- In this video, Ben "C. B. Gitty" Baker and Glenn Watt show you the most basic principles of tuning 3-string cigar box guitars to Open G. Tuning by ear and using a digital chromatic tuner is covered. At the end of the video, Ben and Glenn do a little 12-bar blues jam to try out their newly tuned CBGs!
Be sure to check out www.CigarBoxGuitar.com for more great info on how to build and play cigar box guitars!

THANX Guys......... I'm a total noob / been "studying" the topic and THINKIN' finally comitting $$$ to it. I came here BECAUSE I am buying a little tuner (first one)
This is the FIRST time I've watched a "Gitty" video--- I HavA feelin' I'm gonna be watchin' MORE!
awesome tip that on the 7th and 5th many Thanks for that gents.
Thanks Ben and Glenn. I'm sending a link to a few people who bought my guitars for family members. Some of them play 6 strings and some have never played but want to. I think this will help a lot!
Excellent teaching.
Thank you guys.
I tune down a Half step to Open G-flat (mine is being updated into a 6 String tuned to E flat standard) because it's easier for me to sing the high notes.
As I play violin, I know the notes on cgda tuning.
In this tuning is it possible to get blues sound and good rock in cigar box?
Do you recommend 4 strings or 3 strings for blues and rock styles?
Do you recommend other tunings?
I do not play guitar, it would be my beginning on guitar
Since a violin also has 4 strings, you could tune a4 string to match what you're used to playing.
I just received the same tuner you are using in this video, ordered from you. My tuner is at 440 C. My first cord is green at G but the middle cord green at C# and my third cord is green at F#, not GDG. What am I doing wrong?
What gauge strings did you use for each strings?
Thank you for the great question.

Even after a few years of building cigar box guitars it’s always good to take a refresher course in the basics .
Is the top and bottom G same frequency?
I don't know if I messed up the strings when I put them on, but both the D & the High G sound way too high. When I try to de-tune or lower them to match yours they twang and move like crazy. And when I went to re-tune the High G again the damn string broke. Very frustrating for a noob! Now I have to get another string to replace it. Hopefully I have an extra set of guitar strings laying around! Which string from the set should I use?
