Russia always helped India even when India was nothing. During Pak vs Ind entire western countries backed Pak and Ind was left alone. Only one country came to our rescue which made west turn back and we won against Pak, can you guess the name of that country. Yes non other than Russia. India and Russia share a deep bond which goes beyond profit making. Even in the case of various issues, like when the asia's gets affected by the war the entire west just ignores it like nothings happening, be it somalia, be it afghanistan, be it syria, israel, etc. But when it came to Ukraine they are just throwing away money to fund the war against Russia. This is the western hypocrisy that we see here in India. That's the reason despite of many downs still I thing Trump's is a good choice for American president for global peace, can't say anything about American interest cause I'm not aware of that much.

This video does not explain why India still continues to buy from Russia, it paints a picture as if just because it is cheap India is buying from Russia, it does not talk about how much is the domestic demand what options India has, what challenges India has if it buys from middle east...I think our FM explains it properly in his interview, it is not that India doesn't care..it is more like India doesn't have the luxury to follow the trend at the cost of making its citizens life difficult.

22:10 That's the thing. Russia is ruthless but every time India had a war or crisis, Russia has been of help more than US or EU. They ask India to take a stance (ruining it's relation with Russia) but they never took any stances or cared about these issues in this side of the world.
Funnily enough, you mentioned Venezuela but the US is the reason why Iranian oil and Venezuelan oil can't enter the market. Even if India forgoes it's relation with Russia, the per capita income of the people isn't enough to afford crazy oil prices and there just aren't other options available.

India's experience with Russia and the erstwhile USSR has been very different than that of East European countries. The relationship is time tested.
During the 1971 India Pakistan war, Russian submarine fleet defended India from the US and UK naval fleets who were coming to attack India.
Secondly, 85% of Indian defence purchases are from Russia. India is the biggest defence importer in the world.
Russia needs India more than India needs Russia, particularly after the Ukraine war.

The reason you may find India apathetic is because of India’s need to serve its citizen. But not just that, we have many issues with Pakistan. But no western country comes to aid. But they expect us to back them when they have concerns. As Jaishankar said, Europe should stop thinking that European problems are world’s problems but world’s problems are not theirs. India has huge military dependence on Russia because US provided military support to Pakistan instead of India during Cold War. That dependence is not because India chose Russia.

23:00 That is actually a valid point that India had considered as well. From the cursory knowledge I have, those oil offers were not agreed upon from the get go and it was initially rejected. They had to go through a lot of negotiations to agree upon India's terms and conditions about it. Think School did gloss over most of that since that topic by itself is also a very interesting one about SWIFT systems and other considerations about transactions.
TLDR, India is sort of doing "safe trading" where if needed it can benefit from both sides since it is both a diplomatic "friend" of Russia all the while being a part of the G20 and the Quad, between which it has to delicately maintain the balance.

So if that time does come where Putin turns his back, we can always fall back on our regular suppliers.

India is never about "It's either my way or the highway" concept.. We will not be "locked in", because even though India has increased its oil imports from Russia, our major source is still Iraq and Saudi Arabia. If at all in the future Russia turns its back on India (I highly doubt that, because of the sort of relationship we have) India will simply fall back on its regular sources.
Russia helped India when India had nothing much to offer back. They stood by us time and again on various issues. Russia has used its veto power in favor of India when the other veto countries sided with Pakistan and now it is India's turn to help Russia.
India does not burn its bridges when it comes to diplomacy. Russia is trustworthy compared to the backstabbing western countries. We have many instances throughout history and in geopolitics. A lesson well learned.

Also dollar dominance will decrease further if we started dealing in local industries for bypassing US sanctions. So it will be in the interest of US to not force India to that level where we can openly support Russia.

The only thing that might upset the cozy economic relationship between the Russians, Indians, Chinese, Malays and Indonesians will be US arm twisting. If the US employs sanctions against India China, Malaysia and Indonesia, this could possibly deter them . But given the enormous leverage India and China have economically in their own right, and with Russian expertise in defeating the effects of US sanctions, India and China especially have been making huge changes to head off the US sanctions move. They are/have been aware they'd be next in line if they don't play nice, but given the disastrous economic and financial blowback the US/EU are experiencing from sanctions, the East is only too aware of not following the West's lead on this issue. This is not in the interests of the East and global southern economies to follow the US because it doesn't work and the US/EU know it. Also , why would the RF jeopardize its biggest, friendliest and most profitable customers by putting in hoops and blocks in their trade paths. Surely that'd be counterproductive and even self destructive for Russia. It appears that so long as everyone in the pool was playing by the same agreed rules the system worked. But the west arbitrarily changing the game has resulted in these guys setting up rival systems and shutting down the problem. They're now in one half of the pool playing a new game among themselves and largely ignoring the west. If someone is not even acknowledging you, what can you do, short of getting physical/kinetic, to change the status quo. It looks like the kids with the deepest pockets and the most toys might win this one. We'll just have to watch, listen and learn.

Jaby asked valid question about India purchasing Russia oil and how long will it go like that, I'll explain
So what i understand from the news our government learned from Europe that never rely on one source and that's why Indian government buys all from all the sources available not only Russia. You see our oil purchase is diversified to Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Mexico, Brazil, Nigeria, Kuwait, Colombia, Egypt, Angola, Norway, Oman, Malaysia, Russia and US
This gives us advantage if someone of these listed countries decide to block the supply, still it will not hurt India because we can increase oil import from other countries to fill the gap
I hope this will help you understand how India overcome all this 💩 😊

Sure, Russia's deal with China and India might be temporary and Russia might increase its price in the future but every ally in geopolitics is strategic and temporary. India partnering up w the West isn't gonna help us any better, they're working together for their own advantage of expanding NATO eastwards to Russia's border. Imagine what the US would do if Russia had military/naval bases in Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean? (Cuban missile crisis is an example of this) If the situation demands, they'll flip sides anytime. It's an economic war, every country stands for itself.

The average man in India makes less than $300. There can be actual loss of life because rising oil prices. So unlike Western countries, India cant ignore price changes. To stop India from purchasing Russian oil, the West needs to provide an alternate. There is no other way.
