    A Priori appeals to me because in my experience learning toki pona so far, the words that sound similar to English actually kind of trip me up when they don't carry the exact meaning of the English word they sound like. For example it's hard to not think of "lukin" as "looking". With completely made-up words it's a little harder to learn vocabulary in the first place but the words can find their own unique spectrum of meaning in your mind without getting mixed up with words from other languages with a similar meaning spectrum. This makes everything beyond the beginner stage easier in my opinion. In my experience learning some Spanish, this is not an issue because most of the words that sound similar actually do hold the same meaning, with only minor differences if any. In my experience learning some Japanese, the words are so different-sounding that it helps with understanding the new concepts that those words are (they rarely hold the exact set of meanings on the meaning spectrum as any synonym you could pick for them from English). But the loan words in Japanese which sound like English end up confusing me sometimes because they don't always mean the same thing as the English word they came from.
    Looking forward to seeing how this auxlang goes!

    i like the idea of “a posteori” but with strong phonotactics / courage to deform words.
    i voted the minimal consonants but i would prefer 6 vowels (add schwa/strut)
    basically a Volapük type of thing.

    I discussed some of these same topics in my "which conlang" video and follow-up videos... but I'm wondering, who is this video for? I would hope that people who are interested in getting involved and voting would already know the pros and cons of a priori vs a posteriori languages.

    A number of years ago I briefly participated in a group effort to create an auxlang. Features were decided by vote. Before long the effort fell apart and disbanded because, for one thing, the group bogged down in minutiae of phonology and phonotactics before they ever really got anywhere. I have become skeptical of an auxlang being constructed by a commttee.

      But, what if going into it we're all skeptical of creating an auxlang by comity and accidentally create one despite ourselves?

    • @hedge931
      @hedge931 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That reminds me of similar situations I've seen which were the result of poor leadership. One person ultimately has to make the decision even after a vote, in order for progress to be made, since it's impossible to align with everyone's ideas at once. But if the leadership is willing to make the calls, it can be a great experience. Everyone will have to accept some form of compromise but that's true of any successful collaborative effort.

      @@Aronora you're skeptical of it's success because of the auxlang being created by committee. I'm saying since we are all going into it with that knowledge, we're all skeptical, so what if we succeed despite our skepticism.
