This figure was the only transformers toy I bought in years, I remember going to a Walmart and seeing this guy, picked him up immediately and became really happy with it. It has everything I could want in a G1 Optimus.
When Prime combines with his trailer, it’s always the best Prime. Love the idea of Orion becoming Optimus. Neat little gimmick. The window pecks should have been painted for the sake of the Truck Mode hiding the Matrix. Great figure. As a side note: I do wish we’d stop the idea Optimus HAS to always look like G1. It limits a lot of cool transformations. Like having a backpack, having a fake truck face, combining with other figures or even with his trailer for a super mode.
Fans got the option to vote to get a ultra magnus out of this mold but instead Optimus Primal won and got one of the cheapest looking leader class figures ever
I love this figure too, but don't really like the idea of Optimus himself just being a super mode for Orion Pax. So I've got the GenSel- Starconvoy. Slightly different styling but still the same strong points and a silver V-fin on prime. Plus the small Convoy is basically a transforming Action-Master prime
100% agreed. I LOVE this Prime. I love that he has a Matrix cavity and a removable Matrix, I adore the fact that Orion Pax got a figure and that he can "evolve" or combine with the trailer to make his Prime form. Everything about this just oozes history and lore. I agree with the issues as well. My side stickers have begun to peel a little bit, probably because I've fiddled a lot with him, transforming him back and forth (but it's SO FUN). And the big Prime mode's feet were loose from the beginning, so I've always had to be careful posing the big guy. But yea, this is my Prime just as Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus is my Magnus - despite some QC issues, because he comes with Minimus Ambus and that's just… cool. I love me some IDW connections.
Same here, this is my favourite Optimus Prime. Strangely enough, this feels like a more faithful re-imagining of Power Master Optimus than the one we got in Titans Return. The only thing missing is the little Power Master fella (Hi-Q), but that can be easily fixed by adding on one of those little Prime Master dudes.
I really wanted this figure but never found it when I had money. I was hesitant because I didn’t like the whole “Optimus is the trailer” but now I appreciate what they were and that Optimus isn’t necessarily the trailer that’s just how they store it to make the figures combine and work together. Sad I missed. However one figure I skipped out on was the Beast Hunters Voyager Prime and I just ordered that mint sealed in box for $50 and that’s a steal. Very slowly fixing my past mistakes.
I remember when this first came out i found it on the shelf at a walmart lol. I begged my mom to get it, she hesitated because it was 50 dollars, but in the end got it for me. It sits on my top shelf to this day. One of the best optimus primes of recent for sure.
Definitely enjoy seeing this figure get the praise it really does deserve, it's hugely underrated by the fandom overall. Both Siege and Earthrise Prime still take a higher spot imo but this mold definitely is my definitive Nemesis Prime, and I still enjoy it enough that I might just track down the regular deco.
Ok. So as someone who has this chonky lad, I can confirm that while Orion Prime is funny, putting Optimus’s head on Orion makes it exponentially funnier. I personally call him Optimus Minimus

My best friend gave me this a figure as a gift and I still love it. Personally I prefer the WFC molds for Optimus now but I still think this figure is amazing and I love having an Orion Pax that actually looks like the original cartoon.
Love this figure and the Nemesis Prime repaint/head retool. That said, the alt mode is ugly with panels that don't like to connect and the feet need to be bulked up so that this guy can balance properly. Otherwise, perfection. I was keeping the boxes for both figures for years and then realized I never want to part with them because they're fantastic!
As much as I adore earthrise prime and it is my definitive g1 shelf prime, this guy may be my all time favourite. He’s not perfect, some plastic is cheap, lot of hollow limbs, but as you say, massive mp10 vibes. And I made my own head canon for why there’s visible trailer all over him, it’s like swat gear, he’s bolted on extra plating to enhance his frame and he’s off to fight an army single handed with his big effing gun. Definitely considering hunting one of these down again, loved it.
I use to own this guy and I still have the Nemesis Prime. In recent years my opinions on POTP toys have gone down, but this guy is still up there as one of the toyline's best (which isn't saying much, BUT, this guy is actually good).
I'm so torn between the different versions available. I dislike that Orion Pax robot, it's not at all what I want because I only want Optimus Prime himself. So I don't like that weird truck mode but I do want the trailer to be incorporated into the main robot, like it is here and in the leader class from Titans Return (which to me is a better Power Master version). And then we have Earthrise which is a very nice Optimus but I dislike fake parts and the trailer is also separate...so yeah, major torn.
They had this at my local Wall Mart and I caught it at 30% off and I had to snag it. It was one of the best toy purchases I have ever made. It is by far my favorite leader class Optimus.

This one of my favourite in collection too. I painted the grey areas to match better Prime. After paint he looks amazing. There are a lot of paint customizations on the web. The feet had the same problem out of the box. You just need to apply nail polish to fix that. I actually enjoyed leader Rodimus too.
This is my Masterpiece size Prime. I custom painted and stickered him up. He stands next to my Meteor and Despotron and fits perfectly. Great review as always, keep it up Man!! 🍔🤖
i had the power master remake first and liked it but i always hope for like a "super mode" with prime going into armour or in engergons case putt his big boy booties on and the power master one just all slides together cab and all one peice but then this one came out and i saw the whole gimmick of sliding pax in and i bolted to the store to grab one and sold my power master one cause it served no purpose in my collection since getting this one, i like posing him with some of his panels out on his arm like shields and putting his guns in his pax arms and having them look like shoulder mounts

I remember hen I was a kid i had this optimus prime which had a trailer and these miniature transformers, that came with it, but for the life of me never found any images of it. It is driving me nuts.
I went to a used toy store looking for a prime with a trailer because all the new prime figures don't have the trailer. They had earth rise prime for $70. It doesn't even come with roller. One of my favorite parts of my g2 prime was launching roller down the ramp of primes trailer so I thing earth rise should have roller. I saw this Prime on the top shelf for $60 and I grabbed him. It is the coolest prime I have ever seen and it was so worth the money to me. Now I need a megatron in his scale to match him.
Don't get me wrong I love me some ER Prime, But this Prime will always be my favorite Generations Prime. He's actually leader scale, he has a good matrix, and you can create the legendary moment when Orion Pax takes on the light of Cybertron and becomes Optimus Prime.
I have the nemesis prime version of this mold and I love it, it also comes with extra accessories that make him more unique he comes with a red star saber a bird that transforms into a sword and the transformers armada writs guns
I strongly disagree with you. The robot mode in my opinion sucks. There are random panels hanging off of every where, the feet are crap. The arms are hollow and the chest is kinds weird with the gaps from where Orion goes in. The headsculpt is nice, but there is also way to much grey for an optimus prime. I'm also a huge fan of earthrise, because it's actually decent scale compared to the rest of the autobots. The only flaw in earthrise is some qc if you ads unlucky and the tires on the back of the robot. But that figure isn't covered in panels and hollow areas like this one is
Totally agree. I can accept the gimmick, since it kinda makes sense story wise, but the lack of color just makes Optimus look fine only up front (as long as you don't look at those third party-ish small-ass insignia stickers). Especially at poses like this at 3:53 gray is so evident that it makes you wonder if you're playing with Megatron rather than Optimus.

I will always treat my Siege Optimus like my beloved son, but when I get this guy, if ever, I will treat this like my brother. I’m saving the husband spot for MP-01.

I got one of these in a box of a lot of random Transformers a couple of years ago. He was complete, but the panel the head is on is cracked near the hinge which leads to it being at a slight angle. Because of that, I am too afraid to mess with the head. I had no idea you can display the Orion Pax head on the full Prime body. I love this figure...and as soon as I find another one complete I will be buying it :)
I was lucky enough to get the nemesis prime version, I like him a little better than optimus not just because of the extra weapons but I absolutely love the paint on him, the dark black is awesome and the little hints of blue and red just pop.
PotP Optimus isn't just my definitive Optimus, but my favorite Transformer of all time. I've got the Star Convoy version of the mold as well, and at this point i'm dedicated to tracking down the Nemesis Prime to complete the set.
i think er prime edges this out on fidelity to the design, but the integration of orion pax brings so much to the table for this guy, he might not be perfect but it’s great to have a toy that can switch between the two
I got my POTP Optimus out of storage last week, and I had forgotten how chunky and awesome it was. My biggest issue is that it doesn't scale super-well with any of the Megatrons that I have (he looks damn fine paired against the Target exclusive Bumblebee Movie Titan Master Soundwave, however).
I replaced the core robot with Star Convoy's for a ginrai feel. He's one of my top primes. You can pretty much open the trailer for a g1 trailer base, too
Coming back to check this review out now that the reissue is ongoing. Debating whether to grab this or the Earthrise reissue, though the stickers do seem a significant detriment.
I loved the power of the prime designs (could have been better though) real shame they didn't invest more into the body articulation but that's my personal gripe.
It’s a pretty interesting figure the whole Orion to prime gimmick is nice but I’d say my favorite optimus is probably either the wfc game deluxe or Wei Jiang Black Apple Thunder Leader which is probably the single best movie optimus I’ve ever seen
I actually *wouldn't* recommend the Star Convoy Gen selects version. It's very cheap retool in bot mode and his truck mode is doesn't even try. Also way to expensive, especially in comparison to the work done for the companion figure, Super Megatron. If you want an alternative, get the Nemesis Prime version. The solid black is gorgeous on this figure.

This was the toy that got me back into buying Transformers. It really is such a fun figure.
It was for me too, I eventual shifted to CHUG scaling, but seeing potp prime in his g1 aesthetic sucked me back in

I like how this figure used the trailer as his main body so it's just like ultra magnus
I was lucky enough to get the nemesis prime version, I like him a little better than optimus not just because of the extra weapons but I absolutely love the paint on him, the dark black is awesome and the little hints of blue and red just pop.
Might get this big ol dude! I always love the look or the Orion figure too, so maybe one day I'll pick it up. 😁👍🏻
PotP Optimus isn't just my definitive Optimus, but my favorite Transformer of all time. I've got the Star Convoy version of the mold as well, and at this point i'm dedicated to tracking down the Nemesis Prime to complete the set.
i think er prime edges this out on fidelity to the design, but the integration of orion pax brings so much to the table for this guy, he might not be perfect but it’s great to have a toy that can switch between the two

This Prime could use a few minor upgrades like Gapfillers and maybe something to hide Orion's kibble a little better...but he's pretty great.
Frankly, I wish THIS had been Powermaster Optimus instead of what we got.
I got my POTP Optimus out of storage last week, and I had forgotten how chunky and awesome it was. My biggest issue is that it doesn't scale super-well with any of the Megatrons that I have (he looks damn fine paired against the Target exclusive Bumblebee Movie Titan Master Soundwave, however).

If you dont like the loose joints maybe get some floor polish to stiff them up a bit
If i ever look for a good big G1 OP, i will must likely go for this one.
If there is one thing that dissapoint me in that figure,is that it didnt reveal wheels on its leg,i like when G1 Optimus have that
The star convoy is cool but do the reverse the star thing on the front. It pops open if you look at it wrong otherwise
I replaced the core robot with Star Convoy's for a ginrai feel. He's one of my top primes. You can pretty much open the trailer for a g1 trailer base, too
Wish I could track down the upgrade kit that lets you to have both Orion and Optimus formed at the same time.
Just picked up the reissue, and I think this guy is pretty great.
I wish DNA had done a set for this guy to convert him into a Powermaster Optimus (Or at least Star Convoy into Powermaster Optimus...

Coming back to check this review out now that the reissue is ongoing. Debating whether to grab this or the Earthrise reissue, though the stickers do seem a significant detriment.
I loved the power of the prime designs (could have been better though) real shame they didn't invest more into the body articulation but that's my personal gripe.

It’s a pretty interesting figure the whole Orion to prime gimmick is nice but I’d say my favorite optimus is probably either the wfc game deluxe or Wei Jiang Black Apple Thunder Leader which is probably the single best movie optimus I’ve ever seen
I actually *wouldn't* recommend the Star Convoy Gen selects version. It's very cheap retool in bot mode and his truck mode is doesn't even try. Also way to expensive, especially in comparison to the work done for the companion figure, Super Megatron.
If you want an alternative, get the Nemesis Prime version. The solid black is gorgeous on this figure.
