    That was very cool, Bill! Thank you for risking your life for our entertainment! 😂. I generally like my feet planted firmly on the ground at all times and try to avoid flying even new commercial planes of today! I can’t imagine what a rush that was! It had to be intimidating, intense, and a little scary given how loud and although very neat and fascinating, how antiquated it all looked! And yes, including the pilot! 😂

    Re: the ashtrays, wouldn't recommend usage of the front ones in the air. My first flight instructor, also an A&P aircraft mechanic, had me help him remove the interior trim on a Cessna 172 (to prepare it for its annual inspection). Directly behind the ashtrays is the fuel line from the wing to the fuel selector 😂

    This was awesome! My grandad was a pilot his entire adult life, and my old man grew up flying around in planes of this vintage as a kid during the 60s. Pretty wild to see the cheer amount of switchgear and such required to just get the thing in the air. I have a newfound respect for small aircraft pilots.

    Wonderful 👍. My father learnt to fly in a air coupe. His first was an Auster. He then bought a de Havilland chipmunk and kept it at Biggin Hill. He had others but he said the chipmunk was the most fun. My mother eventually grounded him, partly the cost, and partly because they had six children. Dennis Pritchard, ex RAF and retired accountant. Wonderful video Bill.

    I soloed at age 16 flying a Cessna 150 Aerobat. But never found the time or money to finnish the full flying course and aquire my private Pilots license. I did rent a plane from time to time and go up by myself or solo a Piper Trypacer and a Cessna 172 all the way up to my 18th birthday, but after I got hired by General motors in 1977 I lost interest in flying and moved on to fast cars, fast boats, and fast women and never looked back. Great looking plane. I also like the Taildragger version better than the nose-wheel 172s.
    That navigation instrument under the throttle lever is a "Course Deviation Indicator (CDI)". This is the instrument that makes this plane IFR capable, which is Instrument Flight Rated, as opposed to Visual Flight Rated. When you use your NAV radio to dial into the freq. of a directional radio beacon, you set a desired course direction to/from that beacon on the CDI, and the vertical line will move Left or Right to indicate your deviation from that course. What that means is, if you want to fly on a 120 degree course towards the beacon, you dial that in, and then keep a heading that makes the vertical line stay in the center of the dial. The horizontal line works the same way, but it's intended to work in conjunction with a runway beacon that guides you vertically down the proper descent path (glide-slope) to touchdown, so you can safely descend & land when weather prevents you from seeing the runway very well for most of your approach.

      That’s very interesting

    • @en0n126
      @en0n126 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeffsanders7691 Yes it is! It's old tech, as most IFR pilots go by GPS instrument and/or have an iPad in their cockpit. However, most of the US still has radio beacon coverage for redundancy. I do flight sim and am currently doing a US state capital tour only using these radio beacons to navigate to my next stop.

    The view was great, the Dali Museum, moved to where the old stadium used to be, Mirror Lake, I still have my parking pass from the inaugural Saint Petersburg Grand Prix in 2003, our main man Dan Wheldon (Lionheart) won it.

We have planes called puddle jumpers.They seat 12 and have dual props.The runway is not quite long enough for planes that size.The pilot lands and immediately throes the engines into reverse. Not gradually.Hr slams them into full reverse The engines make a horrible noise.It throws you forward in your seat and then slams you back.

    Bill, you could sell about anything! For someone that isn't into the general aviation, you do point out some very good facts as well as history of the Cessna company and the aircraft design and development. The word you were looking for in the description of the bend in the wing is dihedral, which provides stability in the roll axis on an airplane. Nonetheless, fantastic job in presentation and content, you totally outclass the professional airplane salespeople, perhaps this is new career move?
