is doing a 9-6 job here in India despite the parent company being American, Australian etc

      I hope it gets worse. 1 dollar = 200 rupees!
      A stable rate is the best. Not falling not climbing.
      Indian minds won't be able to afford US education and hence it will prevent Indians from going abroad.
      Our exports will increase as well.
      All this keeping in mind that all transfer of technology is done in multiple currencies to India.
      Forex reserves remain up and currency volitility remains down.

When Indian rupee is low compared to US dollar then Our Exported Products prices will stay low in Global market for foreign buyers compared to other countries exported stuff & this will give better Competition to other similar products of their own country or those exported from other country.

    Another point is important to note that being CEO of top company may not be a success yardstick for many people. So it doesn’t matter if you’re a CEO or not. In US, success is termed as being rich or having top most position in a company. However success is very much relative to person’s individual choice. If one is satisfied in his or her own way in whatever he or she is doing, they’re successful. So called successful people may be sad from inside, who knows? If you’re extremely rich and running after fame and unending desires, you can’t be really successful!! Success means fulfillment without running behind materialistic things..

    India has Reservation which causes brain drain.
    Reservation allows already limited seats in Engineering colleges like one mentioned in your video like the IITs to be filled up with non-meritorious "lower caste" people which is a kind of affirmative action equivalent. This causes the already limited seats in India to further reduce prompting the meritorious kids who didn't get IIT to seek out masters in engineering/science from US under a scholarship to make their profile and resume look better so as to get better opportunities further ahead.
    Watch WIONs episode from paliki sharma upadhyay on Indian's brain drain to understand this problem well.
    PS: "Lower caste" normies incoming to comment reply section please note, I haven't disrespected you, I just mentioned the side effects of reservation. I personally feel caste system should be in the dustbin and there should be no things like "lower caste" hence no things like "reservation".

    The Chinese are beginning to return back to their country for two main reasons:
    (1) Like Jaby said, the concept of China and the US and the cultural upbringing of Chinese and Americans are diametrically opposite. Different languages, different culture, VERY different governments. This will obviously lead them to being much more comfortable in their own countries.
    (2) China has had its economic boom in the last 15 years. There are jobs, wonderful opportunities, good living conditions, etc. etc. Albeit there might be stuff like surveillance, but the people have already experienced that their entire life. India, is unfortunately only just gaining momentum in the last couple of years (At good rates!) but there still aren't as many opportunities as in China, which dampers the enthusiasm for the Indians to return from the US. This combined with the fact that Indians are quicker to adapt because of their similar upbringing as Americans on stuff like TH-cam, memes, movies, games, basically any other form of media which Chinese are generally not exposed to results in them returning at much higher rates than Indians.

      Whatever you have mentioned is correct, just one major point is missing that is 'TALENT' and the one who have it there are no boundaries for an individual..Indians are spread all over top is due to the same reason.

    Indians work really really hard sometimes like 12 to 14 hours a day... also the competition for going to good schools and universities is very very high plus jobs have very high competition.. unlike the west. So, you are probably the best talent if you go to good schools and get nice jobs that's how all these CEOs got into what they are doing now.
