    Excellent tip! I often thought that I did not have my cardstock aligned correctly. Also the tip scoring on both sides of cardstock to prevent cracking is priceless. Thank you soooo much.

    Thank you for sharing this May May, I as many of the others in comments below thought that I was just doing something wrong lol. It's comforting to know that I am not the only one to experience BOTH of these issues! Again, thank you and GOD bless.

    I always make sure that I have got a longer layer on the top of the card as this makes it easier to open. So often you see people struggling to open a card when they are the same measurements. It is called a *leading edge* and I really like it. (I may be the only one, but that is fine with me!)

    Thank you. I struggle with that all the time. That tip should help. About the frayed edge at the fold, Gina K said, after you score fold backwards instead of forwards like we usually do. That works too. Thanks again.

    I don't have an issue with my cards having the gap, nor do I have an issue with SU card stock tearing when folded. But, I do have an issue with cards not wanting to lay flat, when I use the really heavy, nice card stocks. The tip of scoring on both sides of the card stock is great, I'll be using it from now on!

    Thank you!! As a relatively new cardmaker, this ALWAYS happened to me. I thought it was my scoreboard! Now, I see it's the "scoreboard operator" that's responsible!! Another commenter said she always cut that little edge off - me too!! Not any more!!

    I've always folded my cards so that the bump is on the inside and that's how I teach as well. But I have watched you push your card into the side of the scoreboard and force it to fold where you want it to, and I've been doing that for quite a while now. That's a great tip!

    I had that problem a couple of years ago and I used the stop to line up cardstock and then gently pressed down on the score line and the use the bone folder to get that nice crease.
    I love the idea of scoring on the backside of thick cardstock.

    I actually kinda liked the extra little bit hanging over the edge of the card, and made that longer edge the front of the card. It helped me to be able to open the card easier. BUT, if I do want both sides to be perfectly even, yours is a great tip! Thanks!

    These are great tips. Thanks! Also, I've found that some of my heavier cardstock isn't cut to exact size. For example, I have a pack of recollection 110lb that I use for bases. I noticed that it was coming out wonky on all the sides. After going through several sheets and making sure I was doing everything correctly, I got a ruler and started measuring. Between the top and the bottom, the width was off a 1/16th of an inch. And it makes a huge difference. So instead of using it just for coloring stamped images (cause it's really good for that), I'm still using it for bases and just trimming slivers as needed.

    When I saw the word "gap" in the title, I thought of Great Britain. In the subways, there is a strip in front of the track, that as the trains come in, a voice comes over the loudspeaker and tells everyone to "Mind the Gap." So, now I know we need to "mind the gap" with cards too. I wonder if G thought of the same thing. :-)

    • @MaymayMadeIt
      @MaymayMadeIt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I have always been backwards. I know it is a topic of discussion. But, in my opinion. When you press the fibers away from the score and fold this way you don’t have that bead in the card. I do not like to have the fold bead line inside the card. I find my cards don’t lay as flat as I like when I score that way. I have done my cards this way for years and many people tell me I’m doing it wrong but I just do things the way that works for me. It has never made sense to me to build the bulk inside the card. It doesn’t work when I double score but when I single fold it does. I’ll do a video on it to explain it. Hope that explains it!

    • @Marilynlovesebiking
      @Marilynlovesebiking 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@MaymayMadeIt I agree with you, Maymay. It makes sense to fold the card where the valley is inside and the bump on the outside. Looks much better.

    • @bethjeans3780
      @bethjeans3780 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes - mountain fold (the bump) inside, valley outside. It’s SOP. And for top-folding cards they may stand up more easily that way. But Maymay’s hint still works perfectly. : )

    • @denisebrunton5180
      @denisebrunton5180 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It also helps to stop cracking on the fold! I score and turn the card over to fold and have no problems. Found this trick on a few videos also.

    • @bethjeans3780
      @bethjeans3780 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Marilynlovesebiking Every instructor I’ve had, including pros in the field for decades, shop owners, etc., have taught mountain fold (bump) on the inside. It’s the industry standard, and cards have been done that way at gallery and museum shops I’ve visited where handmade cards are sold. I think that little bead - when done well - actually looks really neat. But there are no fold police so doing it the way that makes each person happy is fine.

  • @hoarderpapercrafts
    @hoarderpapercrafts 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That gap never bothered me. I feel it helps people open the card. I could be wrong, and that justifies not stressing about it, but I don’t think it matters. If someone were to point it out...”no cards for you!” Lol
