    Such an underrated machine! Puts Drumbrute and all the rest to shame. I bought a used EM1-X a few months ago (works perfect - no “jitter” issues) and I just need to dive in and learn it!
    I keep thinking I need a stand-alone drum machine, like a Drumbrute Impact or something similar, and the whole time I’ve had this amazing piece of equipment sitting here...
    Thank you for opening my eyes and ears to the possibilities of this incredible machine.
    Happy holidays!

    • @danieklerr
      @danieklerr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello.. It really is very useful. Also, sending the three synth parts to outputs 3/4 (or vice versa) gives you two machines in a single box. Also, check out my Shift+Pattern video. In it I use the ESX, but the trick works on the EMX as well. Thanks for watching!

    Just bought my second one , not planning on selling it this time. I can sequence my volca fm,deepmind 12,kawai k1 or other synths ,make 2-8 bars of melody and rhythm extremely fast, and even use it as an effects processor w audio in (can’t do that w the deepmind 12 unfortunately)so yeah definitely worth revisiting. Thanks for the tips

    • @danieklerr
      @danieklerr  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello.. I agree that as a monophonic sequencer it truly excels. You can sit with it alone on the couch and record pattern after pattern, then MIDI up your external gear and scroll through your patches until you find heat. Also, check out my video on Shift+Pattern.. It's with an ESX, but it works for the EMX as well, and will revolutionize your performances. Also.. Thanks for watching! :) Link: th-cam.com/video/bPV3VZZhTOI/w-d-xo.html

    Glad you pointed out one of the biggest issues with the encoder knob and how to fix it. HOWEVER! I’m also angry because now people know this and they aren’t selling for as cheap now when that’s the main problem. ;)

      Haha, thank you. Maybe the price has gone up, but actually it's kind of only getting back up to where it was in the early days, after a lull in value. The very first one I purchased, in April 2004, cost me almost $700! Thank you for watching. :)

    Best trick I know is setting up audio in on a synth and running the drums out your secondary outputs to the input. You lose a synth track, but open all kinds of doors for your percussion.

    I’ m on my 2nd EMX & i’m back to this video. Some real souvenirs here.
    The LFO & FX interact on the EMX & make something that you are not gonna find anywhere else . . . . . . this vid shows that beautifully.
    I just don’t get why you sold this EMX instead of keeping it.

    • @danieklerr
      @danieklerr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello.. Hey, thank you for the kind words! I enjoy working with the EMX, for sure, but I have so much gear, there are other pieces I go to for on-stage synth work. One of the main setbacks for me, regarding the EMX, is the sound of the tubes. I'd rather they left them off. Also, the ESX has a staggering amount of possibilities, so I've always preferred working with it instead of the EMX. Thank you for watching! :)
      PS.. This is a very powerful performance hack, and works for the EMX: th-cam.com/video/bPV3VZZhTOI/w-d-xo.html

      @@danieklerr when it comes to sampling, I favor the MPC line or the new E2 sampler.

    • @danieklerr
      @danieklerr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lbrown7164 .. Yes, I understand that. I bought and MPC Live and I also, to this day, have the most groundbreaking tutorials for the ES2. Still, the Live is more of a DAW-replacement and not a live-performance sampler, as there just isn't that much accessible control options. Also, the ES2 fails deeply compared to the ESX in many respects, and I've documented these shortcomings in many a video. Here are two of my comparison vids, and one video of me using the two of them together:

    just did the tube bypass mod on the emx1 and it’s given it new life. started to hate the hiss and tube distortion

    • @danieklerr
      @danieklerr  ปีที่แล้ว

      The bypass mod is a game changer. A friend and I started work on a false "tube" that screws into the existing sockets, but is actually a limiter/maximizer. You would still mix in the signal via TUBE GAIN, and the threshold and attack/release knobs will go where the current tube-window is. Thanks for watching!

    everytime i see people do stuff with the emx-1 it sounds so cool like this video - awesome! but when i see people using the new electribes, i never see creatively powerful stuff like this - but the specs on the "2"'s should be better right? you could basically do all of this same stuff no?

    • @danieklerr
      @danieklerr  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello.. The things I do in this video can certainly be done on the E2, but not all of the greatness of the EMX is found on the newer units. Still, some of the newer specs are better. For instance, you can have up to 16 synth parts, as you get to choose what a track does. I have a really great ES2 playlist on my channel, with some very unusual sounds and techniques. Thank you for watching!

    Jitter is indeed because of magnetic fields, unfortunatly tho, a paper or plastic shield doesnt affect magnetisism... Gonna look out for the ground points you talked about in the hope of fixing mine 100%

    I hate to say it but with a ding that size it probably took a pretty hard hit and that may have something to do with the Jitter problem that it has

    • @danieklerr
      @danieklerr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello.. You may be right about the hit, but the jitter is certainly from the two circuit boards being too close without a divider, and the proximity of the power supply unit. I've repaired a dozen of the E_X units now, and this one was sold to someone I know. It's still repaired to this day. Thank you for watching! :)

    i had the jitter for years with mine, and the trick with putting something between the boards didn't work.
    what did work was to re-seed the ribbon connections - i disconnected the ribbon and pushed it back in firmly - there was also a hard kink in the ribbon which i smoothed out a bit. never had the problem with jitter since!
