Even though I've been playing for years, this is one of the best videos on playing a string instrument that I've seen on You Tube, Thank you for posting. 🤠
This is the video I've been looking for! I am an ultra ultra beginner, I know nothing about cords, guitar. I need more videos like this and where to put your fingers.
I learned two things. First, I learned that I should have watched this 50 years ago. Secondly I discovered by looking at the hat that you work the night shift downtown.
Thanks for the videos of instructions. I'm turning 54 soon and always wanted a three string. Learn how to play. Just something to do some porch pickin. It's a bucket list thing. Y'all have a blessed day.
So incredibly talented... knowledgable.... i just came across you by accident... i have been playing ukulele for 4 0r 5 years.... i think i can build one of these and i will be pickin and grinnin... in no time!!! Thank you!!!
This video is sooooooo good. I have THE most beautiful cigar box guitar but never really tried it as always too busy practicing 6 string guitar and piano. Now the pubs have opened up outside again, I learned to play one song. Not sure if anyone listened to my song but they loved the instrument.
As an uber-beginner, this single video has already taught me so much ! I really enjoyed building my first CBG, then thought "OK. What now ?" This has answered that question, and encouraged me to continue discovering this wonderful instrument !
I'm a shop teacher and I'm building this instrument with my Yr9 class....With a bit of help from these vids I don't think I've seen a class be more invested in getting a project together. Big thank you for some amazing content...Future cigar box guitar enthusiasts one class at a time!!! Big thanks....
"hot rod" is the perfect definition for this instrument, I gave up on playing cuz I had an injury and broke 4 fingers but you inspired me, I want to play again and I wanna building my own ! bless you bless you 🤗🤗🤗
In 20 minutes, you got me further than any other youtube tutorial has in the few years I've had my CBG. I've been very frustrated about my lack of progress and my inability to get a good clean sound out of my instrument. And as a result, I haven't played it very much. After you mentioned changing the tuning, I did that and it made a WORLD of difference. Suddenly, everything on the left hand was exponentially easier and I was able to just hear chords to several songs just by messing about. So cool! Thank you so much for making such a clear and helpful video. You've brought me and my CBG back together.
Del, Thanks for you sharing. Just recently retired and going to try my hand at making and playing CBG's. Fascinating hobby. Never made one, never played one. Also, love it that you are not afraid to share your faith...
Picked up a guitar some time ago, and that left me all sweaty bending my fingers every which way over those six strings. Then I found out about cbg's and immediately build one myself. It ain't perfect, but man I am having fun with that thing! Thanks for your enthusiasm and your great vids, Inspiring!
Nice geetars! I teach kids Projects Lab Woodshop and I've taught nearly 200 7 & 8 yr olds to build box guitars. It took all year but each of 24 students in a class finished a Shoobee box guitar.
Man I wanna thank you for breaking down some of the basics. Like finger placement behind the fret. I hope you continue to do this kind of series. It has helped ally and has given much encouragement.
Hey … thanks for creating this informative video. I had never heard of a cigar box guitar until a few minutes ago. As I was watching I couldn’t help but think about an instrument my wife has called a mountain dulcimer. It has 3 strings too and most of the players in her group tune it to DAD.
Thank You❤ from Finland.I just got my first CBG today and this video was totally what I was looking for.Inspiring with lots of humour..like CBG guitar playing should be..as I understood anything from this lesson😅😂
Hell yeah brother. They call me ol' Hook Eyes Moses. I bought my cigar box git-tar from a man called Salty Dog down in Melbourne, Australia, who made it himself all custom like. I love the blues and was inspired by the old grass roots Blues singers of the Great Depression and Seasick Steve, makin' themselves instruments from whatever they can find. I'm also thinking about buyin' a Didly Bo. I'll be sure to watch the rest of your vidyas so I can learn how to play this sucker.
Great video. Just bought a kit from Gitty and needed a place to start. I Subbed and saved this video for future watching. Over and over and over. Thanks for what you do.
your "you got to have fun" hits it right on the nail, for complete beginner those bit you put in 0795 etc, may seem too basic for someone like you but for me i was twanging away sounding like i was playing music, could you do some more like that but a bit slower with cord progression and simple strums, maybe put a simple turn around or riff that could be used when we have the hang of the basic part. but great stuff many thanks
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar watching that i thought, he could do a beginner, sound like you have played for years in 10 minutes, sort of video, for people who never played anything, and no music knowledge, skip the how to understand the instilment, just very basic, ok hold these 3 strings here for 3 strums, then move it here for 3 strums etc, you did it in this video, sounds like your playing music, but not eaaly, oftern done in harmonica teaching. thanks
over the past 4 decades I've tried to learn how to play guitar 3 times, each time spending a lot of time with little success and a lot of frustration. does my brain not sync both hands? anyway, this lesson was great. I've built my 1st cbg thanks to you Del and it's got some great tone unplugged. this time @ 59, I am happily at it again. Hope you turn this vid into a series!
I started watching Dell thinking I was watching someone do something I could never do. A bit like people watching dancers. But I think I might be able to do a little of this. I don’t think I have any timing, rhythm or musicality of any kind. But you never know, I might. I will provably have to leave home first tho..
There was a movie called Rattatooie about a Rat who could cook ... his main catch phrase was something he learned from a book from his inspirational mentor. “anyone can cook”. Well, same thing here.... With these instruments “ANYONE CAN PLAY!!!!!” 😜
been working on making cbg for christmas this year but got sick. am better now i'm sorta glad i had to wait because i got a lot out of your n5 videos. thanks
This is excellent. I am hoping to pick-up a 3 string guitar either as a Christmas gift or for myself after Christmas. I am a total noob (love guitar, but don't play yet) so this was perfect!
Very cool first lesson, I think I sound better already which isn’t saying much because I was just making noise before but now I’m actually using the slide correctly and it doesn’t sound bad so thank you! Can’t wait to afford an amp but I’m waiting to get a bit better before then lol
Liked and saved in a new playlist "Cigar Box Guitar". Im hoping to build a couple in the summer with my brother and having a few cigar boxes on the ground as a stomp box and snare. Looking forward to many more lessons! I appreciate you putting the time and energy into this! Thanks!
Dell, great builder videos, even greatr player vids for those of us who wanna bee players, nice rounded out vids, build plus how too play, keep it going!!!!
Hey Dale, thank you for the wealth of knowledge and great videos. I recently put together my first kit from CBGitty, I slightly modified it, screwed something's up, and made others better, and using a small Castle Hall cigar box it gave it a medieval sound in DAD. But I was wondering how to go about purchasing one of your creations. Thanks again, take care.
thank you soo much, i just started playing and found myself frustrated and defeated. then i found your youtube videos and found myself laughing and having fun. on this video i relized i was putting my finger dead center between the frets ,so i changed it to the way you explained and got that aha moment! thank you for looking back and stopping to help those of us who love our 3 strings , but havent quite got it yet.1and2and3and4 thanks for keeping it real
When you said before there are no rules I felt a relief. I decided to string my cbg with .56 .46 and .34 then tuned it to DAD and it's sounds low and crunchy. Any other low tunings would you know of? Thank you for what you do, I am so excited to create some doomy blues riffs.
Honestly just found you yesterday, TH-cam algorithms...WTH anyway great content your channel rocks it. Fun to play but, even more fun to build. I'm stuck on shovels.....take a string, a shovel and an angle grinder and have at her. Seriously though your build videos and this lesson vid is top notch. i think so … 🤨
Hello, I have a question for you, why don't you teach us some songs in open G , but with the D-G-B configuration. Thanks and God bless you.
Super teaching, info video

What guitar strings do you use out of a pack ? Tuning ?
all of them …. just be sure to keep them sequential… (next to each other) … not out of order. or else you will have intonation problems
Great lesson Del! One question, for a complete beginner what would be the best use of time to start improving? Cheers
Hi Del, I like the way your using eyelets on the headstock. How are you winding your strings? Thank you for everything you do for so many. Steve
I don’t wind my own strings. I buy them from cbgitty.com

I've got a question for you I made a antler saddle I think my action is too high and I want to add frets what should I do
sand or file the bottom of the saddle to desired height
